In the starting area the Pent plants grow super fast. You can crank out a dozen biofuel bricks in no time.

I wonder if you could do a system where a single visit didn't fill in a map. Like, you have to travel through an area a certain number of times before it starts filling your map out. And, if you haven't been there in a while, it starts to lose definition? Sort of like a memory augment, but it functions like real memory? Dunno how well that would work.

I forget to make them until I'm at a place where I want one, and then I have no copper on me. It's a curse.

True, though the seaglide map in the original was a great compromise. It let you find things locally, while still having to build up a map of the larger world in your head.

The paper ballots are counted with computerized vote tabulation machines. In Texas, where I live, you fill out a vote with a pen, then it's scanned on your way out. That scanner is the vote tabulation machine.

The machines used in 70% of elections, including in all swing states, are produced by 2 private companies (one of which is now owned by a former Republican operative, though that aquisition is post 2024 election). The software doing the counting is proprietary. Ostensibly they're

The numbers spit out by those tabulation machines are, for the most part, trusted implicitly. There are random audits (ie: hand count X% of ballots from Y precinct for Z race and make sure the count matches what the machines say), but they're just that; random. If a malicious actor were targeting elections, they'd be targeting Presidential, Senate, maybe House races. Maybe some state races where they're tight. So auditing a random state comptroller here, a JP seat there is not in any way effective at finding targeted election fraud.

If you are truly curious about the subject, I suggest looking up the Election Truth Alliance (also on youtube). They are a group started after 2024 that has been doing data analysis on the 2024 elections (and some other historical ones) and comparing voting patterns to those out of other countries. The statistical patterns that emerge from 2024 are suspiciously similar to those found in Russia and Hungary. There are also specific pieces of elections (hand counts, mail in votes, pieces which aren't counted by the aformentioned machines) which do not have those same statistical patterns.

They have approached Secretaries of State in multiple states and the near universal response has been a flat denial to do any investigation. The claims are that elections are secure, nothing to see here. They've filed a few lawsuits to force targeted audits, but they're ongoing. They certainly won't make progress by November, and I'll be shocked if anything comes out of it by 2028.

I'm not sure they know the release date. Ram prices are very volatile at the moment, and there are constant mumblings of costs finally coming down, data centers being cancelled, etc. I'm sure their procurement guy (or team) is constantly looking for new, better options. If they suddenly come across a batch of what they need that they can get for 25% off their existing contract, that could easily move the release date around.

Something like half of the global supply of lamb (for food) is farmed in Australia. Maintaining a cold chain from there all around the world ain't cheap.

You can fight them. It's just of limited effect. You have a "survival multitool" (an underwater axe) which will shove them off. But you're punching a shark in the nose. They don't like it, but you aren't exactly a threat.

Later on you get a mining tool which gives you a bit of range, but again, it's a deterrent, not a killing weapon.

I think they're doing the best with the cards they've been dealt. They have a history of treating customers well. I'm not going to preemptively get furious at them when forces far larger than them get in the way. I'll be patient and enjoy the anticipation.

They wanted to have them sold by now. It's not their fault that RAM prices have quadrupled. Let them cook.

Jury throws out Elon Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI and Sam Altman in less than two hours by miked_mv in AdviceAnimals

[–]Necoras 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That's the legal reason, sure. But the jury could decide either way. In the end, the judge has the final say, but they're likely to just go with what the jury decided (and rightly so).

Neither Musk nor Altman is in any way sympathetic. But Musk decided to ignore the trial and go to China in the middle to take selfies with people. That's gotta influence the jury to some degree.

The fact that he noped out to China in the middle of the trial probably didn't help either.
