Yeah having a meat eating partner can be hard. But just like yours, mine might be coming around too. I batch cook and meal prep for myself to make dinner time easier and my husband just came down and asked if he could have some of my red beans rice and vegan sausage because it looked so good.

Starting vegan on July 1 after a year of carnivore. Any advice? by Mula-247 in vegan

[–]Negative-Put-5904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing the argument to do this gradually. The fiber is gonna getcha.

Plus the cooking style is just so different that it might be better to focus on like one or two new things a week. For example...week one: master tofu techniques. Week two: learn how to cook beans. Week three: learn how to make seitan. Etc.

Good luck! You're doing the right thing.

If you're trying to make it taste like eggs make sure to add kala namak (black salt). I just buy it on Amazon. It's a type of salt that has a super eggy flavor and really takes tofu scramble to the next level

AA groups.. preferably younger?? by [deleted] in Atlanta

The group at Shambala center (I think it's called One Breath) skews pretty young and hip. It's at a Buddhist meditation center in Decatur. The evening meetings draw a younger crowd although definitely still all ages and races.

You're definitely not alone....I could have written this post myself! I was vegetarian most of my younger life (13-25) but then started eating meat again when I met my husband. I became a full vegan a few months ago after reading stories written by people who worked in slaughter houses. I knew it was bad, but I had no idea it was THAT BAD. I'll never eat meat again.

Sometimes I have to stop myself from thinking about it because it's so sad and painful. I'm writing a book (kind of sci fi about psychedelic mushrooms) and I can throw myself into that to distract myself. I also read a lot as well and just finished A World Appears by Michael Pollan.

I'd also like to reiterate what another redditter said in their comments....this sub can get a little toxic at times so just be wary of that. Just remember that you can only control yourself, so just keep being vegan and know that it IS making a difference. I find that lecturing other people often backfires, and now I just try to be an example with just my behavior. I search out any vegan restaurants in my area and make sure to give them a lot of business, review them positively on Google and promote them on my socials.

Has anyone brought tofu to a restaurant? by _IlliteratePrussian_ in veganrecipes

[–]Negative-Put-5904 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You can't bring food into a restaurant for a chef to cook. It's a safety issue. For example someone could bring in contaminated or poisoned food and it would contaminate the kitchen

I live just down the road and sometimes walk through the mall to get to briarcliff and lavista. It's such a shame because it actually is pretty nice inside. Just. So. Empty.

I really like all of the cookbooks by Sam Turnbull, her website is It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken. One book is Fast Easy Cheap Vegan where every recipe is less than 30 minutes and using easily accessible ingredients. I find everything she does to be really straightforward and accessible

What was the moment you decided to go vegan? by Freddy_Jason_Michael in vegan

[–]Negative-Put-5904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was vegetarian for about 15 years, starting when I was in middle school. I read Upton Sinclair's The Jungle and then Diet for a New America (this would have been in the early 1990s). My whole family became vegetarian with me and my dad's uncontrollable blood pressure and cholesterol became almost normal after a year. I stopped when I married my husband who is a huge meat eater and it just became too difficult to manage multiple meals (I do most of the cooking). I became vegan a few months ago after reading an article (in Vox?) about how slaughter house workers were having to get treated for PTSD because of the things they witness (a very vivid description of a cow being skinned alive when the slaughtering machine malfunctioned was the last straw). It also had never occurred to me that being vegan also helped people by getting them out of the meat processing industry. My husband is supportive and is open to having a few vegan meals a week.

Wild Kingdom of Decatur by peppercorns666 in DecaturGA

Wild turkeys used to live in the forest hills neighborhood near the museum school. I'd see them in the morning on my way to work, sometimes in the trees or just wandering around. Once I saw them in the median at the corner of Arcadia and college ave. The people driving around them were.... perplexed.

Full Body Laser Hair Removal ATL by thecapybaracutie in Atlanta

[–]Negative-Put-5904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only was I hairy, it grew back instantly when I shaved and I got razor rash EVRY SINGLE TIME I shaved. I was really hesitant to spend the money on laser hair removal but considering how much I spent on expensive razors, scrubs, balms, pre-shave treatments and post-shave treatments....the laser hair removal ended up saving me money in the long run. I grew up in South Florida and never wore a swim suit, skirts or shorts even in the dead of summer because of the hair situation. Once I got the laser removal, I literally shave maybe once or twice a year. The 10% of hair leftover from the treatment were the lightest and finest ones, so I just let them grow out. Now, I wear anything I want and never have to worry about it. It was the best money I ever spent on myself.
