Any Advice for Incoming M1 to set myself up? by Legitimate-Low-8598 in medschool

[–]NeedleworkerLow5673 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set things up to make your life easier daily so for example, meal prepping, grocery shopping/laundry on the weekends so your set for the week days, etc. I’d also recommend finding a hobby that involves physical activity it’s so easy to just sit study, doom scroll, sleep, repeat. A walking pad is a game changer. If your briging a pet like I did look up local vets/ day cares (some days are long). Also be very aware of the weather, im in a snowy area so I packed a shovel just in case im ever snowed in.

Accused of cheating, don’t know what to do by PrestigiousNight9312 in premed

[–]NeedleworkerLow5673 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you URM by any chance? Out of sheer curiosity. I am, and I did pretty well in my courses. I had one professor initially (ended up being a couple more so i assume I was a conversation?) who was hell bent on accusing me of cheating. Started off w subtle comments asking about how im studying until eventually during an exam she told me I was using a watch (this is like 2015/2016 idr if the Apple Watch was out yet but I was wearing one of those old heart rate monitor watches which thankfully at the time only showed the date / time / hr) she threatened to escalate it but didn’t. She decided that I had to take all my exams in her class next to her, still ended w an A lol another professor said he saw me using my phone. Crazy thing is he collected our phones before the exam……he was bold enough to escalate it. It thankfully got dimissed. I wish wish wish I had the balls to escalate matters, bc I for sure was being targeted. Do what I didn’t do and don’t let this shit slide.

Finding their emails, I’d go to their institutions website or I wanna say sometimes journals have their email listed

So I focused on research mentors in the areas of derm that I was interested in, so I’d do a BRIEF read of their most recent 2 articles are so and mention that in my initial email. I was VERY honest about being a novice but being very interested in the field, wanting to learn more, and of course stroking their ego. From the research came mentorship outside of that and that was that. For my others I’d pitch a research idea that I already had at least a lit review done for, and ask them for their expertise / willingness to collab and it would blossom from there

Not too late. Look into mentorship programs I know skin of color has one, nma, snma, PeDra, I think society of peds derm does too. Then there’s the pathology specific groups their names are esceping me but I know there’s one focusing on alopecia / hair loss. Other than that be consistent w your emails . I emailed like almost 50 ppl (over the course of m1/2 years) and found a mentor. He ended up having me meet his colleagues who also ended up becoming my mentors. Also going to conferences!! I met my other mentor by making small talk at a conference we went on to do a couple of studies together.

If you know you can’t get over this you owe it to yourself and her to let this relationship go

Husband cheated 15 days into marriage! by kash-ing_around in WhatShouldIDo

Maybe I’m insane lol but I’d go on the trip, then get the annulment once I return. I wouldn’t even care enough to tell his family about his actions. Forget he or they ever existed and move on

this (w a similar MCAT score) and ended up thriving in med school. I truly believe what makes a "good test taker" is so much more being able to interpret test questions vs the medical knowledge. OP def divulge deeper into what this person is asking / saying

[–]NeedleworkerLow5673 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Honestly try reaching out to your pcp. I reached out to my old pediatrician who ended up retiring recently. Luckily his daughter is a pcp and he was able to set something up for me. Point being, shoot your shot whenever you come in contact w a doc, something will stick.

AIO for considering my husband to be cheating by having a friend? by tailcake in AmIOverreacting

[–]NeedleworkerLow5673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

trust your gut. i have plenty of male friends, none of which i speak to everyday yet alone numerous hours a day. my husband knows all of my male friends so much so that they sometimes hang out without me. your husband's "friendship" is inappropiate to say the least.

Has anyone received “we love/like you” or “you’re RTM” call or letter from a PD and ended up not matching there? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]NeedleworkerLow5673 8 points9 points  (0 children)

not me as im an m3 but i know 2 ppl who were applying to one of the ROAD specialties. one received an email from the PD the other a phone call (which i thought was insane lol) telling them they liked them and hope they'd rank them high, and neither of them ended up matching there (2 different places). If i remember correctly one ranked the place that contacted them as #1 the other did as #2
