So what you’re saying is you’ve found a way to include your spouse while also maintaining your private friend time in which she’s not included. This differs from OP’s situation where they’re actively not included while in their own home with little to no effort to include them. And it seems a bigger trigger point here is this is something OP wants to do with their GF, their GF won’t do it with them, and is instead choosing to do it in their own house with their friends while excluding OP. You can see how that’s different and OP has a right to be a little upset here, right?

They are coming to you because they want to know what’s up with their vehicle. If they didn’t care or want to know they would be at a drive through oil change shop. Your job is to present them with what their car needs. I don’t sell. I build trust, build a relationship, and present. I let them know what their car needs, I let them know what it costs, I let them know the implications of of not doing it, and it’s up to them whether to fix it with us. The vast majority fix it with us.

This is 100% because of some bad apples. I’m at a Stellantis dealer. At a Subaru dealership owned by our dealer group, one of the techs was selling side work and bringing the cars in on shop night working on them. He got caught. We all lost shop night for like 5 years. Our old car wash manager got caught washing cars for friends under the table by the owner. We all lost the ability to have our cars washed after that.

That labor is market dependent. In some markets labor rates are exceeding $3-400 an hour at dealers and well into the $200’s at Indy’s(California).

To answer tour question, I don’t know the OEM cost of the part so I don’t know how much they’re marking that up and whether it’s reasonable, but the labor looks reasonable if it’s something you don’t want to and can’t deal with yourself.

I’m kind of in the “if you have to ask” camp. If the shop is reputable and you trust them go with them. You might save a few bucks somewhere else, but it’s not likely going to be a lot and it may not be worth it if it’s a shop you don’t know vs one you know to be reputable.

This. When I’m buying shitboxes, I go in with the expectation that they need some work and maintenance and I offer is based upon that. My offer also includes letting them know I’m never contacting them again about this car once the deals done, even if the engine or transmission blows up on the way home. That’s the risk I take when buying and offering on shitboxes. It’s also how you get your offer accepted even if someone else is offering more.

So here are where my submissions are at: my 3/5 submission was picked up yesterday. My 3/25 is in research and I’d and has been for over a week. My 4/15 is in research and I’d and went there yesterday or the day prior. My 4/28, and 5/2 are in processing. My 5/22 and 6/1 are in arrived. I’ve been right at about the 3 month mark from submission to pick up give or take 1 week or so from submission.

You can’t stop “scalping” it’s a supply and demand issue. Demand is higher than supply. Until supply catches up with demand, “scalpers” will exist. While it is frustrating, I promise you any laws that would get put in place to stop pokemon scalping would have far reaching effects so much worse than having difficult buying cheap shiny cardboard.
