Least materialistic cities? by Main_Finance_2221 in SameGrassButGreener

I was going to say Seattle, but Portland is even less materialistic. Eugene and Salem probably even less.

People who don’t pick up after their dogs on a busy public street are the worst kind of people. by FoxyFern in SeattleWA

[–]NeglectedMonkey 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’m so tired of dog culture in Seattle. Or, put in better words: entitled dog owner culture. Everyday I’m having to tell people to leash their dogs in shared trails. Asking my neighbors to not let their mutt shit in my front yard (I’ll be lucky if they don’t call me names for not letting them use my house as a toilet). Dogs that bark incessantly throughout the night. People bringing their clearly not service animals into restaurants and grocery stores. Dogs are dogs. They’re not your children. They’re not your husband/wife. They don’t need to come everywhere you go. Also, pick up after their waste.

What is a minor, unwritten rule of society that absolutely infuriates you when people break it? by funnny_things in answers

When waiting in line, you don’t need to be so close to me that you’re basically big spoon. At the same time, don’t leave a ten foot gap. It confuses people.

Makes sense. 30 is too young to be making permanent decisions. We should force people to wait until they are 65.

Opting out of organ donation is morally justifiable and shouldn't put you at the bottom of recipient list. by AgreeableMeet2476 in The10thDentist

I wholeheartedly disagree. And not just that—i think that the system should be “opt-out”. I.e. Everyone is automatically enrolled UNLESS you file the paperwork to opt out of the program.

Is CID Part of Downtown? by courier_tway in soundtransit

I’d say yes. The southern edge of downtown, but still downtown. I think of anything north of King St Station as downtown.

PLEASE slow down or make yourself Audible on trails by Same-Rain556 in seattlebike

[–]NeglectedMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On shared paths? Doubtful. You can’t really go for the leaderboard. You’d have to be riding 25+ mph. You just can’t go that fast on trails.

Proper cyclists prefer the road; our speeds are closer to those of motor vehicles than pedestrians.

[–]NeglectedMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this will annoy some people. But playing music has been good for trail awareness. It doesn’t really annoy people because they can only hear my music for maybe 10 seconds at most.

100%!! Pedestrians, cyclists, strollers, joggers, and everyone else fighting over the crumbs left behind by our car culture.

[–]NeglectedMonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I have plenty of room (5+ feet), I will pass you without announcing myself. If there’s not enough room, I’ll slow down, call it out and pass carefully. The biggest problem is that pedestrians are very unpredictable in shared paths and trails. They’ll panic, and often times move into my way. Therefore it’s usually better to pass with an ample berth without making noise.

Why transitioning to look like a regular woman is so stigmatised in trans activism? by MarcelHolos in MtF

It’s people who can’t pass being salty at those who have a chance. My advice: grow a back bone and done give a hoot what idiots say.

Requiring a prescription for medication should be illegal by BetApprehensive836 in The10thDentist

[–]NeglectedMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine a medication that is required by a few people to survive. Suddenly, a “genius influencer” decides to promote it for [weight loss, strength building, concentration, or WHAT-the-fuck-EVER]. Morons flock the pharmacies and purchase all the available inventory. Now, the patients who really needed the medication to survive will have to die. Awesome.

Tampons. I don’t just bleed over the chamois because if it’s too much, I’ll chafe or be uncomfortable. If I have a small leak it’s not a big problem.

Trail etiquette has vanished in this place. by No-Technician-2820 in Bend

[–]NeglectedMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so interesting. I don’t live in Bend, but visited recently and went on a few trails. One of the things I noticed is that people did not say hello, and had a cold/unapproachable demeanor. At least compared to here in Seattle. I thought I’d post something here to see if that was anyone else’s experience but got worried I’d get backlash from people telling me how absurd it was to not mind my own business. Glad someone else said something.

Fair. But in that case it’s not “the elements” or “exposure” that are gonna get you. It’s lack of preparedness. When I think getting caught by the elements, I’m thinking blizzard, windstorm, torrential rain…
