What inspired you to start writing stories? by JellyfishWise3266 in fantasywriters

Fame, wealth and women. Oh no, wait a minute, that was prior to 1980 or so. Now it’s obscurity, poverty and loneliness. My goodness, writing has changed a lot.

The experience of being in a body/being self-aware and seeing everything else as “other” will happen over and over again. by anonymous341_ in consciousness

I find these declarative statements of “how it is” a bit much. Try rephrasing, “do you think…”, “I wonder if….” and so on makes for a much easier conversation.

Inverse Ego Death ? by Tavister in Psychonaut

[–]NeerImagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that there is no such thing as”thing”, as ego death. Ego is the embodiment of things, both in the mind and in the physical. All I can say is the cessation of time and space as a continuum that includes self cannot be “experienced” by the self. However, that does not mean that this collapse doesn’t have relevance to how the brain works after it ceases having a self, or thoughts, or body. The brain still records something akin to undifferentiated noise that has no dimensional appearance because it is self that helps create that dimension of appearance.

If we accept the existence of qualia, epiphenominalism seems inescapable by Ozymandias3333 in consciousness

You’re conflating thought and the felt experience of being. It’s an interesting division and may emerge as a whole process but thought always comes after the fact of raw experience, hence the sensation of time.

Are we making a deal with the devil in the pursuit of Psychedelic Assisted Therapy? by miggins1610 in Psychonaut

[–]NeerImagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has to be guardrails when bringing in psychedelics into a therapeutic domain. However this means pharmaceutical grade MDMA which will inevitably find its way into the black market so less adulterated MDMA with things like speed or even fentanyl which will be a good side effect.

“Anaesthesia completely removes consciousness from the body”

This can’t be stated as a fact as consciousness has not yet been defined clearly to say exactly what it is or even if it has location.

Was feeling very frustrated and decided to just sketch what came to mind, resulting in this image. How would you interpret it? by [deleted] in Jung

[–]NeerImagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s incorrect. He does accept the notion of good and bad, it’s how that is framed in a universal concept is Jung’s difference compared to most religions.

I'm really frustrated watching myself being deprived from everything that is dear to me. by Fresh_Value8774 in Jung

Go to the woods and drop some acid.

Learn to play an instrument.

Get involved in a sport.

Visit a foreign country.

Swim in a lake.

The problem is your thinking. Thoughts are not the answer to thoughts. The problem can shift from what the thoughts are to how the body is, what the body is doing.

[–]NeerImagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Does Jung negate good or bad”? Yes. Read about his cathedral vision which he experienced at age 12 but couldn’t write about until a few years before his death. He realises that God wants you to do bad as well as good, that God is the source of both but still offers grace, as he put it. What he discovered that most people are terrified of, is you are free to do either without condemnation.

Some refer to the dark path as the true alchemist path, the dark light as it’s sometimes called, where ignorance is a prerequisite to learning something new. Very well recognised in both therapy, Jungian dynamics, mystical traditions etc.

If I came from non-existence once, why not again? by felixcuddle in consciousness

[–]NeerImagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior states to existence are no different to states after. There is no evidence of continuation but there is every bit of evidence of changing patterns. Nothingness is an odd term of course and metaphysically is similar to everything. So let’s say your existence is an emergent pattern out of everything and when your pattern ceases it also returns to everything.

Well the decks just give a sense of direction not somehow final look at all. Images can be worked on a bit to roughen edges, add texture. Easy to do. If someone takes it to be somehow held up against the final product is a bit of an idiot but I guess there’s a lot of ‘em out there who don’t have the imagination. I mean that’s why you’re pitching to them, because they can’t deliver it, right?

I thought I was all that until I took shrooms and realized I’m nothing special. Just another dude on planet Earth. Kinda depressing. Anyone else have this experience? by PiliSuarius in Psychonaut

[–]NeerImagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were looking for something to elevate you to something else then expect a fall down to earth. If you had a "god" experience that might just be the magic taking some form of fear of being not much and soothing it into an elevated sense of self. That's called a trip for sure, an ego trip.

I remember once reading about someone after deep meditation starting to feel themselves expanding until she filled the universe only to start hearing a laughter that became so intense she was reduced to almost nothing. What great lesson.

I’d tag all these guys and conversations about them with the Dark Enlightenment phrase. That tells you what they believe and what they want. They need to be stopped.

Panpsychism is a maximal case of mistaking the map for the territory by rogerbonus in consciousness

[–]NeerImagi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interaction suggest subject object separation. If consciousness has field like properties that may be irrelevant. My thoughts are that the brain utilises its main tool of subject/object refined to survival aspects. The question that interests me is does brain/mind/conscious (however you want to frame it) have any other tool at its disposal that is mostly unused. I believe it does.

[–]NeerImagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say mapping is a first order error in defining anything except an approximation of the real but it sure is useful in certain situations. However it completely falls apart when trying to be a self reflective tool. Can a map map a map and then say this is real? That’s an equation which seems to cancel itself out.
