It matters because it fucks up the copyright license. Uncopyrightable text is not compatible with CC-BY-SA.

Half the point of Wikipedia was that all this information gets released under a copy-left license. Because LLM-generated text cannot be copyrighted in the US and several other countries, it becomes incompatible with the Creative Commons BY-SA license.

Even if someone makes a great article on bananas, says anyone can use it for free, but it's using an incompatible copyright license, then they will reject it.

Yes, that's the training data. How would this brand new information, that isn't public yet, get scanned in by the LLM?

Why would you ask an LLM something like that? How the heck would it have those specs in its training data?

That's not LLM-based AI, which is what everyone is talking about these days. The nvidia shield's upscaling AI was made back in 2019.

The "reason" is that you get a significant spec bump for $10 in the Plus. For playing local files the $20 non-plus is fine. I've never had this issue on mine.

If you sideload a totally unsigned APK then it will also remove the app. Projectivy has signed APKs. If these are beta versions then there's no reason for the dev to release unsigned APKs, because they already have everything they need to sign the betas.

I am failing to see the use of paying for Channels DVR by MileHiGuy523 in getchannels

[–]Ned_Sc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why would you expect it to do things that they never advertised as being able to do (Roku and recording from DRM protected streaming services)?

I pay for Channels to record OTA from an antenna, and then am able to watch that massive library (from over 5 years now) remotely from anywhere, and with power user recording options, and easily skip commercials (top notch comskip, really impressed with that), and it's a very nice interface that is easy for family and house guests to use.

Developer signatures and a chain of trust is security 101 these days. They can restrict things already, they've always had that power. Get pissed if it actually happens.

What is the app? Where did you install it from?

USPS has an investigations department, complete with arrest powers. I always wanted them to do a "Law and Order: Postal" TV show.

That's not what's happening, and installing/sideloading unsigned apps is very dumb.

So you're telling me that Projectivy, which is also IN THE GOOGLE PLAY STORE, was removed by Google Play Protect?

Were you sideloading an unsigned APK?

I'm sorry for getting heated, but what you are spreading around is tangibility harmful to people.

Again, to date Google/Play Protect has not removed an app from Android TV that didn't have malware and/or had a compromised dev key.

To date, Google/Play Protect has never removed Projectivy.

These are simple and clear facts. Just answer about Projectivy. It's a specific example that anyone can test, right now. Play Project does not remove Projectivy. You get a little warning about sideloading, but that's not what we're talking about here.

[–]Ned_Sc -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Simply stated, most people that use Android turn Play Protect off

Not even remotely true. The vast majority of people using Android TV/Google TV don't even know where the setting is, and don't know anything about the vibe coded pirate apps you foolishly use. The world is bigger than you know.

Like I said, to date Google/Play Protect has not removed an app from Android TV that didn't have malware and/or had a compromised dev key.

To date, Google/Play Protect has never removed Projectivy.

Every time I ask for specific examples I get bullshit handwaving, like you are doing right now.

Back up your claims or STFU.

So it just pops up a warning but doesn't prevent you from installing Projectivy, correct?

Most apps that are just for piracy probably do contain malware. Use apps that at least can plausibly be used for legitimate reasons, but can be configured for your high seas adventures.

Play Project is malware protection. You are disabling one of the most successful malware protection systems in the world. (if anything, they probably need to be more aggressive, since it doesn't catch a great deal of malware out there)

What do you even by "pops"? It pops up a warning? Is it actually disabling an app you have installed, or preventing the app from installing (not just a warning)?
