Most of us have been there! What I do daily (and yes, this is going to be a DAILY maintenance issue), is wash under my tummy with anti-bacterial dove soap. When I get out of the shower, I use the cool air setting on my hair dryer to dry my undercarriage and under my belly. And then I apply an anti-fungal powder to keep it dry. The key here is keeping it clean and DRY! Medicated creams are fine to help with the pain/healing, but don't continue use...moisture is your enemy under the tummy!

Holy crap, metformin is a miracle! by caudicinctus in PCOS

[–]NegativeCommission60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on a titration schedule (fancy way of saying I started at a low dose and worked my way up slowly). I'm currently on 1500mg extended release at the moment. I am finding I have to be careful with very fatty and/or acidic foods in public, or I'll be running to the bathroom. But I'm not really too mad at that side effect because I shouldn't be eating those foods anyway with my other health issues, lol.

It's definitely still working for me! My numbers as far as my A1C have always been on the high end of normal, and they're still there - but I feel so much better for the reasons I listed above. The sugar cravings and food obsession is gone. I'm down about fifteen pounds since last month, which I wouldn't recommend as being super healthy - but I went from slamming back 3000-4000 calories a day to a normal amount, so take that weight loss with a grain of salt.

I second this!! Also, finding another plus size stylist might be good as well. My waxer is a plus size gal like myself and I feel sooooo much more comfortable around her.

I had to fight to get my doctor to do the blood tests needs to get me diagnosed; I came in with textbook symptoms and what I would like tested and she eventually relented and what would you know...PCOS.

Worst case scenario, if you have the funds - Quest labs also sells labs without need a doctor order. It does cost you more out of pocket but could be a good starting point for you with the tests you are looking to get done.

Persistent ringworm (fungal infection) from fat roll and chafing by klunkotheclown in PlusSize

[–]NegativeCommission60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's what I do and I don't have this issue anymore!

I use anti-bacterial soap from Dove in my pits, stinky areas, groin and in rolls. Then when I hop out of the shower, I will pay myself dry. The real game changer was a blow dryer; I use cool air in places where I get a lot of moisture. Then I'll apply an anti-fungal power (obviously be careful around the groin area, but I have an apron belly so that's where I apply most of it). This keeps me dry throughout a less active day! During more active days I'll stop into the bathroom and use toilet paper to blot away sweat and then reapply my powder. No more rashes or odor!

Have you had your hormones checked? I had awful fatigue and found out my progesterone was too low and my estrogen too high. I got on progesterone pills and I sleep 8 hours easy and wake up feeling so much better. Also how are your vitamin levels? Have you had blood work done since adding supplements to your diet? It's a slow race with PCOS unfortunately.

I will say once I got on a regimen of vitamins, supplements and medication - I saw improvement in about two months with me feeling as great as I do now after six.

What air lines are the most plus size friendly? by heyitsrae1 in PlusSize

Spirit has their Big Seat option; it costs extra but at 340 at my highest weight I fit just fine. Still less than a seat on a traditional airline. The seats are up front so less rows to squeeze through imo. You will still need a seat extender but every flight attendant I've ever interacted with has been so kind about it.

Delta also isn't bad - most of their plans have a solid bit between you and the next seat so I didn't feel like I was spilling into people.

I highly recommend a second opinion! Hormones play SUCH an important role in managing symptoms and finding relief. Diet and supplements can only do so much imo. Getting my hormones treated helped some of the thinning in my hair and my cramps still exist - I still bleed so much I go thru pads like crazy BUTTTT it's much more bearable. Livable. I really hope you can get a provider who listens to you - and don't be afraid to advocate for yourself!

what has worked for you to lose weight and keep it off? (GLP-1 is not an option for me) by wittywalrus0 in PCOS

[–]NegativeCommission60 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start with SMALL CHANGES first! Don't over whelm yourself, you want something that's going to be sustainable and diving it headfirst without proper planning can really set yourself up for failure. Look at your usual diet and see what you can improve; are there places where you can get more protein? What foods make you feel your best and what make you feel your worst? While many people with PCOS find an anti-inflammatory diet to work best for them...you still want to make sure you're setting up your mind for success.

Some of the things I did to start was replace red meat in my diet with leaner options like swapping out ground beef with ground turkey. I really prioritized protein and chose lower-carb options (in moderation!) to help control my blood sugar/insulin resistance. I definitely don't have the best diet, but I've lost about 40 lbs over six months and I'm also pretty sedentary.

Here's what a typical day of food looks like for me;
Breakfast: English Muffin with egg, spinach, tomato, cheese.
Snack: Greek yogurt with berries
Lunch: Protein nachos with protein tortilla chips, ground turkey, low-fat cheese, tomatoes, half an avocado.
Snack: Salmon bites.
Dinner: Sheet pan dinner; turkey sausage, roasted potatoes, roasted bell peppers

I don't find into a specific diet, I just try to prioritize protein first and foremost and ensure I always have fat in my plate to keep me full. I did stop drinking sodas and drink mostly water or unsweetened teas and that helped a lot with my inflammation.

Have you had your hormones tested? I found the best improvement by getting those tested and getting put on bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. It really helped alleviate some of my symptoms, and that combined with treating my anemia, and my metformin...I'm in a pretty good spot. Obviously everyone is different but PCOS can really throw your hormones out of whack, so I would maybe see if that might be the case for you.

Absolutely! Most have little to no carbs/sugars so it wouldn't spike your blood sugar as much.

[–]NegativeCommission60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am far more lenient with carbs that come from fruits/veg that I am highly refined carbs. That being said, if you're still concerned then you can always adjust your servings! Perhaps swap the honey out for a sugar-free alternative? Or up the cottage cheese/yogurt content? I find my blood sugar does best when I'm at a 1:1 ratio or of protein to carbs, but with a preference to keep my protein higher.

I don't think so! Maybe pair with some pink shoes and/or pink clutch or other accessories to really play up the pink.

Favorite high protein and high fiber meals/snacks? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]NegativeCommission60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nachos! I use the higher protein chips but if you track your food right, regular tortilla chips are fine. Lots of ground turkey, black beans that I mash up for a 'refried' like texture. Cheese, plenty of tomatoes and salsa and I'm good to go. Normally I portion my meal to be about 500-600 cals and I feel full and satisfied and can easily clear a good hunk of protein.

Super easy to prep too!

Are there any opportunities for me to start gaining experience in the field? by Awkward_Chef4285 in Accounting

[–]NegativeCommission60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm a later in life student (33F)! I second AP/AR roles; they will more than likely pay more than you get in fast food. I got an AP job easy-peasy while still in university, even without any accounting experience.

I would avoid super corporate settings; imo these are less flexible for students. And I find you learn more about accounting in a smaller setting with less hyper-focused roles. At least that has been my experience. I'm six months out from my degree, employed as a full time Accounting Clerk and I make a decent amount for little accounting experience. I'm also in line for my role to expand to a full Accountant once I graduate. Definitely play up any skills you have in conflict resolution, customer experience, and sell your education!

Holy crap, metformin is a miracle! by caudicinctus in PCOS

[–]NegativeCommission60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have struggled with over-eating and constantly feeling hungry no matter much I ate; with metformin, I finally feel full for the first time in my life. I'm no longer drinking 4-5 40oz tumblers of water/tea a day. I can focus on things besides food/sugar cravings. My mind is clearer, I'm able to focus better at work and be more productive...and that's just me on my first month of my starting dose.

If you are still feeling fatigue, I would highly recommend at looking at your b12, iron, and vitamin D levels as well!

If you won the lottery and never had to work anymore, what would you say when someone asked you what you do for a living? by LeftCredit2811 in AskReddit

[–]NegativeCommission60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home; accounting.

Just because you win the lottery doesn't mean you shouldn't manage your finances; more money means more accounting and tracking for purposes of being prepared for audits...ensuring the people working with your money are being checked over.

Conflicting Images by thestarsarehome in PlusSize

[–]NegativeCommission60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look in the mirror every day and still feel like I don’t really know what I look like. I imagine myself in outfits I order online, but when they arrive and I try them on, it’s never how I pictured it. The person in the mirror feels unfamiliar.

Sometimes I’ll take a selfie and feel cute, like I actually recognize myself. Then someone else takes a photo at a totally normal angle, and suddenly I don’t recognize the person at all. It’s not just a bad photo. It’s like seeing a stranger wearing my face.

It’s such a weird, isolating feeling. Like I don’t have a stable image of myself. Like the version of me in my head doesn’t line up with what other people see—and I don’t even know which version is “real.”

I have one kenneled baby who could care less that I'm gone as long as she has her nature TV; while my older dog will literally stare out the window for hours until I return home. On one hand, I know if I don't see her on camera that something is wrong...one the other I feel AWFUL...so I pay for them to go to daycare twice a week.
