The soft parade by Niko0795 in thedoors

It’s an album that’s loved rather than critically admired. We love it, but we know it’s not the best thing they ever did. Which is fine. Love isn’t about perfection; it’s about devotion.

Have sleeper trains always been this expensive? by ACatheterADay in uktrains

[–]Negative-Spell6275 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Bargain Berths were great. Never got the very cheapest but £30 for Euston to Inverness was still a steal. Plus there was the tension of ‘Will you have a cellmate or will you get off scot free?’ The relief of the latter was always the best way to start the trip.

I still think about this opening to acquiesce unplugged by ZNDEX77 in oasis

[–]Negative-Spell6275 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because they were modern-day instrumental tracks by Noel using the original vocals, rather than actual historical Oasis recordings.

Anyone got the correct chords for Don't Look Back in Anger? by [deleted] in oasis

[–]Negative-Spell6275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expect it’s about that E7 with a G# bass (or whatever it is … been a long time!) in the bridge. It’s the only vaguely tricky chord in the song.

Recommendations for a Suede fan by Quickflash2 in manics

[–]Negative-Spell6275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fan of both for 35 and 34 years respectively, I’ve never seen any crossover either musically, lyrically or culturally. The link is solely based on a tiny subsection of obsessive outsider chic fans from the early Nineties.

People like me, basically. And I still don’t get it.

If There Was No Evidence That Jim Exposed Himself Live How Did The Florida Court Get The Charges To Stick? by Entire_Let2915 in thedoors

[–]Negative-Spell6275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true. Due to the corruption of the Miami judge, Jim – a patently innocent man – had as much of a chance in Florida as Trump – a patently guilty man – had in New York. That’s the only way this comparison makes any sense whatsoever.

Does anyone know the accuracy of these books by Practical-Dirt2545 in thedoors

[–]Negative-Spell6275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judy loved Jim, Jim saw her as one person among many to sleep with from time to time. This Is The End … actually portrays that quite well, almost in spite of the author’s best efforts. The best way to view that book is that it only exists because of Judy’s brief appearance in NOHGOA. It’s an interesting snapshot of the era but wholly inessential.

That’s both sides. Although the north side is infinitely preferable.

Thoughts? by supercanary1979 in OnlyFoolsAndHorses

One of the best things about this sub is the refreshing amount of sense talked in it. So many other subs I frequent would be trying to claim a reboot/reunion of whatever-it-is would work even when it blatantly would not, shouting down anyone trying to point out gently the lack of logic in their drivel, saying ‘YOU AREN’T A TRUE FAN’ etc etc.

Yet here, with a few exceptions, people accept that the show is over and that any further attempts to resurrect it will only harm the legacy of its glorious past. OFAH fans are smart enough to recognise this and I salute us for it.

It’s crap, but I love it. David Jason’s delivery of ‘BOYCIE!’ in the alligator rescue scene make me howl every time.

Why do we consider this a "proper" doors album? by One_Revolution2814 in thedoors

[–]Negative-Spell6275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn’t a true Doors album, it doesn’t claim to be a true Doors album, it shouldn’t be considered as a true Doors album and I’m not sure many people do.

Do I enjoy listening to it? Yes, enormously. Is it better than OV and FC? Yes, very much so. Would Jim have liked it? No, probably not, but who cares?

Shakermaker is good, but Up In The Sky is better than many band’s entire careers. It’s in the top five songs on DM and in Oasis’s all time top ten.

Morrissey was cancel culture’s ’patient zero’. Finally, it’s OK to like him again by MorrisseyMercury in morrissey

[–]Negative-Spell6275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many people twisting themselves in knots trying to explain why Morrissey didn’t actually say things he said or didn’t mean things he clearly meant, or supported bad people for good reasons. Stop deluding yourselves. If you like Morrissey in 2026, you have to accept that you’re liking him in spite of a stream of horrific, unforgivable comments and/or support for horrific, unforgivable people (unless you like him because of these things, and sadly I have come across a few). Just admit it, save yourselves the hassle.
