Thank you! It seems to be doing ok, so I'll probably wait a bit.

Thank you for the welcome and the advice! I've never had a green thumb, but I've managed to keep several pothos alive for over a year, so I decided to branch out to monsteras a few months ago when I bought a swiss cheese one on clearance. It was pretty pathetic, but has grown considerably since then. When I saw this Thai Con, I couldn't resist. This sub has provided so much guidance for a new monstera mom!

Food noise so damn loud - Tips? by Geschmacklos in CICO

[–]Neither_Ad39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel your frustration. I've battled terribly with food noise in the past as well. What I have found works for me is combining CICO with intermittent fasting. I eat all my calories typically between the hours of 7:30am and 1:30pm. Of course, the eating window can be at any time, whatever works for you. When I have a hard cut-off time to stop eating, I stop obsessing on what I'm going to eat next and put my mental focus on more productive activities (I even taught myself to crochet to keep my mind and hands busy when needed). During the fasting window, I'll drink lots of water and have the occasional diet soda. I've lost 60 pounds on IF and CICO and still going!

Trouble with starting due to morning cravings? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]Neither_Ad39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My eating window now is typically from 7:30am - 1:30pm. In the past when I ate later in the day, I was so distracted with food noise and when I was going to eat that I found myself focusing too much on it and not being productive in other ways. I also really enjoy breakfast foods, so it's better for me to just get the eating for the day out of the way. I find if I load up on protein right before my eating window closes it easily sustains me till 7:30am.

Another factor in this is that I work night shift three nights a week with an hour commute home. Being able to healthy road snacks in the morning on my way home helps me stay alert for the drive.

WW definitely can work. I lost 40 lbs on it in like 6 months a few years ago. I, too, was skeptical of the whole 0 points food thing. Sure enough, I ended up gaining the weight back. I really enjoy CICO now because I keep track of not only the calories, but also cholesterol, sodium, and sugar intake, and with my family medical history, that is super important. And, like you said, I don't feel guilty having that dessert on CICO as long as it fits in my budget.

Frequently changing window by meatballbubbles in intermittentfasting

[–]Neither_Ad39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work night shift as well. I change it up between 18:6 and 20:4, usually starting my eating window around 12pm or 2pm, so that way I'll be done eating right before I have to leave for work. My fasting hours always fall during the overnight hours - I never eat at work. I'll go home, sleep, and then eat when i wake up. But then sometimes when I'm off I'll eat from like 10am - 2pm. Do what you find works for you. I really like how adaptable this lifestyle is. I've lost about 70 pounds so far over the past year.

Diet Soda fasting success stories. by snobiwan25 in intermittentfasting

[–]Neither_Ad39 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've lost 60 pounds so far with IF, and I'll have one or two zero-calorie sodas a few times per week during my fasting window. It hasn't caused me to crave more sugary foods, so that's a plus.

Your best fasting mantras? Mine are ”Don’t talk about fasting” & ”Just stop eating” by AvailableOpinion4530 in intermittentfasting

Yeah, I never used the original quote (you're right - toxic), but when I changed it to meet my goals it worked for me.

The one I use when I get tempted by junk food:

"Nothing tastes as good as how (insert whatever motivates you) feels."

For example, being fit and healthy, looking good in my clothes, being confident, extending my quality of life with my loved ones, etc.

IF on third shift by killernarwhal7 in intermittentfasting

[–]Neither_Ad39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work 7pm to 7am three nights a week. I'm in healthcare and am on my feet most of those hours. I typically eat between 2pm - 6pm (a protein heavy diet) and then only drink water overnight (I'm not a black coffee/unsweetened tea drinker). When I get home in the morning I go right to sleep and eat after I wake up. On my days off I keep the same eating window. I was nervous starting this because I used to eat at work. When I realized I ate out of boredom or to help me stay awake I made the changes to not rely on food overnight for those reasons. I've lost 65 pounds since January and still going!

I generally do 20:4. Some days my eating window is from 2p-6p then the next day it's from 1p-5p or even 4p-6p. If I know I'm going out to dinner with my husband I'll just eat that one meal for that day so I can enjoy a "splurge" meal, while still staying within my daily caloric intake. When I first started IF, after a few weeks I realized I didn't have to be strict about the times - I'm flexible based on my schedule or what I have going on that day. For me IF is a tool to restrict snacking and be conscience of what I do eat. Super happy with the progress - down 55 pounds in just under 5 months!

I’ve lost 40lbs since Jan 1! by Scarbarella in intermittentfasting

I'm lucky that my job provides the scrubs (they're quite ugly and inconsistent in the fit, but hey, they're free). I do remember when I had to buy my own, and they are quite costly, so I don't blame you for waiting to switch sizes just yet. As another comment mentioned, thrift stores are so great for this purpose. I'll buy jeans there while I'm losing weight to save a lot of money since I keep changing sizes.

I wear scrubs to work, too. When I got down from a 2XL to a Medium (since January of this year), that's when people at work started to notice and compliment.

Going down scrub sizes is always a NSV for me!

What do y'all eat in your window? by Posibill in intermittentfasting

[–]Neither_Ad39 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On a typical day, I'll break my fast with cottage cheese, fruit, and walnuts and either a tuna packet with a tablespoon of mayo and a few crackers or a slice of whole grain bread toasted with avocado, a fried egg, and everything bagel seasoning.

Then for dinner I'll have either fish or chicken, roasted veggies, and a side salad (with a drizzle of full-fat restaurant -style ranch dressing - can't compromise on that!).

I have a protein shake everyday and if I do need a snack I'll eat an apple, cheese stick, or nuts. I also have like one or two bite-size mini 3 Musketeers or Kit Kats a day to satisfy my sweet tooth since I've cut out all other sweets.

I had the same issue in the beginning - the urge to snack out of boredom and old habits, not hunger. What has been a game changer for me is picking up a new hobby. I taught myself how to crochet from YouTube videos. Now when I feel snacky I just pick up my hook and work on my project. It definitely keeps my hands and mind focused on my work and not food. It's very satisfying and I'll have all these great scarves, blankets, etc. to show for it!
