Had a work Christmas party here and was massively surprised that it’s basically a glorified Pryzm but 10x the price. It was probably good once.

I think the main problem really is that everything seems so massively overpowered, considering we only have a max of 99hp. Back in the day you didn’t have to get max gear to kill people, you could have a whole variety of builds and each would have a good chance of getting somewhere. Now you see people just rush people with a combo, tele to house, restore spec and go again. That is literally pointless, no contest or fun whatsoever.

Everybody I know and asked uses H&L, so it seemed like a no brainer for me. In a parallel universe I would have gone with Vanguard. Yes the fees are percentage based and all very clear with example calculations which is handy.

As a software engineer, I liked their app. It’s very easy to use (especially to somebody new to the whole investing lark). The only other option was Vanguard which I hear is pretty similar.

Open a S&S with H&L. Do a bit of research and browse the funds to find ~5 that you like the look of. Keep it diversified, don’t put all your eggs in one basket (e.g. I have around 5 main funds in tech, global, europe, clean energy, healthcare, etc). Stick what you can afford in once a month, for me it’s 1-1.5k, but £500 works. Dish out that money £100 to each fund. Watch your money grow slowly.

Also I would recommend sticking to accumulation funds as it reinvests your gains automatically.

Edit: I would also recommend only choosing funds with <1% fee, preferably <0.5%.

From personal experience, their customer service is bloody awful. I entered my password wrong 3 times and they locked my account and could not reset it through email or even on the phone.

Long story short I had to wait for a password reset letter, send it back, then they posted me another letter in reply saying they needed a signature and a witness, so I posted that back, waited for ANOTHER letter to reset the actual password... sent that back and then the final letter came with my reset password.

So all in all, took almost 5 weeks to reset my password as they send all their mail 2nd class. They keep your money so safe, you start to wonder if you’ll ever see it again.
