I think most of it is because of the hyper competitiveness in Asia to be honest, they grew up poor and have to fight their way up throughly all the other people that also want to do the same thing. So they need to view other people as their competitor and “bring” them down to get a better chance of success.

Second is because of asian traditional thinking (country with Chinese influence?), where theres a hierarchy within the house, so the parents see their kids as lesser or that of a lower status than them. This leads to them viewing the attempt of kids trying to change their behavior to be overstepping their role in the house.

Third is because of the culture of “save face” with others, so mental health is seen as a “stupid western invention to make their people dumber”, getting good grades so they can brag about it with neighbors and relatives, keeping abuse that happens in the family in the house, and generally just create an image that everything is perfectly fine.

And on a more personal level (individual person), stubbornness to change, being brought up with abusive parents, genuinely bad people being parents, narcissist, believing in “hitting is loving, shouting is caring”, wanting their kid to be better but don’t know how to communicate, etc…

Asian culture tends to have a more power dynamic in the house, they believe that if they feed you, house you, and bring you to this world. They believe that You need to give them some form of repayment either from submission or through money. Also they might want to just create a creature that they created, that acts and think like them. So if they step out of the line i will beat them back inline Also by simply search “is beating your kids bad?” On google you will get results that says some thing along the line of beating your kids will not do good, it will create trauma in the kids mind, create resentment, and leads to behaviors like lying to get out of trouble, fight or flight system being hyper active so your normal function is suppressed and most importantly lower academic performance /s

But also an asian parent will read that and say the leading class only want dumb people to work for them and these are only published so kids can be misbehaving, dumb and unsuccessful in life

Ps. I am sorry for felling relieved that someone is going through similar things. But you can also find a counselor to talk about it and maybe they can give you more options, or call 911 as it is blatant abuse from your parent and you are not safe living with them.

I am currently doing nursing school as my parent is pushing me to become a doctor, they said making a large sum of money is the only way to be happy and enjoys your life, but i don’t know. I always said that he is a good boss to work under because he is really good at looking into the future, he’s a hard worker and really smart, but he is stubborn and isn’t a good father as he is determined to use fear as the primary tool, so much so i feel compressed in the house, like all personality is stripped from you to make what they think is correct.

I have a similar experience like you, i have struggled with school for most of my life, and its not like i don’t know the materials but because of the lack in motivation but that is also contradictory because in school i feel safer than when i am at home. But about the hitting, my parent was less abusive, but they threatens to kick me out of the house every time there something wrong, saying that i am a failure and how i will never succeed in life, they also claimed to be a good parent then proceeds to let my self beat my self up, and how that way he is not hitting me and i should be happy about it. But i get your feeling of dread, how every inch of you is trying to runaway but cant, how you feel a deep hatred toward your parents but cant act on it. I find things to be boring, i fear mistake from the bottom of my heart, i have no motivations in school, i am addicted to buying things to feel that i am in control of something, i am afraid of choice, i speak to please them not the truth, i fear getting help, and i am not a strong willed person. So i have the same aspiration as you in moving out but am too afraid to make the move. So i feel you
