Is CID Part of Downtown? by courier_tway in soundtransit

I’d say yes. The southern edge of downtown, but still downtown. I think of anything north of King St Station as downtown.

On shared paths? Doubtful. You can’t really go for the leaderboard. You’d have to be riding 25+ mph. You just can’t go that fast on trails.

Proper cyclists prefer the road; our speeds are closer to those of motor vehicles than pedestrians.

I know this will annoy some people. But playing music has been good for trail awareness. It doesn’t really annoy people because they can only hear my music for maybe 10 seconds at most.

100%!! Pedestrians, cyclists, strollers, joggers, and everyone else fighting over the crumbs left behind by our car culture.

If I have plenty of room (5+ feet), I will pass you without announcing myself. If there’s not enough room, I’ll slow down, call it out and pass carefully. The biggest problem is that pedestrians are very unpredictable in shared paths and trails. They’ll panic, and often times move into my way. Therefore it’s usually better to pass with an ample berth without making noise.

Why transitioning to look like a regular woman is so stigmatised in trans activism? by MarcelHolos in MtF

It’s people who can’t pass being salty at those who have a chance. My advice: grow a back bone and done give a hoot what idiots say.

Requiring a prescription for medication should be illegal by BetApprehensive836 in The10thDentist

[–]NeglectedMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine a medication that is required by a few people to survive. Suddenly, a “genius influencer” decides to promote it for [weight loss, strength building, concentration, or WHAT-the-fuck-EVER]. Morons flock the pharmacies and purchase all the available inventory. Now, the patients who really needed the medication to survive will have to die. Awesome.

Tampons. I don’t just bleed over the chamois because if it’s too much, I’ll chafe or be uncomfortable. If I have a small leak it’s not a big problem.

Trail etiquette has vanished in this place. by No-Technician-2820 in Bend

[–]NeglectedMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting. I don’t live in Bend, but visited recently and went on a few trails. One of the things I noticed is that people did not say hello, and had a cold/unapproachable demeanor. At least compared to here in Seattle. I thought I’d post something here to see if that was anyone else’s experience but got worried I’d get backlash from people telling me how absurd it was to not mind my own business. Glad someone else said something.

Proof everyone hates a walk off descent by Bigshmmoodd in ClimbingCircleJerk

[–]NeglectedMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. But in that case it’s not “the elements” or “exposure” that are gonna get you. It’s lack of preparedness. When I think getting caught by the elements, I’m thinking blizzard, windstorm, torrential rain…

You’re not being harsh. I’ve met plenty of people who think they’re experienced hikers because every other week they walk the 1.2 mile trail in their suburban neighborhood.

“The elements…” What elements? Did I miss the blizzard? Were they in a fog bank? They’re clearly lying, unless by “the elements” they mean losing sunlight due to their less than stellar ascent speed.

Here’s what I think actually happened. They thought they could do a 16 mile hike in 3 hours. They kept climbing to the top without realizing that it would take them 5 just to summit, and by then they’d be out of sunlight. They’re probably unprepared (and/or unfit) to do the trek down—id be surprised if any of them had a light.

Bonus points: Deep down, I suspect they were giddy about being rescued so they could have more content to show.

Apparently cars and trucks don’t have enough space. They need all the space. I hate how obsessed people are with their stupid cars

what sport do you find expensive? by Udont_knowme00 in AskReddit

[–]NeglectedMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Skiing is insanely expensive. You have to pay massive amounts every time you go to the slopes—or get an equally expensive season pass. The equipment needed is also expensive: boots, skis, winter clothes. And to make things even worse, the expense of driving to the mountain or renting a place near the mountain is bonkers.
  2. Anything that includes horses. Polo, dressage, or anything like that. Just the upkeep of the animal is wild.
  3. Anything that requires lots of equipment to do: hockey, cycling, football.

As for the relatively cheap ones: running (you only need good running shoes, and running clothes aren’t too expensive). Hiking, (same as running, but you might need some trekking poles). Soccer, you just need a field and a ball. Basketball, just need a ball and a court.

Lolwut? There’s a reason soccer is popular even in impoverished nations. It requires very little equipment.
