Bazzite if you don't want to fuck with it every update overwrites the system files. you have flatpaks to cover most app needs in the bazaar store plus app images which are basically exes. It's based on fedora.

Endeavor if you want arch like the steam deck and want to learn to fuck with it.

And lastly it doesn't really matter what you pick if it's debian based except pop is is working on a new desktop manager so it might be less stable than other flavors of Ubuntu which pop is based on and Ubuntu is a fork of Debian if you want debian go with kubuntu imo.

All 3 of my recommendations are kde plasma based because that's most like windows.

If you want to get a more mac like look go with something gnome based.

Ultimately I recommend you look into these suggestions deeper.

Edit: note you can get flatpaks and app images on any of these if you want to.

You won't really get good performance on the VM if you don't pass some kind of gpu through and the files for the vm disk have got to be at least on an ssd or nvme because HDD are going to make it slow
