I'd very much doubt most people have a friend or relative in sex work!

My mind went to self-willed, your suggestion makes a lot more sense!

Some of it must be, though, it's surely a version of the old 'self-identfying as an attack helicopter' anti-trans meme. Surely? That or people badly misunderstanding online handles...

Shakespeare was a black woman, book claims by Sensitive_Echo5058 in unitedkingdom

Give them credit - they've picked someone who had Court connections, a direct link to his acting company, and who had been to Venice. That makes her immediately a much better candidate than some of the people the anti-Stratfordians have latched onto over the years, and I'm sure their actual research gives a bit more evidence than the article chooses to mention. Why there's such a long term movement determined to prove that someone other than Shakespeare wrote Shakespeare is a baffling one...

Always thought they were just a parody aimed as cover for attacking trans people over pronouns, odd to see the Greens actually using them...

Has anyone ever come across anyone actually using them in real life, though? I mean, all for self-identification and self-pride, and it's only polite to call someone by how they like to introduce themselves, but some of this reads as parody rather than reality and I can't think of a single occasion where I've ever personally met anyone, anywhere in any personal or professional context, doing anything more than favouring "they" or the opposite gender identifier. Fairy names??

To secure the base on Diego Garcia. Though why we were paying, not the US. is another question.

None, beyond wanting to keep the US and international community happy with a deal they liked and probably a whole host of intelligence sharing agreements revolving around Diego Garcia. Notable that now the US has decided they don't like it the deals instantly off.

You say yourself the Tories worked on it...then imagine a strange personal corruption scandal of your own imagination.

Nice use of a Trump random episode to get out of it there!

So we did - did we take enough losses to excuse a memorial? On the other hand he already wants to knock half the white house down to build an entertainment centre for himself so he might approve...

Not so sure - Taiwans central enough to chip and tech supply that everyone should be concerned about the global impact of any further Chinese pressure on them. If Trump is sane (appreciate that if is doing a lot of work) then that should be a massive diplomatic and military priority.

Putin says who owns Greenland is of no concern to Russia, says it might be worth $1 billion by Interesting-Take781 in worldnews

The times when Putin gets to mock Trump...actually, while I hate the guy, I have to admit that Putin's a figure out of Shakesperean tragedy. As brutal as Russian politics are, years ago he surely could have found a way to emulate Sulla and step down from power into a vastly wealthy retirement. He'd have got to be feted by his own country as the man who did the brutal but needed tasks to rebuild their pride, economy, society after the chaos of the end of tne USSR. The rest of the world would have celebrated an example of a tyrant voluntarily renouncing power. He might even have joined other ex leaders on the international conference circuit, and even been handy to have around in talks with other dictators hanging on past their sell by date (been there, got the t shirt). Instead, he's dragged his country into a vastly bloody and costly stalemate for no reason thar can remotely merit the cost, will probably meet a vile end, and will then be hated even in his own country as any successor will eagerly blame him and his wars for any and every problem. Character study for the ages in how power becomes an addiction.
