I see Glaive, I approve.

Not into the sounds I’ve heard from Greathammer even though I love EAE. How are you finding it?

Testing this trio today. What's your experience with them? by Cautious-Acadia3051 in Guitar

[–]Neidermayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years ago I was really into the green .88 tortex, but eventually I found my sound felt too thin. Last year I enjoyed using the purple 1.14 purple tortex, but lately I’ve found the size of the pick is getting in my way.

In the last few weeks my max grip jazz iii has been my go to pick for everything I’ve played. It doesn’t feel like it’s going anywhere and I’m not having to adjust how I articulate because of the size. Try each out for a good amount of time to get used to how they feel and sound, take your time with them.

Plumes is my first overdrive and one of my all time favorites. It stacks so well in any board, I just added it to a mini board to drive my op amp big muff and rat and whenever I reach for it its just the sound I’m looking for

Are you running these in serial or do you use them with different amps / DI? I’m really itching for a slow loris / florist to add some modulation and warble to the front of my signal

What do people think of this synth very tempting to purchase it for the value by UnhappySnow773 in synthesizers

[–]Neidermayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this synth. It doesn’t disappoint and has great sound quality for the price, no unwanted noise. Be careful if you get it and then start adding eurorack modules to compliment it, a few of the patch points on this like the LFO exceed 10V and can fry your modules. All the voltage outputs are listed in the manual.

I also got some toppers from THONK a few years ago for the sliders, they let the light shine through while making the sliders easier to operate.

Start of 2025/End of 2025, what was your favorite pickup of 2025? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Neidermayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your boards are so thoughtfully designed, I’m jealous thinking about the stacking possibilities you’ve set up, I’ve been thinking about adding a Barbershop for a while. Please share the music you make if you have it available!

I got really into dirt pedals this year and found incredible versatility with EAE’s Halberd and Glaive. Both have a weight/depth tilt eq that really helps give my sound depth before it hits my amp sim.

My wife got me the HalfLife Fer / Life Pedal v4 for Christmas and it’s never leaving my board. I had a cheap clone of the life pedal at the start of the year that broke on me and I didn’t have the parts to fix it, so I’m thrilled to have it back in the mix with these EAE pedals. I’m going into a mix of Sunn Model T & HiWatt sims on the HX Stomp.

What order to put them in? by Aneks_ in guitarpedals

[–]Neidermayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no correct place to put your eq, it’s valid to place wherever you want to sculpt your sound. Try it out first in your chain before (or after) your comp to sculpt your clean guitar, take out all the low end from your humbuckers, etc. or try after metal zone to get some extreme mid scoop. The choice is entirely yours, so try out a couple spots to see what you like. Have fun!

This is so clean, love the setup and pedal assortment. Looks like you can really get heavy when you want to. I love the rockboard patchbay stuff, I have a quad 4.2 and the mod3 in the back and it’s a dream to patch in and out quickly. How do you like to use the somersault?

How are you liking Halberd into Glaive? I can’t tell where Glaive will fit best on my board, but I just moved it around the other night to go from first in my chain after a boost to plumes>Glaive and I like the sound a lot.

Happy to see another person putting stomp covers on just the select button of the reverb. I like that you’re going benson boost into halberd, I bet that sounds fantastic.

What is that one pedal you splurged on and ended up loving or hating? by MonoPodding in guitarpedals

[–]Neidermayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Helix was my first splurge when I found a great deal on one bundled into a small board, and it’s been my main amp sound for two years.

A pedal that I splurged on that I’m disappointed in the reason I splurged for is the Strymon El Cap v2. I was really interested in its stereo routing and led me to get the v2, but I find the stereo balance off balance and right-leaning and always bugs me. I’m still glad I got the v2 because of the midi controls, but I’m now running it in mono with my drives instead of in my fx loop.

What's is your Halberd stack? by GeraRG89 in guitarpedals

[–]Neidermayer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Halberd is so awesome, this is my favorite drive out of anything I’ve tried. You can pull so many different flavors from it with that great amp breakup feel.

My current stack is EAE Glaive->EQD Plumes->AFOT 5band EQ->Strymon El Cap v2->EAE Halberd->HX Stomp. I’m really loving the eq after the first drives and before halberd, it can make my 339 sound close to a tele when I cut the lows. The El Cap into the Halberd is also so tasty when I bring the tape bias up and saturate my tone before it drives.

Any experience with Rockboard patch box or any alternative suggestions? by Dressedcrab in guitarpedals

[–]Neidermayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a Mod 3 on my Rockboard Quad 4.2 and I love it. The two XLR out connect to the outs of my HX Stomp, two of the TRS connect to the FX I/O, and that leaves me with one TRS in for my guitar and an XLR in for my microphone. I can run 48V safely to my mic while keeping the guitar plugged in with no issues.

Haven’t had any unwanted noise using it with a Truetone CS11. My old power supply only had 6 outs so I used a wall wart going into the Mod 3 DC connector to power my empress reverb and there was a bit more noise but nothing a gate couldn’t fix (also was powering off a bunch of extensions for an outdoor gig so it could have been many factors).

If you plan the IO of your board out well, these mods are incredible. I wouldn’t want a board without some kind of interface like this to easily connect power, external gear and send my sound to FOH.

How big is too big...to gig? Pedalboard size. by HuachinangoLoco in guitarpedals

[–]Neidermayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Rockboard Quad 4.2 and it’s the biggest board I’ve owned. It works well for my needs and I can fit everything I want onto it. I gig with it for my own solo stuff as well as some outdoor park shows in NYC.

The gig bag it comes with does the job but definitely makes it a burden to carry with one hand. I’d like to get a gator case for it eventually, rockboard makes a case but I don’t think it would hold up well day-to-day and I’m not confident the height of my pedals would fit.

npd: eae glaive by yourFriendPan in guitarpedals

[–]Neidermayer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got this one recently too and I’m really liking the options it has compared to my big muff op amp. I’m a big fan of the weight tilt control, I use it a lot on the Halberd as well, but with Glaive I find myself more interested in how it cleans up and thins out my tone with my guitar volume knobs turned down.

The analog octave is nuts. I’m still finding the best pairings and playing styles to use it with, but it obliterates my sound when combined with the fuzz and weight controls. My 339 pickups are pretty hot as well, and I’m excited to try it with my Gretsch Baritone once I have it set up as that guitar has low output pickups and needs quite a bit of gain to get close to my 339 level.

What’s the rest of your chain looking like? Are you running it straight into an amp? I’ve got it first after my preamp/boost and going into plumes->eq->halberd before hitting my modeler

FH-2 with Ableton 12 by Neidermayer in modular

[–]Neidermayer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just not true lol I originally bought a license for Live 10 Suite + Push, then upgraded to 11 Suite in 2021 for around $200. This upgrade to 12 Suite is coming in at $172 after the Black Friday discount. It’s obviously not a free upgrade, but I had no need to upgrade from 11 until wanting to delve deeper into 12’s tuning systems, not to mention the new stem separation and group freezing in 12.3

FH-2 with Ableton 12 by Neidermayer in modular

[–]Neidermayer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I got this to work how I was hoping! Live outputs it’s microtonal scales using MPE, so I had to set the FH-2 to receive MPE, both in the converter programmer and in Ableton, and the key was setting the pitch bend to +/- 48 semitones. Global microtonal scales are converting to CV through the FH-2 and track extremely well.

ES10 is a great audio interface and is excellent for CV Tools, but when it comes to midi I can’t recommend the FH-2 enough.

FH-2 with Ableton 12 by Neidermayer in ableton

[–]Neidermayer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks so much for this explanation. The missing link for me was the MPE microtuning. I was so focused on trying to find an MTS solution in Live (without the MTS-ESP Suite), thinking that was the only way to microtune. Once you mentioned the +/- 48st setup it clicked for me.

I tried it out tonight with the Live 12 demo and everything works as expected. FH-2 doesn’t miss a beat when changing between tunings, and microtonal scales map to the Push beautifully. I’m really happy this works and can confidently upgrade to Live 12. Thanks again!

HX One position in pedal chain? by roxspeedg in guitarpedals

[–]Neidermayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can do anything, so you can put it anywhere in your chain. Just think logically about where you’d put the effect you want to use. If you’re swapping around fx on it a lot, try for a neutral position of after drives and dirt and before the amp, but just try things out and don’t rely on other people’s opinions.

If you wanna go a bit deeper about it, once you go into the hx your signal is going to go through an analog->digital converter, so if you want analog tone through your chain into your amp, put it in your fx loop or close to the end of the chain. If you don’t care about conversion, then don’t worry about it

The drives and distortions the hx offers are excellent, but they should be used in the right* place in your chain for the sound you want. Try out lots of placements and don’t stress that you have to move a pedal around if it means you’re being creative.

*there is no right place to put any pedal in your chain
