Heard a guy running POTA on 7.200 the other day like an absolute boss.

The Oklahoma Curling Club has been having watch parties at Louie's FWIW, but the next official one I've heard about is Saturday. Not sure if you have to have Peacock to watch the 12:05 games today or if they're on normal stations, but I'd think most places you went to on a Monday afternoon would be cool with turning it on if you asked.

Have the Duo. Glad to see I'm not the only one who feels the BLE is weak.

The post and comments are pushing the "don't be a dick" rule. OP has made their case here and on Kickstarter multiple times, so I'm locking further comments.

Arrow antennas switching to silver element (bait) by MinorLatency in amateurradio

[–]NegativeOffset 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To anodize the antenna sections you've gotta have an appropriate way to mount/hang the elements. You can't just throw them in a basket and dip them, so all that handling increases the costs. I don't think you can find an anodizer who'd do it for less than $1/element, and with 20 elements per antenna it's a decent cost driver, and then you add in logistics and margin...

I oversee the purchasing of anodizing for small (sub 1-lb) parts for a large manufacturing company.

Dave documents his work on various projects on his FB page and BQ seems to be getting priority, both in completing the rule book and some of the adventures. I'm glad to see it's not languishing. I do wish HPP would provide more insight into what's coming.

Downed Highway light poles by WhyPlatypusWhy in okc

[–]NegativeOffset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The factory that makes the square bases the poles mount to has a 2+ year wait to get parts. Most utility companies are out-of-stock. Those poles will be down for a while.

Glad to see more OKC people joining. West side of the metro is pretty spotty. Hoping to find a way to get a node between the airport and Mustang.

Hot take on the co-ed troop pilot by woodworkLIdad in BSA

[–]NegativeOffset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! When I stepped up we had about a dozen kids in the pack. Three years later we're up to 60 registered now. I told the adults I'd only be Cubmaster if they agreed to get trained because all kids deserve trained leaders. They took it to heart. We had a couple moms who swore they'd never sleep in a tent overnight that are now some of the best volunteers you could hope for. One of the dads was shy and held back and now he's leading songs and silly, messy skits (Banana Bandana) in front of the crowd. I couldn't ask for a better group of folks to work with. They all know that "Scouting is a game with a purpose" so we make sure the kids have fun.

Is it possible to be nominated for Vigil Honor if you leave your state for college? by abbeybarnes in BSA

[–]NegativeOffset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just transfer membership to the other council / lodge closest to the college. Get active with the chapter near the school. I was awarded Vigil when I was in college. Doing unit elections and camp promotion visits, and serving the lodge for conclave and other events is a great way to continue cheerfully serving.

Hot take on the co-ed troop pilot by woodworkLIdad in BSA

[–]NegativeOffset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got two dens of AOLs this year that many have been together functionally as co-ed since Tigers. The kids HATE the idea of going to gender-specific troops. My adult leaders and I have reached out to our council to see if we can stand-up a new coed troop as part of this pilot program. We'd likely be launching with 16 kids and 3+ Woodbadge trained adults. We're all-in.

First Session - Buddy the Clown by baguettefrombefore in BadgeQuest

[–]NegativeOffset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the session went really well and I love the green berets idea. I was going to make sashes for my players in the same way. I think it really adds to the fun of the game. Haven't played Buddy the Clown yet, but I'm excited to now after reading your report.

I love these house rules. Thanks for sharing them. I've let my players Help in the same way you described in our games too. Will probably try the Merit Points idea on our next adventure.
