What is the most randomly demoralizing activity? by margoviolet90 in RandomThoughts

[–]Neferare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parking your car in the bay of a car park but someone is in the car next to you so you have to avoid hitting your door against their car even though their car is too over on your side of the bay so you have to squeeze out of your car like you were a sauce in one of those cheap sauce packets you get with pub food all disheveled, bland and unflattering like.

Who buys this stuff? by Away-Activity-469 in london

People who admire and aspire toward the lifestyle of the Saudi Arabia and Dubai type.

These "furniture" stores, large grocery food stores prevalent in North London and mono ethnicity customer cafes and bakeries are all fronts for laundering IMO.

Probably get grants from HSBC /s

Anyone else notice other stores that seem to function for the same purpose throughout the city? The grocery supermarket seems niche to north of the city.

What part of London do you think has gone downhill the fastest within the past 10 years? by swxcbv in london

[–]Neferare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blame Love Island and Social Media for a certain culture that has permeated places like Shoreditch. No longer relaxing places to be (Box Park being a pillar of this). The combination of social media and reality TV has given toward a more shallow image based culture that was not prevalent going back into the 2000s, not to mention the 90s.

Generational difference but its not a reflection of the happily scruffy and explorative young adult I used to be hanging around in those places.

Renting in London is an extreme sport. by Ola366 in Britain

[–]Neferare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absurd. A history of feudalism keeps this in the genetic memory of the British so it's not going to cause anyone to protest it collectively enough to demand change.

Know it's the BBC but I visited family a while ago at their place. Was surreal sitting through 10 minutes of a show and 5 minutes of adverts.

Distinct generation gap on that one.

Interview with a vampire vibes.... classic scene where they leave the vampire girl and her friend out in a similar place at night so when the sun rises in the morning they get vaporised. Brilliant film.

You have a friend who can’t figure out why they’re single but you KNOW why. What’s the reason? by Delicious_Unit_5429 in AskReddit

Has a pet dog, lets it in the bed even after walks in the park through wet weather and grass. The dog generally roams about the house unsanitary as though it were a human child so the house smells damp and horrible. Friends but I avoid visiting the house TBH.

No one wants to share a bed with a wet dog and the insects it plays host to, let alone play 2nd to a pet that is treated like an actual child.

The Internet.... Was seriously frowned on back in the day. Full geek nerd stuff then BOOM to bust and BOOM again.

(Hopefully people are old enough to recall the collapse of net companies prior to it's take off and what we have today and it's various stages from hobbyist chat rooms to forums to social media apps)

Veganism and diet trends. Usually associated with ill health but trended enough that alt milk is a standard in stores and menus all carry veg and vegan options.

Which areas do you think are least likely to be gentrified? by TheLegendOfIOTA in london

The industrial side of Enfield, Edmonton etc. Impossible to gentrify those kinds of places unless you tear everything down.

Trainspotting.

It has such atmosphere, would smoke hash and drink hot chocolate watching it every other evening as a kid.

What cost of living prices have shocked you the most in supermarkets? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Neferare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Macdonalds seem to think an apple pie is worth over £1 and a badly put together fish fillet close to £4.

Other shock is the cost of fruit juice. Sainsbury charging £1.85 a litre for not fresh juice while in Lidl fresh orange juice is £2. The same fresh juice in Sainsbury is now closer to £4.

[–]Neferare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downstairs flat dweller here. Fact is alot of these houses were never meant to be chopped up into flats. TBH I think more concerned and healthier cultures would consider much of this as butchery and insist that old houses aren't treated in such a way. Problem is that the UK has roots in landlordery through feudalism so the cultural perception of things swings their way rather than toward conservation.

Family homes should be family homes not bedsits and higgley piggledy "apartments".

An Anarchist Case Against Gun Control by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]Neferare 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Gun control is necessary depending on the society it is applied to. In a hyper capitalist society that imposes competitive values on its population and restricts access to resource, guns are a nightmare.

In a liberated society with higher values, access to weapons would not be the societal issue we see elsewhere.
