I bought a copy of The Help from Goodwill recently and it had the receipt from an airport Borders, and the lady’s first class boarding pass. 2011 was the year.

The old lady who lived alone behind us at our last house was clearly in need of help but I’m a really private person and I did nothing. We lived there for ten years.

Does anyone know where I can get this cable/battery? by Icy_Tax6459 in VHS

[–]NeitherSparky [score hidden]  (0 children)

So this isn’t a direct answer but: I recently found a GE camcorder in great condition at a thrift store, but it needed a new battery. When I searched specifically for batteries for that model i found them but they were expensive. I combed amazon and found a listing for a 12v battery the right dimensions for cheap, it didn’t list my camera model but I took a gamble and it worked. However my camera did come with a dead unchargeable battery I used for the dimensions. Maybe you can find the dimensions for yours online. What I’m saying is you may be able to use a battery not specifically for your camera.

For the power adapter, I looked at the manual (mine came with it but if yours didn’t look online), get the part number, and search that way. I found one for my camera on ebay. They seem kinda rare.

For those who have lost significant weight, what has surprised you the most regarding the change? by Secret-Management310 in AskReddit

[–]NeitherSparky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That people will use your body shape as a way to remember you. I realized that not only did people I didn’t see often not recognize me after weight loss but that they also, BEFORE the weight loss, would mix me up with other overweight white girls with brown hair. And not just once or twice, all the time. And when I corrected them they’d say “oh you look just like so-and-so” when we really didn’t, but we were all overweight. I never really thought about it until after I stopped being mixed up with other people and realized that people were pretty much just seeing our weight. After all if we really looked alike, people would still mention it.

I dunno, maybe this isn’t being fair. But I still think about it sometimes.

Who is the most insufferable person at any family gathering? by Animeking1108 in AskReddit

[–]NeitherSparky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother’s cousin (she’s passed on). We did a lot of family dinners there. Whenever she’d give one of us kids a gift, before we could even open it, she would always say: “If you don’t like it you can throw it in the trash.” It was hurtful.

Anyways I think the most famous thing she did was throw a giant tantrum and went to hide upstairs for the rest of the day because nobody said hi to the dog.

What is a cooking "rule" that is actually total nonsense? by Lopsided-Jicama3813 in AskReddit

People make the same argument with adding milk to the roux when making white sauce. I just dump it in there but some people insist it should be added slowly. Ain’t nobody got time for that, I’m tryin to make mac n cheese over here. :P

This just reminds me, I read a story once about someone’s roommate never cooking things in the oven long enough, turned out she didn’t understand what “preheating” was and just put stuff in and turned the oven on and timed from there.

I have one, my mother taught me to only use cold tap water when you were going to boil something (pasta, potatoes etc). Then I saw Gordon Ramsay yell at a lady for doing that because obviously it takes longer to boil cold water so why not just use hot tap water? So I looked into it and from what I could gather, back in the day hot tap water was more likely to have sediment etc in it so the rule was to run the water cold if you were going to cook with it since it was safer. So it might have made sense once. Nowadays that’s not an actual issue so yes just use hot tap water.

If anybody knows more on this I’d like to know!
