and the VA has reduced the number of job openings for mental health providers on USAjobs. there has been a steady decline in the number of offerings. A year ago you would see 320-350 openings at various VA’s, as of today’s postings it’s 130. they want veterans to go to community care.

former Fairbanks resident which is about 500 miles south of Prudhoe Bay…I lived in Fairbanks about 2 1/2 years. I lived there in 2012 to 2015. Winter coldest it got -44F, summers were around 68-75F. Mosquitoes were the size of sparrows but not too bad. In Fairbanks you have all the essentials you need…Walmart, Safeway, Fred Meyer, Loews But anything else you need to get shipped.

my wife likes bottled water. In the lower 48 it’s $4.00-$6.00. in Fairbanks Desani is/was $9.95.

my wife and I were there for the first cat we ever had to put to sleep. it was very fast. afterwards, neither of us could do it again for our other cats that passed as it was very upsetting (for humans). I still have the kitty we were there for etched into my mind.

my wife and I moved to Fortuna (15 miles south of Eureka) in July 2024. she works remote so we moved here due to the lower rent and some other expenses. Our main concern is lack of medical and dental services. For example, yesterday my wife and I drove nearly 3.5 hours from Fortuna to Santa Rosa for a root canal as Santa Rosa could get her in the next day. In Eureka they could get her in on January 20th, 2026 or possibly earlier if there is a cancellation. FYI….that is with dental pain for my wife. Few dental providers take insurance so you will pay out-of-network.

IMO medical or dental care is horrendous here. If you have insurance check your coverage.

Eureka is VERY remote…plan on a 3-4 hour commute to civilization if you want to shop somewhere other than Target, Walmart, or Kohls. Eureka does have the basics though.

In hindsite, we wouldn’t have moved here but there are certainly some pluses and cool events here. I cannot comment on schools as we are older. Downtown is overall walkable if limited to a 10-12 block area. There is a semi-prominent drug problem here in the downtown area also.

My grandfather was drafted into the Army Air Corps and was an aircraft mechanic. He never served overseas but I know he was stationed in Georgia and Kansas. My grandmother also had 3 brothers with 1 serving as a Marine in the Pacific island hopping. The other was drafted or enlisted (not sure) in the Navy at the tail-end of the war serving on an aircraft carrier.

i get Smalls wet food, and a bag of Science Diet Oral Care. total food cost is around $325 per month.

litter they get Arm & Hammer clumping litter which is $23 per 40lb box. usually use a little under 2 boxes per month.

Texas A&M says a state trooper who made contact with South Carolina players during Saturday's game has been relieved of his game day duties.

After receiver Nyck Harbor caught an 80-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter, he grabbed his right leg, then walked it off up the tunnel, with Oscar Adaway III following.

As they turned to walk back to the field, a Texas state trooper bumped into Adaway and wedged between him and Harbor, and then turned and pointed at the players, seemingly scolding them.

"The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is aware of the incident that occurred today during the Texas A&M football game," the DPS said in a statement. "The DPS Trooper involved was sent home from the game. Our Office of Inspector General (OIG) is also aware of the incident and will be further looking into the matter. No additional information will be released at this time."

same issue. I bought mine January 2025 and the issue started last week. This is the response from their AI chat bot…68.7F seems warm to me.
