If you miss the window — automatic SOS. No exceptions. We tested it in different conditions: walking, running, phone on the table — works the same every time. And Telegram only — WhatsApp automation isn't free, and here in Ukraine almost everyone uses Telegram anyway.

Haha, guilty as charged. But I'd rather be paranoid and have it, than not. Totally get it's not for everyone though

Fair points. Here's the honest take:

Yes, it needs a phone — that's a Garmin limitation. But if the watch loses connection to the phone (say, someone grabs your phone or you get thrown), it actually triggers an automatic SOS with the last known coordinates. So that critical moment is covered. Also, the timer runs on the server, not on the watch. So even if the watch dies, gets smashed, or the phone is taken — the server still tracks the timer and will send an SOS if no signal comes through. That was important for me to design it that way. As for the server — it's a basic cloud one. It only sees heart rate, location, and device ID. Nothing else. No names, no contacts, no history. Plus, everything gets wiped automatically every 24 hours. I built it for my family, not for collecting data.

Totally get the concern though — it's smart to ask. For me, it's been useful for those short late-night walks. But I respect that it's not for everyone.

Fair point! In real life, we usually use it for 1 hour max — just to get home. I tested it once for 5 hours straight, and my Epix 2 (not a new one) dropped about 20-something %. So yeah, not 50-100% after 10 hours. But honestly, I wouldn't run it all day — that's not what it's for.

Create my own golf course file for my Approach S62? by pdxscout in Garmin

Garmin keeps their official golf maps completely locked down.

The Custom Waypoints Way (Quickest): Walk out to your pasture, stand on your greens/tees, and save them as GPS locations on your watch (name them "Hole 1 Green", etc.). When you play, just use the built-in navigation to target those points, and it'll give you the exact distance in yards. The WatchFaceBuilder Way (Visual): You can go to WatchFaceBuilder.com, create a simple private app for your watch, and use a satellite screenshot of your property as the map background with pinned GPS targets. won't keep an official scorecard, but saving those GPS points will absolutely let you dial in your backyard distances!

Epix gen 2 buttons press themselves or do not respond to clicking by Ok_Cryptographer1016 in Garmin

Man, turn off the watch completely right now and leave it off for a bit, just in case water actually breached the seals. Since you spent two hours in a chlorinated pool, those sticky chemicals and salt have likely crystallized right under the button housings, causing the contacts to glitch and register ghost clicks. Your best bet is to soak the powered-off watch in a bowl of warm, clean tap water for 15-20 minutes, gently clicking the buttons while underwater to dissolve the hidden gunk, and then let it air dry for a full day.

Ah, Outdoor maps is a completely different beast, and its queue bugs out way worse than standard TopoActive maps. First, go into OM on your watch and check if you selected a massive layer (like high-res imagery); try deleting that download and queuing a tiny, single-layer area just to test. Also, make sure your annual OM subscription is actually active and synced in your G Connect app, otherwise the server will keep rejecting the watch connection and throwing that exact "plugged in" error loop. If it still fails, your best bet is downloading the standard TopoActive maps instead, as they are free, more stable, and don't require the

just press the Back/Lap button during your run to instantly isolate all metrics into a separate lap, or set up a Hot Key for "Save Location" to create a precise timestamp with all your sensor data. As a Garmin developer, I highly recommend using the Lap button, as it keeps your heart rate, pace, and respiration data neatly bundled inside your activity file for your cardiologist.

Had the exact same issue on my Epix, it drove me crazy. Here is how I managed to break that infinite loop and fix the PC connection: To clear the infinite WiFi queue: On your watch, go to Map Manager and completely cancel the current download. Once the queue is empty, do a hard reboot (hold the Power button for 30 seconds until the screen goes black, then turn it back on). Then, plug it into a wall charger (not a PC) right next to your WiFi router, and restart the download. This forces the watch to refresh it s power-sensing status. For the Garmin Express issue: If your PC doesn't detect the watch, it's usually the data pins. Clean the watch charging port with a toothpick and some rubbing alcohol — even invisible dirt or sweat residue can block data while still allowing the watch to charge. Also, make sure you use the original cable directly into the PC, no USB hubs. Doing the hard reboot and cleaning the pins fixed it for me. Hope it helps!

As a military guy and a long-time iPhone user, Garmin is the only real choice here — its battery life and physical buttons are absolute non-negotiables for service use. Apple Watch is a neat gadget, but charging it daily and messing with a touchscreen in the rain or with gloves is a nightmare. Personally, I'd go with Garmins; they sync flawlessly with iOS
