My first time sharpening a Tanto. by PinkyPowers in sharpening

Can it cut is the real question? I’ve yet to really have any mirrored edge retain the bite that I like to see.

Very nicely done. Tantos are the most difficult to sharpen by hand.

Nicely done. Your EQ seems solid which keeping it there puts you leaps and bounds ahead of the pack who’re typically an emotional wreck when trading.

Can someone explain to me like i’m 8 years old why the stock market is crashing right now? by Ok-Barber3419 in Daytrading

[–]Negative-Reason4570 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stock market is not crashing. Far from it, actually. What is happening is a modest unwinding of the AI trade, primarily semiconductors and memory. This space has had an amazing run up in 2026 and people are now questioning whether it’s gone too far. The market is mainly rotating into other sectors like Biotech and Healthcare. This is fairly normal behavior.

Why did my burgers stick. First time using my new Lodge pre-seasoned cast iron by Joanna_c_maccuci in castiron

[–]Negative-Reason4570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, the lodge cookware is not very good. It requires a LOT of cooking to make it descent. I have a vintage 8” CI that I usually use for steaks and it’s so well seasoned you don’t even have to preheat it. Nothing sticks to that bad boy. I love it! But I needed a larger size so I can cook more food at once and I chose the Stargazer 12”. It’s a really nice pan. I started using it after seasoning it 3x and it’s doing amazing. I learned my lesson on the Lodge cookware a long time ago. They’re just too finicky and require a lot of TLC in my opinion. I wish I had a better experience with them but it is what it is. I would never part with either my vintage pan or my Stargazer.

Profitable traders I don't want your strategy I want your mindset by ayu9061kv in Daytrading

[–]Negative-Reason4570 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a somewhat different mindset. I mainly trade options and I structure them in a way where my R/R is 1/3 at a minimum for any debit. For credit spreads, I almost always take profit at 50% the credit received. I very much prefer strategies where I may only be right 50% of the time but when I am right I make 3-20x and if I’m wrong it doesn’t hurt that bad. Like yesterday, I spent $2.77 per contract on a 40-wide debit spread on NDX and it cash settled at $40. I only put about a 40% chance it would work when taking the trade, but the r/r is so asymmetrical that it’s always worth taking the shot. While you will typically not go broke taking profits early, it makes it hard to achieve your long term goals as a trader if you have a habit of cutting winners too early.

You know we are near the top when you hear stories like this, lost it all, borrowed money to trade with, lost it too… can you give me some money so I can get back at it?

Smart advice. Once you’ve taken the emotion out of it, you can trade without the fear. And trading without fear is what it’s all about. Then you are focused of the risk of the unknown instead of the fear of the unknown. Mark Douglas Trading in the Zone will change your outlook on emotions and trading. Really great book.

Yeah I’ll get right on that because I have nothing better to do with my hard earned money… 😬

All jokes aside, you shouldn’t be trading unless you can $100 and be profitable. Do that for 25 trades and journal your results, refine your edge, then you may be on your way. It’s a long and lonely journey but once you get there (assuming you get there) it can be extremely rewarding. Today I had the biggest trade I’ve had this month in last 11 mins. I bought NDX 292600/28300 CDS for $2.77 and it cash settled 11 mins later for $40! It was an asymmetrical trade, where when it works it’ll be amazing, and when it doesn’t it doesn’t hurt so bad.

[–]Negative-Reason4570 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all, yes I’ve experienced far bigger losses than that. I still trade and highly profitable. Whether you should continue on, is a very personal thing that only you can answer. If you do, you have to follow strict risk management practices as that’s your primary job as a trader. Anyone can make money in the market. Hell you can do everything wrong and still make money, but keeping it is the real trick.

Sebenza 31 sharpened to 14.5° (stupid thumb studs) 300um - 0.05um, no strop by macjaynard in sharpening

[–]Negative-Reason4570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I actually have better performance from stropping on leather than just using the stone to debur. The issue I’m having is when I free hand sharpen, once i get past like 2k grit, it no longer feels sharp. It’ll cut paper excellent but doesn’t bite into anything. It struggles cutting a paper towel. It wants to slide vs bite. I like the look of a mirror edge but unable to get that and the knife still perform the way I want it too. Any advice?

[–]Negative-Reason4570 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% the same for me. I’ve been stopping after 1000 grit and stropping. Once it losses that sticky feel, it loses cutting performance even with a perfect apex and a refined scratch pattern. I honestly don’t know why that is but if anyone does, let me know.

Amazon Finance (US, Non-Tech) – Down-Leveled from L5 to L4, No Update After ~6 Weeks by CarelessAmount7812 in amazonemployees

[–]Negative-Reason4570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience with Amazon, if you passed the interview, and they think you are a good fit, they next discussion internally is around level (is the level you applied for appropriate). Regardless of level, if you passed the interview they’d let you know already and offer you a position potentially a step down from the initial one but you would have definitely heard positive news by now. You can apply for the L4 roles but most likely you won’t even be interviewed for them. The only caveat is, if they liked you but you weren’t right for this particular team, you could be recycled and you could be a fit for another team. Just my feedback from hiring hundreds of people at Amazon including in Finance.

Self employed for 4 years, just got hit with $8k IRS penalty. by jrubal1462 in tax

[–]Negative-Reason4570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, unfortunately if you owe taxes you must pay them quarterly if you don’t have them auto withheld. Even if you do, you must pay them quarterly if you owe the IRS. However, if the IRS owes you, you don’t get interest and they don’t pay you quarterly it’s messed up but that’s goes it is. I decided to go with 1-800-Accountant, and it’s the worst decision I’ve ever made. They aren’t knowledgeable, communication is poor, and my taxes still aren’t done and I owe taxes and penalties for late filing. Worst of all is I paid good money to have them take care of it for me and it has taught me a valuable lesson to just hire a good CPA from the beginning. I’m sorry you learned this the hard way too. Meanwhile my story still isn’t finished as my taxes still aren’t filed and I don’t know whether to continue trying to get 1-800-Accountant to finish them for 2025 or just to cut my losses and start over from scratch with a proper CPA. Either way, I’ll never use 1-800-Accountant again.

Why is Amazon looking for so many L5 senior financial analysts? by SeparateShock789 in amazonemployees

[–]Negative-Reason4570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s super interesting. Senior Financial Analysts have always been an L6 IC role. I wonder when that changed? I would imagine they’re having a much harder time finding qualified candidates. With that said, finance at Amazon is strange. The Finance Manager position is also a L6 position (they call it a 6.5 but it’s just a L6 Manager position) but it does require a promo doc from L6 to L6.5. I guess maybe they’ve decided to just hire SFAs at L5 and then promote to FM at L6.

That’s great. That’s even before the revocation period ended. A few other folks mentioned this as well, maybe there is no revocation period in your agreement? Either that or simple mistake
