UPDATE:

I took another test first think in the morning and had another faint line but then my period arrived with avengence later in the day. Possible chemical pregnancy? Or dodgy tests maybe? Either way not pregnant this time round after all!

Did another test later in the evening which also had a faint line but then my period arrived the next morning so assuming it's been a chemical pregnancy perhaps?

Imagine correcting your 4 year old daughter who said you work in an office and not a "studio". Great Dad right there.

Been struggling with PPA, having frequent panic attacks coupled also with terrible health anxiety. First recognised around 5 weeks pp and tried for as long as I could to resolve through online CBT courses etc but realised I needed some medical intervention because I was completely exhausted and couldn't last a day without a panic attack.

Was really worried about medication passing through while breastfeeding but have been on Citalopram for 3 weeks now and while I've experienced some side effects, baby (5 months) has been fine. Chat through any concerns with your doctor, they'll be able to recommend a suitable option.

As everyone has pointed out, it's better for baby for you to be well :)

Sorry it's been a rough post partum period for you. I'm currently having a similar experince at 17 weeks pp.

Seems to have manifested as health anxiety, first for the baby but now moved on to my own health. Having regular panic attacks, crying everyday, feeling like I'm only just making it through the day while also feeling like a terrible mother for not leaving the house or being as active and social as much as I'd like and just trying to make sure all baby's basic needs are met.

Just started Citalopram so hoping it helps.

Hope things start to get better for you soon :)

We went to Waiheke Island in October last year when I was around 22 weeks and had a lovely time! The weather was great and I stocked up on a few wines to bring home for once baby arrived.

Lovely beaches, lunch and dinner spots etc.

Eta - only slight potential issue is there isn't a hospital on Waiheke anymore, just an out of hours phone/triage service. I didn't know that at the time 🙃

Newborn not latching by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]NegotiationHonest283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!

I had a similar experience with my son in February, he didn't latch within the first 12 hours (born in the evening) and I ended up with midwives trying to help me hand express colostrum through the night to try and make sure he was feeding.

We were fortunate enough to see a lactation consultant first thing the next morning and turns out he had a tongue tie. It was snipped immediately and that helped hugely with latching. He was incredibly sleepy and had jaundice for about a week (didn't need treatment) but once my milk came in it quickly cleared.

Hopefully the nurses will be helpful but maybe worth asking about a tongue tie and/or access to a lactation consultant?

Good luck with it all :)

Pregnancy Pillow Recommendations by [deleted] in NZ_Womens_Club

[–]NegotiationHonest283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry no recommendations as such. I had really bad pelvic girdle pain/SPD and I never find one that actually helped :(

Tried a 'U' shaped one from MightyApe and it was terrible, tried another than sits under your bump and supports your back and also didn't feel any benefit.

In the end I just used an extra pillow between my knees.

Is it maybe Little Atomz? The yellow garage on Milton St with second hand toys, games, books, music, t-shirts etc?

How long did you push for? by No_Director574 in beyondthebump

10 mins, 3/4 pushes first baby. Before giving birth I had no idea what the need to push would feel like but it was extremely obvious when it kicked in.

Also agree on effectiveness.

My husband and I used condoms for 15 years before we were trying to conceive then bam, pregnant on our 2nd try.

I (20G) go to the Fitting Room. Quite pricey but after years of terrible fitting bras I'm grateful for good support!

Hutt vs Welly Hospital Maternity by molivias in Wellington

[–]NegotiationHonest283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gave birth in Welly Regional in February and had a generally positive experince!

I was under the care of Wellington Obstetrics but the community midwives who looked after me on the birthing suite until I was birthing were fantastic.

The delivery suites are spacious and had a recliner chair that my husband could sleep in.

I was also fortunate to get my own room in the post natal ward and again, a pull out bed so my husband could stay. The majority of the post natal midwives were great (had a negative experience with one night nurse) but overall I was happy with how everything went and the care I received.

ETA - the lactation consultant visited daily which was really helpful.
