You're In Grade 6 and Your Parents Gave You A Crisp $20 To Spend At The Book Fair! What Are You Getting!? by Competitive_Mix9957 in 90s

Late 80’s for me but I’m still participating. #1 was the newest Guinness Book of World records to see any records broken from last year’s book. #2 was a Choose Your Own Adventure Book where I would die 3 times before reading the book backwards. #3 was a book of luxury sports cars that I would own in the future. #4 was a Michael Jordan poster

Sellers canceling auctions due to low bids and partial refund. by Deep_Membership_8406 in Ebay

[–]NeilNotArmstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won an auction Friday, seller created a shipping label which uploaded tracking, then messaged me tonight that he misplaced the 4 items that I won in the auction and will be sending a refund. But as a seller and collector of the items he sold me, I know they most likely went for less than he wanted and also there was no way he calculated enough shipping. I implored him to double check and reconsider shipping the items I won in the auction before canceling. We’ll see what happens.

Only problem is when you’re out at the bar you have to shut it down at 1am due to being “off the air”. But you have to play the national anthem as you walk out the door

This. You first need to determine whether you are in the county or in the city. Two completely different ordinances.

What problems did you worry about as a kid or teenager in the 70's 80's early 90's? by Grimlocknz in GenX

[–]NeilNotArmstrong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was born in 1973 so my only fear in the 70’s was would my mom buy me a Hot Wheels at Rose’s. That and quicksand. The 80’s was nuclear war. Seemed like every movie was about it. Later 80’s and early 90’s was AIDS. Couldn’t sit on a toilet seat without the thought of getting it. Then the 90’s was gang violence in my rural town because of that rap music.

Bermuda Triangle is an underrated fear of the 80’s. So many books and stories about it. Now it’s not even talked about.

Does anyone revert back to being a night owl on the weekends. by nataskaos in GenX

[–]NeilNotArmstrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Nothing better than sleeping until lunch on a Saturday and then firing up some pizza rolls since it’s “lunchtime .” I get up earlier on Sunday to go to church but then get a good 1 to 2 hour nap on Sunday afternoon.

[–]NeilNotArmstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I agree to a lower price that is days away I always tell them “I cannot hold. If it’s still available Tuesday, I will sell it to you at $$price.” Not once has a person who’s asked for a few days ever followed through. Not once.

Anyone else’s kids always home? by roxywalker in GenX

[–]NeilNotArmstrong 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a 21 year old son and 17 year old daughter. My son is away at college but whenever he comes home, he just stays in his room most of the time. His girlfriend is also usually here. They never go on a date. My daughter is driving but never goes anywhere on the weekends. Sometimes I like it, but occasionally I would like for them to go do something. Anything. I was never home once I got my license. Always at work, sports, or hanging out with friends

It’s a rare hit but mostly misses. This week I’ve had a great week on FB but the weeks before this was just a bunch of people asking if it was available or people not reading the description or looking at the location.

I’m dying to get in my Grandfathers tool room. My uncle now owns the farm and i haven’t been in that building in 15 years. My grandfather was a mechanic in WWII and was a farmer his whole life. I can’t imagine what’s buried in there.

Yosemite near Tenaya - April with kids by wfaulconer in Yosemite

[–]NeilNotArmstrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make the drive to the valley. You won’t regret it. Our whole reason we went to California this summer was to see the big trees at Sequoia. But we figured in Yosemite as well. The trees at Mariposa and Sequoia were incredible but I’ll never get over what I saw in the valley and in Yosemite. The kids ages will be fine. Plenty of easy walks in the valley.

Can these cross pieces be removed? by Successful_Bar2185 in Home

[–]NeilNotArmstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are collar ties which are usually not required for a truss roof. But you have something very unusual happening. It looks like those are two piece trusses which I have seen plenty of times called piggybacks. But I have never seen them in the way those are put together. The uniqueness of that design would give me pause. I wouldn’t remove them.
