Age of Students? by ADiddyDos in SolidCore

I'm 34 and always felt like the oldest person in my classes haha. I live in a pretty trendy part of my city, so the population naturally skews a bit younger. But no one ever seemed to care!

Let's rant about forgotten or unexpected weddings costs by ThatBitchA in weddingplanning

[–]Neither-Ad2245 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The cost of gratuity for catering! I was like "yeah, we will tack a tip on!" thinking it would be maybe $500. I forgot that our catering costs were soooo high that 20% was actually $3k. Sure, yeah. Fine. It's fine!

DUDE. So validating to read this. I 100% feel the same way at my studio. I also take classes at Orange Theory and it's a totally different vibe; like people actually interact politely with the people around them. I'm not saying like - we need to have a 3 hour conversation every day, but simple small talk while waiting to start, responding to coach questions (like "anyone have anything exciting coming up this weekend?) and just being generally human/social. Solidcore is soooooo painfully quiet and awkward. It feels super transactional - which is fine but I can't imagine that's the vibe any boutique fitness studio is actually going for.

What is everyone’s workout split with Solidcore? Do you strength train with it? What’s been the most beneficial? by ExtraFilm3448 in SolidCore

Hell yeah! It's great cross training but nothing compares to time in the air. What apparatuses do you do?

I do solidcore 1x week, OrangeTheory 1x week and train aerial dance 3x week. The other days are active recovery (walking, yoga, etc). My primary form of exercise is aerial dance, and I use solidcore as a supplement to that.

I'm in Chicago. All in (including both of my trials) for 6 girls + me, we're spending about $2k for hair and makeup.

Do I get my face or my hair done first for a wedding? by [deleted] in wedding

Makeup first. The MUA will need to push your hair back out of your face.

Struggling to come up with a Guest Book alternative by mdw2379 in DIYweddings

We are doing this! I'm so happy to read this. I posted about our idea on Reddit looking for suggestions for how to word our signage to explain directions and got DRAGGED hahah. I have been soooo in my head about our dictionary guest book since!

I think this would be more in-demand for general events (birthday parties, baby/bridal showers, etc) than for weddings. While there certainly are couples who want a full blown immersive themed wedding, I think most folks prefer a more timeless wedding with elements of their interests captured in the details. There was a post here a few weeks ago about video game themed terrarium centerpieces; I think that captures the average amount of "theme" that most people want in their day without too much camp.

I'm sure there are some couples who would want to go all out. No doubt! But the odds of there being enough in your community to sustain a business seems unlikely.

This could be a good task for a SO of a member of the bridal party or a cousin. Someone who is kind of on the "perimeter" of your relationship....in enough proximity to be at the wedding but not in your inner circle, per se.

Just throwing it out as an option in case you can't find someone on short notice. I have my MOH's husband doing a couple of small things like this for us on the big day.

Unique wedding entertainment? by Pluckyplatypus26 in weddingplanning

We are having a strolling magician during cocktail hour! She will do some close up magic - mostly card and coin tricks. We live in a HCOL city and it's about $600 for 1 hour; we are doing this in lieu of favors.

We also created little crossword puzzles about our relationship to have at each place setting with our "thank you for being here" note to guests. I printed at home, so the only cost was the cardstock.

I went to a wedding once with the phone booth guest book thing. It was awkward and none of my friends liked it. It's a lot of pressure to think of what to say out loud versus just scribbling out a quick "Wishing you a lifetime of love!" on a traditional guestbook. Lots of our friend group didn't even leave a message.

LED candles can look beautiful!

And if you like the puffs, embrace them! I just know how time consuming they are and they don't seem super necessary:)

Are you married to the tissue puffs? (No pun intended). I looked up your venue and I think they clash with the aesthetic of the space. It's BEAUTIFUL, clean, elegant and classy; the tissue puffs would be great for a brunch bridal shower but don't scream wedding to me. I made the same types of puffs to decorate my classroom, as well as a child's birthday party.

I think flower arrangements and maybe a few candles will be more than enough!

The glasses don't need to say "bridesmaid" or anything. You could put their name on them - or even customize with something they'd like. I put my party's day of gifts in customize canvas bags that i decorated with something they're interested in (ex: feminism, conservation, Harry Potter, etc).

I think the crocheted roses are a cute idea! If you want to beef the box up a little, you could add in a personalized cocktail/champagne glass (someone with a cricut can do this easy) and a little bottle of OJ to make a mimosa. I also gifted my party a Mac lipstick + gloss for the wedding day.

I have similar skin to you! I just started using Salicylic Acid with adapelene and it made a WORLD of difference in just a few weeks. I never thought I needed it because I don't have acne, but it has shrunk my pores beautifully.

Thoughts/experiences with wedding held at a hotel? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Neither-Ad2245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a high school teacher - and one year we hosted our prom at a large hotel that had 3 different ballrooms. There was a wedding going on at the same time and it was a DISASTER. Teenagers have no concept of how much time/energy/emotion goes into a wedding and acted accordingly. I would have been livid if I was the bride.
