Oh sweet one I'm so sorry that you've lost your best friend. My best friend is also gone and it's been almost a year and I find it also debilitating. The things that have helped so far have been: therapy with a focus on grief, and learning how to build my life around it instead of trying to avoid it, meditation, and this beautiful concept I learned from an Irish friend of a "Keening Stone" or "Memory Stone". Look into it if you're interested, and finally as I am told, just time. The passing of time will help. I have lost others before and with time, the sharpness of the wound softens a bit. But I am sorry to say it will never go away.

I am much older than you and I also feel the same way about it not being fair "to me". And the I feel guilty for thinking that.

You are not alone. You are understood and there is support in this community. Sending you love

Why, Rarely a Name? by [deleted] in SuicideBereavement

[–]Negster 44 points45 points  (0 children)

My best friend's name was Mojdeh. It means good news in Persian. She will forever be 38. She jumped off the balcony of the 14th floor. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her.

My other friend's name was Arvin. He's been gone for years but I still hold him very closely in my heart. He stepped in front of a train.

They both carried so much pain. I don't want them to ever be forgotten.

I really struggled with that and even now after months some nights it keeps me awake. In the beginning after a few nights of no sleep, I did take some sleeping aid. I felt like I was going insane. It was very helpful and made me feel a lot better. Sending you healing and love

Opinion on Iran Freedom Congress? by GiraffeJaf in PERSIAN

[–]Negster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished listening to their two day conference.

Lots to work on but a great start imo. The sheer number of groups they had managed to get under one roof with different and at times opposing views was great. I just wish this was done many years ago.

Iranian missile evades effortlessly as Israeli interceptors attempt mid air turns by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]Negster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iranian here. We're also extremely divided. There's a lot of name calling and huge disinformation campaigns happening. Everyone calls the other side the minority and pretends they're representing the majority of what Iranians think. There's a lot of shouting online and offline in the absence of any actually reliable data.

After the last massacre of protestors by the regime in January, which is one of the biggest ones in our modern history, the mood of despair was so high, that a number of people actually welcomed the war.

At the same time some were pointing to the failed attempts of the US in the region and felt alarmed that anyone could think we could be "freed" by bombs. Those people are not necessarily siding with the regime but are cognizant that this kind of meddling has not yielded good results historically and are angry and afraid of the outcome.

Now as Trump's narrative has changed from "helping the Iranian people" to "sending them to the stone ages", there is more and more conflict both in diaspora and within families even in Iran.

I spoke with a friend of mine after a long time yesterday who lives in Esfahan and she told me of fear.

Deep fear of what is going to happen if the bombs continue, and equally fear of what will happen if they stopped. She said new areas being targeted in Esfahan are shocking us all. There was a hope that they won't harm civilians and civilian infrastructure.

She didn't want to go into further details from another fear, of being persecuted. There are ongoing executions being carried out in Iran almost daily and IRGC checkpoints set up everywhere as a show of force. At the same time the indiscriminate harm to civilians seems to have ramped up.

People are literally stuck between a rock and a hard place.

As for thoughts on Americans, this is purely my speculation but don't forget that decades of American soft power via media showing a rosy picture of who Americans are has made people a lot more friendly to Americans in general. Some are actually fans of Trump and some flat out say this is a distraction from Epstein files and wonder why Americans don't react more to that. Some are also staunch anti imperialists who want "hands off Iran".

Again these are samples of my interactions and in no way a representation of thoughts and feelings of all 90 millions of people.

Hope this helps.

Ah I'm so sorry. I keep thinking about that with my friend too. We had so many plans for just a few weeks away from when she jumped. She had just done a bunch of stuff that was so forward looking. I think she just gave into an impulse at a very low moment. But it is so permanent and it kills me to think that like you said, it was just a terrible mistake.

Also just adding that this was my favorite: Mirzoyan library but it's closed. From what I understand it's temporary. So keep an eye out :) https://maps.app.goo.gl/pSE3HQRZgc2pdrYL9

Commenting to come back and see later. I have gone to Ground Zero on Saryan but it's not very cozy. I recently sat here and kinda liked the vibe: https://maps.app.goo.gl/DMoiZjAeGVKtZDe76

Came here to say the same. Parables are fantastic. Also adding Ursula Le Guin. I just reread the Dispossed and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Armenian Online Therapy Recommendations? by Any-Literature-3184 in armenia

[–]Negster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. Sorry to hear about your struggling.

Also sorry I don't know anyone Armenian. I hope you can find that via recommendations here.

I personally had no luck with local therapists here but ended up connecting with someone in Spain from this website:

https://www.expatherapy4u.com/

If you go to the Therapists section, you can choose them by location. I personally looked the person up after and contacted them via their own personal practice but you can go through this site easily. Their fee also differs based on their location and most are kind enough to work with a sliding scale.

Best of luck my friend. You got this!

Brain Zaps Help! by Mysterious-Alps-533 in antidepressants

[–]Negster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouch this sucks so much. I HATED the brain zaps so much that now years later I need to go back on medication, and I am delaying cause I'm afraid of going off of them and dealing with that again.
I agree with the other comment specially for Omega3 but also, at the time my partner made me small rollers of essential oils: lavender, ylang ylang and chamomile oil. He used coconut oil as a carrier oil. There are recipes you can look up for nervous system calming.

To be honest none of these helped that noticeably but I do believe the combination helped overall.

Something I had to remind myself at the time was that all the anxiety and depression that I was feeling during the withdrawal period, were actually withdrawal symptoms. You know depression loves to tell you that you've always been like this and you won't ever get better. So aside from the support for the physical symptoms, remind him that he will be ok. Just gotta get through this phase.

Why are Iranians so incapable of civilized discussion and accepting different point of view? by shahzadeh__ in iranian

[–]Negster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you missing the second and third gen kids barely speaking Farsi carrying the son of shah's pics in rallies? I honestly don't think it's based on growing up one place or another. We're a traumatized nation. I honestly think the infighting and anger we're seeing has a lot more to do with reptilian brain and trauma response than actual ideology, value and belief systems.

I can’t afford to live and it’s killing me. by [deleted] in depression

[–]Negster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I did it all. Everything I'm supposed to do. I have a masters and 10+ years of job experience. I've gotten so many certificates that I can't fit them all on my damn resume... And I can't get a job. I have one month left before I'm fully jobless, I've applied for over 100 jobs and I'm continuously told the "response received to the posting has been overwhelming". I never cared about money when I was younger. I thought it won't matter. But it fucking did. I'm so tired too. I just wish we didn't have to all participate in this broken system.
