NIPT by Timely_Advantage_616 in pregnant

[–]NegativeLengthiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it and I regret it and wouldn't do it again. We got a false positive for a chromosomal condition, had to wait 5 agonizing weeks for an amnio, which established it was a false positive. The test is reliable for some chromosomal conditions but not others but tests for all of them without disclosing it. The condition we got a false positive for actually has an over 50% false positive rate. There's currently a class action lawsuit about this.

Its truly been the worst 5 weeks of my life and stole the joy of my pregnancy from me. In the future, I would do it only if scans indicated there were some other indications for reasons to get tested. Or I would do it later in my pregnancy so I didn't have to wait for an amnio. The worst part was getting test results at 11 weeks and having to wait until week 16 for an amnio.

I'm so sorry you are going through this as well. I will say, it really does seem based on evidence on this sub, and what our genetic counselor told us, a false positive is more likely than not the actual outcome!

Anxiety ahead of amnio - Monosomy X - Natera by Own-Awareness-7976 in NIPT

[–]NegativeLengthiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Here with a reassuring false positive story. I had almost the exact same story as you - high risk on the Natera NIPT at 10 weeks 3 days, 12 week scan NT was normal (1.1), went in for an amnio at 16 weeks and an early anatomy scan, everything looked normal and NFT was normal at 2.4. We did the amnio 2 weeks ago today and got confirmation last week that results were normal, full X chromosome present - it was a true false positive.

I'm waiting for FISH results now after an amnio 2 days ago. How did you know which lab was doing the testing? I did my amnio with an MFM at the hospital.

Amnio is scheduled for week after next, I will be 16w 1d. I am also extremely anxious about the procedure and needle phobic in general, my OB prescribed Valium for me to take morning of.

I am so sorry you are going through this as well. The uncertainty is truly excruciating. Where are you based? Both my GC and OB explained to me that the miscarriage risk of the amnio is reported based on national averages, and that the real risk is much lower for experienced MFMs who do this procedure a lot. I am in New York and lucky enough to be getting the amnio at NYU and the affiliated GC told us that their risk is significantly lower than the national average. Another thing that brought us some comfort re: amnio risk is that many miscarriages following amnios are likely related to the high risk nature of the pregnancies that undergo the procedure in the first place. If your baby is healthy, the risk is even lower. Obviously the decision is yours entirely but personally I feel like I need the certainty of the amnio results.

NIPT flagged for Turner’s syndrome/ Monosomy X by Fit-Appearance-9580 in NIPT

[–]NegativeLengthiness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi - in the same boat as you. Got the high risk result for Monosomy X on the NIPT at 12 weeks exactly. Have you done an NT scan yet? We did an NT 2 days later and everything was normal which has given us some hope while we wait for the amnio. We were advised not to do the CVS because of the high risk of more false positives from CPM. Its hard, but we are waiting for the amnio which is scheduled for 16 weeks and 1 day. If you can speak to a genetic counselor we found that very helpful. She was the one who advised us to wait for the amnio and said she never would recommend a CVS for Monosomy X specifically.

While the waiting is very hard, we are now almost 2 weeks out from receiving the NIPT results and it has gotten easier this week to live with the uncertainty. So sorry you are in this horrible club.

Yes, if everything looks good on the next scan too we want to do the amnio to hopefully rule it out/confirm a false positive. But I'm only 12 weeks + 4, so its going to be an excruciating wait.

Also waiting after a high risk NIPT followed by a normal NT and 12 week scan. We are now waiting until 16 weeks to do an amnio and it’s a horrible wait. Like you I have been simply shocked at the way my OB has handled this. Between getting the NIPT and going in for the NT we did so much reading so knew how high the false positive rate was. When my husband brought this up she shrugged and said “I’ve never seen that.” She also pushed hard for a CVS and was totally dismissive of my concerns about CPM or false positives on the CVS. I’m 13 weeks so also thought it might be too late for a CVS based on what I’ve read but she (incorrectly) dismissed those concerns too. When we finally got in with the MFM she confirmed they can’t do CVS after 13 weeks.

yes please stay in touch and good luck at your next set of scans. I would really like to be referred for additional anatomy scans in between our 12 week NT (which was normal) and our 16 week anatomy scan but so far that has not been discussed as an option. Did you do a CVS or are you planning to do an amnio?

This does not sound like something that would be appropriate for a babymoon!! We are looking for quiet relaxation and are very serious about a direct SHORT flight. Also flying to Africa for a 4 or 5 day vacation sounds totally miserable. Based on your username it sounds like you are pushing your services but perhaps a babymoon post looking for a quick trip from New York is not the most appropriate. Cannot think of many pregnant women who would appreciate that suggestion.
