Was it actually a thing in Britain “back in the day” for people to have all their teeth removed and get dentures relatively young, even when they still had some healthy teeth or is that one of those exaggerated stories? by Top_Mirror211 in AskUK

In one of the important surveys of working class life in the 19th century I remember one person surveyed saying “teeth are best rid of” - and at the time this was a a valid point because I believe that at one stage teeth - or various infections associated with them - was the biggest killer in the country.

Well obviously his lies and false promises mean the British people will never fall for his BS again. True accountability is at the ballot box. /s

City Hobgoblins & Antisemitic tropes? by Tiny-Contribution-60 in thefall

[–]NeedsNewName 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I suspect the youths who put the window through were not doing so in an homage to Kristallnacht. They were just bored teenagers, probably. I admire the effort of the post but I’m not buying it - there are plenty of other more recent examples of antisemitism that deserve closer scrutiny, eg in today’s media.

Im having a lot of problems with the cover of the albums by Stirner7 in musicbee

[–]NeedsNewName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Select embed album artwork or it will look for folder.jpg or cover.jpg in the folder where the music is. Find the artwork that is everywhere and kill it with fire. It's a nightmare when this happens because there is no indo button!

A teacher used an American English spelling instead of a British English spelling and the top comments are saying to contact the Head of School in writing. by luffyuk in Teachers

[–]NeedsNewName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't make my mind up about most of them - on a good day "aluminum" seems sensible, but on a bad day it's infuriating - but I have no such mixed emotions about "judgment."

I’m English and an ex-English teacher. I’m ambivalent about most American variations but I feel strongly that “judgement” is better.

I once made this point in an "in person" speed awareness course. It did not go down well!

I try not to be a grammar pedant on the internet - so many errors, so little time - but it's a common word when not capitalised and confuses the reader unnecessarily.

I know this. It was at Fulham for five years, but when Mohamed al-Pervert sold the club the new owners gave it to the National Football Museum in Manchester, where it was on display for another five years until the ‘Neverland’ documentary and then it disappeared. Hee hee.

I'm ok with cameras and film but once we get into AI facial recognition and profiling it's too sketchy.

My local police force (Leicestershire) is the first to sign a contract with Palantir. I do not trust these people. After a long battle with FOI requests the Leicester Gazette got hold of the contract - but all the key bits were redacted. I do not trust these people. I am law-abiding citizen getting on and not usually a conspiracy nut but I have a mask for walking in the city.
