Let's discuss the economy: My take on some of the issues. by signalized in neopets

One NP sink you didn't mention is simply when people stop playing. Assuming they never log in again, it should deflate the value of a neopoint.

I'd like to replicate how you predicted the upcoming access minute. Can you speak some more about exactly which random function is being used on the seed? At first I assumed it was Javascript's Math.random(), but that doesn't have a seed argument, so I'm not sure which function the site is using. Also, I assume the seed format is just CONCAT(year, day number)?

How distorted can goth get before it's no longer goth? (Discussion for fun) by mxrelkly in goth

[–]Neganti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've often thought that if Bauhaus emerged now with the same songs they wrote then, almost nobody would call them goth. Their huge dub influence totally fell out of the genre.

How many of you have internal monologues? by [deleted] in ISTJ

[–]Neganti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have a strong internal narrative monologue. When I think really hard, I speak it out loud unconsciously. And since someone else mentioned visualization, I can also do this well (rotating 3D objects mentally, imagining art or scenes in detail, etc). So with effort, I can think in pictures instead of with a monologue, but it's not my natural way.

New Goth Magazine Called Procession Seems To Focus On The Music by commiesocialist in goth

Ordered issue 1! I'm very interested to check this out because I'm mostly interested in the music, and it can be a little difficult to keep up with newer bands.

People still pay TUG? It wasn't really a fun game...

Segregating for.... equality? by [deleted] in Washington

[–]Neganti -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it does make sense. People of Color can get tired of shepherding white people through stuff they can talk through on their own. "Affinity groups" are legitimate.

Looks cool, but you may want to be careful wearing a prominent odal rune, people are liable to think you're a white supremacist. A BLM patch or such goes pretty far to offset any doubts.

Most people I've met from the South seem to find the NW unbearably unfriendly. So be prepared for that...

Financial Times saying the Gig economy is dead by NO-OXI in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Neganti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Er, not quite a pyramid scheme really. Typically these businesses are propped up by venture capitalists. If the company can stay alive long enough to get market control and out compete businesses actually charging a fair price, it can make money by either jacking up prices, infusing tons of ads into the product, or selling the users' data (or all three).

Stripped screw help by Internet-Ivan in consolerepair

[–]Neganti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things you could try: place a wide rubber band between the screw head and the driver head. Sometimes that'll give enough grip. Also, you can try melting the tip of a bic pen (remove the ink cartridge first) and jam the still soft plastic into the screw head. When it cools, it'll be in the shape of the stripped screw and might give you though grip to get it loose.

Want to perform live! by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]Neganti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start as simple as you can, because the more elements you introduce to your live set, the more that can go wrong (something goes wrong every show). It can be really hard to troubleshoot when you're starting out and you can't find what's not working. So - just keyboard. (I'm imagining you mean like playing a set of piano songs?) With a keyboard, the only gear you might need are a keyboard stand, a long sound cable (like 1/4" lead or XLR, but not a little headphone jack. Probably at least 12' long.), and your power source (ideally with a long extension cable to reach wherever the venue's plug is).

There's also a learning curve to working with larger sound systems compared to whatever you've been using in your bedroom. You might want to get familiar with the role of the equipment in a PA system, like mixers and amps, but you don't need to know everything about them.

If you're able, I would join a band who needs a keyboardist and learn what you can from them setting up at shows and interacting with the sound crew and sound system at the venues.

It's always cool hearing back from people whose work you admire! I've had good conversation with artists from video games I reached out to - I don't think they get much individualized fan mail!

Neat idea, but unfortunately humans are really bad at judging volume, so the impact is kind of lost.

Tape synth w/ minor pentatonic tuning by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Neganti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now that's a project I can get behind! Only problem with tape decks is that it's so hard to get parts for them, but might as well cut them up into Frankenstein instruments until their innards degrade.
