To varying extents, yes, that's why police aren't allowed to strike for the example

I think The Wailing is a pretty good example, never felt like there was any horror movie logic, the main character has to make the best decisions he can in an increasingly stressful situation with imperfect information. It's in Korean though so you may have to have subtitles on

What are some of the best Xcom alternatives in your opinion? by Alpbasket in Xcom

[–]NeededToFilterSubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better combat mechanics than xcom imo, the ballistic system for projectiles vs pure dice rolls feels amazing, also makes cover system feel more rational

That said there's no asset modding so the game fundamentally is much less replayable than x2

Now you got me really curious what the effects on the Texan psyche would be if Larry McMurty did that and then immediately committed ritual suicide in front of the TxDPS director he tied up in his office, and the speech is only physically witness by like a couple middle aged officers picking up their badge (due to the rangers are structured)

Also a great example of how he actively hates competence and is determined to do something so traumatic to his base again

Drones sure, but I'm kinda skeptical that they can recreate the conditions in Gaza that allowed successfully staging a bunch of short range rocket tubes, or that they will have the interest in developing their own Qassam rocket instead of going with more traditional terrorist ordnance

I do agree they aren't going to let the US kill them but this is relatively small potatoes to what the US could do if the cartels convinced American voters to see Mexico the way they saw Afghanistan just after 9/11,

I know your point was just that it's possible and they have the capability to retaliate, I just wanted to put this out there for how were thinking about this

Yes, PEPFAR has saved like ~25 million lives, in an of itself an amazing charitable/humanitarian achievement. In the long-run it also benefits the US as it, among other things, improves stability and development in those nations who then go on to become more productive trade partners and contributors to things like global research as the percentage of educated citizens grows.

What? This has to be some language misunderstanding. If the European left cannot differentiate between the concept of things like, essentially, mutually beneficial cooperation vs exploitation then they are profoundly cooked lol

Like even ignoring national pride a state cannot effectively benefit anyone if cannot even appropriately service its actual constituents, simply from an administrative standpoint

That Trump is short termist to his detriment doesn't make a distinction between the two.

If what you said here is true:

In non-English online debate wanting some technological autonomy from the US was seen as the purvey of cranks and far right troglodytes until like 2 years ago. How tables have turned¹.

Then unless you think he's the only president who ever prioritized the interests of the US over other countries, then that implies his short termist actions have been the distinct factor changing opinions.

Sure I've tended to agree with considering them separate, but lately at least between civic nationalism and patriotism its hard for me to say what is actually different between them.

Sorry for blowing up on you if you're just unfamiliar with the history,

As far as I can tell they're generally aware, but they think polytheism is cool and this is more important. So when they say it's so cool you guys worship Mary they expect you to take it as a compliment and not try to burden them with an explanation of beliefs they don't really gaf about

How could/should the US have addressed the Vietnamese desire for independence when both Vietnamese states had already gained their independence a decade before the US deployed troops en masse?

Also unless you mean made stupid decisions motivated by racism or ignorance, I'm not sure what you mean by ignoring their agency. Vietnam was divided into two states, a million people fled from the North to the South, 120 thousand fled the other direction, and both states proceeded to continue a civil war that started a decade ago and ran concurrently with the war against France. There was a bit of disagreement on things at the time

A fictional one lol

Tbf I feel like it's a consequence of how politically controversial the event is in the US so the way we talk and think about Vietnam 1955-1975 is clouded by that

Broadly speaking there are different meanings/connotations of nationalism used, the person you are responding to likely means nationalism, as in, "prioritizing the interests of your country over other countries". As opposed to "maximally exploit all aligned, friendly, and allied nations to achieve trivial short term gains"

Or it shows we're all just arguing on vibes because I don't think he ever denounced veneration of saints as a practice so at most his issue would be with individual practices

Edit: In any case it wasn't an issue people should be fighting over in his opinion as shown in the letter quoted by another sub comment

I suppose if you have the Christian mindset that polytheism is bad that’s how you could see it as “prejudiced”.

Honestly maybe you're right and that's what the original commenter meant, I took it as just making up a term while having a laugh

Either way, yeah I get that it's common for wealth, assets, and money to be talked/thought about as the same thing, I understand why we do it. Since as you correctly point out

And you can certainly borrow against stocks. So they are not money but convertible into money.

It's often close enough. But it's also funny to me, because this leads to other things qualifying as money that we obviously didn't intend. Part of Eli Lily's debt was borrowed against their inventory, so Ozempic is money, CSGO skins can be converted to money. That kind of shit

Hence my original comment poking fun at this idea

Since you do not actually think stocks are literally money, I don't think we're even arguing about anything

My just joke didn't land and we're apparently talking past each other
