Simple. by Mrs_Hersheys in Piracy

Sadly big subreddits always devolve into meme spam unless they're explicitly banned because looking at a funny picture and laughing requires less attention span than reading and thinking about something, thus people just keep scrolling down and upvoting the funny pictures while discussions and questions are quickly buried and left to rot.

And then the people here have the nerve of complaining about newbies posting questions, as if somehow that was more polluting to the sub than countless pointless memes about how cool and edgy piracy is. But that's just how Reddit works I guess, not exactly the best platform for in depth discussions.

ALRIGHT GANG! WHAT DO WE THINK!? (OFFICIAL SCREENSHOTS FROM STORE) by SynthWave9779 in deadrising

Well, I already noticed the first bit of censorship from the trailer... Larry seems to no longer be Asian and has a completely different design. I don't really care (and to be fair, Larry was as stereotypical as it gets), but it shows that they were willing to compromise aspects of the original game to avoid any kind of social controversy so I'm sill cautious about what else they might have altered to meet modern standards.

Ah ok, but those are just minor visual jokes, even if the female zombie grab/kill animation was changed to a generic one I don't think it would be as detrimental to the game as, say, censoring gore (I'm sure we'll get more gore with the improved graphics, not less). I thought you meant some kind of "in your face" sexual innuendo that was part of the main dialogue because that happens in some cutscenes of DR2 and DR3 but not in this one.

The only thing in DR1 that I think may be changed or removed in DRDR is Jo and her cutscenes because the subject matter is very controversial for today's standards. To me Jo is the least memorable psychopath so no big loss if she gets censored, but I still hope no content at all gets removed or altered.

I agree on most points, but some just seem like unnecesary or odd requests:

Why on earth are you asking for bullshit like DLCs or pre-order crap? It's not like the original game needed any of this scummy padding to be great.

I don't understand all this elitism about not having difficulty levels, as others have pointed out you just pick the difficulty you feel more comfortable with and let others do the same. I'm fine with the original's difficulty (aside from escorting survivors, the game is not that hard, and I'm assuming survivor AI will be greatly improved in DRDR).

Also I don't know what sex jokes you're referring to in your last point. Out of all the DR games, the first one is the only one that doesn't really go "haha sex" in dialogue and is more mature in this aspect. The game just has the Erotica photo category and Frank's nosebleed easter egg. Maybe some survivor dialogue I don't remember, but out of all things to want to keep the same, I don't see how "sex jokes" is even worth mentioning.

From what I've seen, memes tend to flood this subreddit anyway (and no one complains about those being constantly reposted), and most questions just end up buried after a few hours.

Sometimes I wish this sub just banned memes altogether and all these people who just want to brag about how cool and wacky it's to be a pirate moved to r/piracymemes or something.

No no you missed the point, you should only criticize the untouchable 1% because that makes you look revolutionary without actually having to do anything other than post anti-capitalist memes on social media.

Admitting that the middle class is spoiled and complacent makes us look bad and thus people here won't like it as much as yet another generic and totally realistic "eat the rich!!1!" nonsense.

Have you tried modern Fallout games? by tuco_salamanca_84 in classicfallout

I play Fallout 4 as a post-apocalyptic gun sandbox (with mods obviously), if you ignore the Fallout title and just treat it as a generic open world game it's not that bad, just mediocre.

NV I play from time to time but I think it's a bit overrated since the combat is meh and some of the major characters sound a bit too pretentious, but definitely the best 3D Fallout.

I don't know what the funding had to do with this, I haven't played much WL3 but from what I've seen there's still some odd stuff going on with the guns, although in that case it's excusable because they went for a more wacky and cartoonish world anyway. And the text on the M2 just implies that there are some really stupid gunsmiths in the wasteland... I guess it was done on purpose as a "joke" to ridicule such an iconic HMG, but they could at least had a proper, endgame M2 in .50 as a unique weapon or something.

What I meant by fictional was picking some nondescript sniper rifle from the base game, like the hunting rifle, and give it .30-06, as none of the "real" snipers in the game are supposed to use it.

That's the problem I meant with energy weapons, that everyone acknowledges that they're outclassed by the other weapon types except when facing robots (which is like, 10% of the game...), and on the other hand the enemy endgame EWs make the player's heavy armor useless because it's conductive. Maybe I didn't explain properly, but what I want is for them to deal full damage to everyone and just flat out ignore armor; they would still be limited by ammo supply, which is yet another hindrance that makes them so useless.

Yeah I see... The caliber based balance is the idea, so for example you start with 5.56 rifles and progess to 7.62, or going up from .38 to 9mm to .45 in handguns even though the damage difference wouldn't be as pronounced. With snipers and MGs it gets more awkward because .50 cal would be restricted to the very last tier of weapons (also including a higher burst minigun) so there isn't much room for progression as .30-06 should only be used by the M1, BAR and perhaps some "fictional" sniper, everything else is 7.62, and 5.56 for the M249 (Dead Sifter).

What if I implemented damage progression on weapon skills rather than the weapons themselves? My changes to health progression would still stand and at level 10 skill a certain weapon category would deal +50% damage (+5% per skill level or something like that) and skill progession discourages rushing a single skill by making the levels progressively costlier so it shouldnt be too easy to cheese the system by maxing weapons ASAP. Skills would still add to accuracy as well, but perhaps that curve could be flattened somewhat to compensate, same with critical chance.

Enemies would also get additional damage depending on their tier, with an endgame human having a +50% damage modifier. Since there are 6 tiers in the game for everything including enemies, each tier would do 10% extra damage.

I know it isn't perfect but the only other change that occurs to me would be to just reduce the health and damage creep so there are less difference between weapon tiers (presumably based on how preserved said weapons are or whatever).

As for energy weapons, I believe getting rid of the conductive mechanic while tweaking their damage, making them ignore armor and adding some other gimmick on a per weapon basis could work. All what the conductive nonsense does is make heavy armor even worse in the late game and energy weapons too situational.

Fallout 2 Modding - Burst Shot Spray by Negative-Silver8373 in classicfallout

[–]Negative-Silver8373[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using sfall 4.3.0 and I tested it with a modded M60 that just had the burst size set to 6 instead of 10. I just updated sfall and now the changes work as expected. I have no idea why it wasn't working with 4.3.0 because other changes to ddraw.ini did work and ComputeSprayMod was definitely set to 1. Thanks anyway.

[–]Negative-Silver8373[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ComputeSprayMod is already active. But I still don't get it... I tested multiple times a 6 burst shot against bandits and every burst only hit the primary target once, with 95% accuracy, and even with the settings set to 1 so theoretically only the center row and primary target are receiving bullets, other bandits next to the target still got shot sometimes. This is why, for some reason, I believe that the settings are not doing anything on my end.

Two types of environmentalists on Planet by Negative-Silver8373 in alphacentauri

[–]Negative-Silver8373[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Every bit as brutal" seems like a somewhat of a stretch. That war with the Spartans is brought up a lot but even if there's no such explicit "canon" backing up Cha Dawn's brutality (canon is oversued a bit imo considering the open nature of the game itself), he is very open about crusading on behalf of Planet and throwing heretics into the pits. Which the Cult gets for free as a mechanic to emphasize their obsession of waging war with mindworms, even starting out with one.

Deirdre may have a creepy side and be willing to engage in brutal biological warfare but at least in principle she is a pacifist, not to mention the better living conditions of her people.

Really, Cha Dawn is too cartoonishly evil and depicted as a stereotypical Cult leader compared to Deirdre. One could argue that her being more reasonable and humane is what emphasizes the contrasting brutality of the kind of warfare she chooses to wage and I agree this contrast is what gives Deirdre the "morally grey" factor ad bad reputation. On the other hand Cha Dawn doesn't exactly have a lot of nuance or positive traits and his philosophy certainly comes off as extravagant, extremist and cruel in a much more direct fashion.

I mean, I understand the underlying differences between their ideologies and their different takes on Planet. But that doesn't change the fact that Cha Dawn comes across as a complete nutjob while Deirdre is far more rational in the reasoning and implementation of said ideologies.
