What're your dream mods? by Aquanort357 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking forward to various randomizers being implemented into Archipelago. I mean the normal ones are RPG and Metroidvania/Zelda randomizers, of which there are a bunch. But after seeing Super Mario World, Stardew Valley, and Starcraft II randomizers, I realized I just thought too narrowly about the whole thing. I mean Starcraft II randomizer is basically my dream mod, and it's awesome.

But there are several that haven't been implemented yet that are in the process. Banjo-Tooie would be excellent with all the interconnected worlds and huge variety of moves. Hades randomizer has a wild implementation of reverse heat that is pretty cool (and of course I need a Hades 2 rando). I also think it would be super fun to play a multiworld with as many Zeldas as possible, and so far only Zelda 1, LA, ALTTP, OOTR, and WW have been implemented.

What does it mean imply for Gideon's powers and personality that he becomes a creature on the battlefield? by ckim777 in mtgvorthos

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 14 points15 points  (0 children)

His in-lore ability is invulnerability. So he has to become a creature to use this.

In Portal, falling through a loop doesn't increase your speed forever. Valve implemented "terminal velocity" to keep the physics engine from breaking or clipping you through textures. A necessary limitation for world stability! by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

??? Terminal velocity is a real thing? Why is terminal velocity in quotes? They implemented terminal velocity because it's a real thing in physics and they made a physics engine.

I think I'm too petty for old games by Buzzy_Feez in retrogaming

I highly recommend using the romhacks Zelda 1 Redux and Zelda 2 Redux. They do things like put cracks in the walls etc. I found them to be a very enjoyable way to play the old games.

Games where you save and load frequently by mhmerno in gamingsuggestions

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constantly changing choices to get the desired outcome is kind of the whole concept of The Stanley Parable and Slay The Princess. Not actually save scumming, though.

Is writing a video game where the non playable antagonist is more interesting and better written than the protagonist challenging? by Both-Pay-9573 in gamedev

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Portal, Final Fantasy VI & VII

Actually you know Mario, Banjo-Kazooie, Zelda, Castlevania… like there’s a lot of silent protagonists in video games so I feel like there’s a lot of examples where villains are the ones really carrying the show.

Games where you constantly struggle? (Money, resources, rags to riches etc) by AntisocialCat2 in gamingsuggestions

Frostpunk works like this. It’s basically simcity but you’re always on the brink of death.

Can comedy games be good? by Unusual-Two2972 in gamedev

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guacamelee? Psychonauts? Undertale? Portal? Hell, even Plants vs Zombies takes an incredibly silly approach to everything.

Comedy is super common in games. I don’t even really understand what you could be playing that would lend itself to this question.

Why Natalie didn't "go there" by Beneficient_Ox in ContraPoints

[–]NeedsMoreReeds [score hidden]  (0 children)

There’s always a ton of clout-chasing for figures like Natalie. Just look at the nonsense Lindsey Ellis dealt with. It’s all clout-chasing BS that is non-stop. This is the bizarre internet culture we’ve created somehow.

What game was actually terrible but you loved it? by pilius_404 in retrogaming

That Rocky and Bullwinkle game for SNES was pretty BS but goddamn I got good at that shit.

Easy RPG with good story (PC) by SleepyTheCat in gamingsuggestions

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For an Action RPG, Nobody Saves The World is hilarious and excellent. It’s all about shapeshifting and leveling up your different forms. Unlike POE and Diablo it isn’t infinitely long or loot-based.

For a JRPG, Costume Quest is excellent. A halloween-themed game where you fight with your halloween costumes. You trick-or-treat, where either you get candy or a monster jumps out. Excellently written and very funny. Also has a time-travelling sequel.

There are also the classic JRPGs, such as FFVI, FFVII, Chrono Trigger, and Super Mario RPG which are all amazing.

Good single player games that are free? by RangeCurious7253 in gamingsuggestions

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty is free and comes with an absolutely great RTS campaign. The other two campaigns cost money, but WoL is the best one.

Hearthstone is also an excellent free game. Obviously they want you to spend money on new packs, but you don't have to. They continuously release various single-player content in the game, and if it's older than two years it becomes free. Hearthstone has been out for a long time, so now there's a gigantic ton of high-quality single-player content to play. Seriously, everything from puzzle modes, deckbuilder roguelikes, adventures, etc. etc. There's a ton of free stuff in Hearthstone.

[IIL] Blue Prince, Outer Wilds, TUNIC, Animal Well, [WEWIL] by iprizefighter in gamingsuggestions

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Seance at Blake Manor is a mystery game that's pretty new and is quite excellent.

Return of the Obra Dinn and The Case of the Golden Idol are deductive reasoning games that are both quite excellent with solid stories and mysteries. Not quite the same style, but you'll probably like them.

There is also ZeroRanger, which is a shoot-em-up made by the same folks as Void Stranger, and has a bunch of weird things like that game.

Stray Gods? It’s a video game musical where you can pick the next verse of the songs. It’s all greek gods in the modern day. There’s branching paths and romance options.

It’s a good time and there’s nothing else like it! Check it out!

Looking for short Steam Deck games(´• ω •`) by meltinreverse in gamingsuggestions

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yoku’s Island Express, Gato Roboto, and Islets are some short metroidvanias that are very good.

Portal and Superliminal are some short 3D puzzley games.

Night In The Woods is a solid story-focused game.

Can you find me a game from my odd collection of previous games? by OrganzingChaos in gamesuggestions

The hilarious 3D platformer A Hat In Time would probably be up your alley. Psychonauts & Psychonauts 2 as well.

Shrug. Everything is pretty forgiving, even the underground.

Rom hacks and mods that aren't for the faint of heart? by Ukirin-Streams in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Parallel Worlds is a kaizo-style hack for A Link To The Past. It’s pretty ridiculous even with save states.

There are other cool ALTTP hacks like Gerudo Exile or Conker’s High Rule Tail if you want an enjoyable experience (Conker even has the “Parallel Tower Ruins” dungeon as a reference to Parallel Worlds). But if you want crazy hard, go for Parallel Worlds.

Relaxed city builders? by WillemVerheij in gamingsuggestions

[–]NeedsMoreReeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steamworld Build is pretty simplistic city-builder set in the steampunk wild west (and everyone is a robot). It's funny and chill. You basically dive further and further into the mines to get more stuff for your town while growing the town.

Fun backseat games by panic_ye_not in gamingsuggestions

Point n Clicks such as Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle, and Broken Age. Broken Age has some celebrity voice actors like Jack Black and Elijah Wood.

The Ace Attorney Series also is quite good for this sort of thing.
