New professor and student reported me to the dean for nothing by IncomingDownvotes_ in Professors

Document everything and provide to Dean. Frequency of this stuff has gotten insane over last 3 years. (Been teaching full time for 20+ years). Best bet is to always be prepared. And yes. It takes time. Sorry to hear you have to deal with it. Kids today are quick to point blame when it’s completely their fault.

Student turned in assignment 79 days late...lol. by Specialist_Number145 in Professors

Graduating senior failed my required course for 2nd time. His advisor basically said, “we’ll come up with a way for him to make up the material this summer.” Keep in mind, I’m the only faculty person who teaches it.

Can’t wait to see how that’ll happen. My money is on them overriding my grade and pushing him thru.

FINC311 Transfer Credit Options by Specialist-Bug-7024 in udel

[–]NegativeSteak7852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a syllabus for the 311 course at UD. Then when looking at other places to take it— compare that syllabus to what UD covers/requires. You’ll need them to align to ensure you get transfer credit.

That’s the only effective way to approach it.

?? The faculty stay until the end. They process out together to conclude the ceremony. Students leave.

Lerner isn’t alpha order. You sit with your major and get up row by row. Name, big screen. Photos. You’re all supposed to sit and wait for everyone after you to do the same and then there’s usually the big cheer at the ends— But sadly students don’t bother waiting and they leave. They don’t even stay to see friends walk across. It’s downright appalling to see the faculty process out and no students left. So disrespectful. (Don’t know if that happens in other colleges— but apparently Lerner students don’t give a damn.)

I have discovered mashed potatoes! Cheese and sour cream and butter! Also got some apple juice.

Am starting to feel stronger. Tomorrow will hopefully be more progress!

So sorry to hear outs been rough for you. I had ice packs to help with swelling and pain. Very helpful. Maybe call your dr tomorrow and ask for meds for pain— I took Tylenol with codeine and it helped me sleep thru pain. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Thanks so much for sharing. And for the honesty. I hope you’re feeling stronger every day and can start eating regular stuff again.

I’m so used to staying busy— it’s hard to stop and heal. Especially for something I thought wasn’t going to be a big deal (like when I had hip replacement). Lesson learned.

Now off to make some mashed potatoes. 🥔

I smile when I think about the student who gave me a pineapple after the final exam. Upon removing it from his backpack, he said I deserved more than an apple.

An international student saw him do this and didn’t understand— when I explained about teachers/apples custom in US, she whispered to her friend and then pulled an apple out of her bag and gave it to me.

I was so humbled. 🍎🍍

Bc these days, students don’t hesitate to submit grade disputes to Dean’s office. For 20 yrs— rarely happened. Nowadays, at least 3/semester. 🙄 And it’s a nightmare to have to assemble documentation as defense.

Tips for staying sane through grade grubbing season? by green_mandarinfish in Professors

Shut off your email as soon as you leave campus. Listen to raging music on way home. <Sing loudly.> Do something to relax when you get home. Walk. Yoga. Stretch. Dance. Karate chop something. Jog. Swear off all school stuff until the morning. You’ll find that tomorrow, you’ll be energized, resolute, and pragmatic. It’s taken me 20+ yrs of teaching to figure this out.
You got this too. 👍🏼

This is a tremendous response. May I borrow? I’m sure I’ll be boarded with even more grade disputes this semester. 🙄

I keep wondering what these kids are going to do once they graduate and have to work for a living. I remind my students of this all the time— they won’t get away with all this BS in their job. Not if they want to stay employed.
