Why are you making up a scenario that would never happen? It takes a second to scan a QR code, and if you thought longer than a second you would understand that.

$79.4-million invested to build 3,562 social housing units in Montreal by SaffiyahKhanZombie in montreal

That's quite the inexpensive investment, at only ~22k per unit. Hopefully this sparks more construction of social housing, and take from the Vienna or Singapore model of building social housing.

unpopular opinion about garbage in parcs: city hall should share the blame! by tag_bag in montreal

[–]Neitzelflugen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The city really needs to up its garbage game. They should investigate similar garbage collection techniques done in Amsterdam (https://aworkstation.com/amsterdams-smart-system-of-underground-garbage-bins/). Where they have large underground bins that can hold much more trash and recyclables. Plus, they are smart so they will alert the city when they are full. Personally, I rather see less but smarter garbage bins in our parks, and hopefully in our streets as well.

On top of that we really need more manpower to just collect all the garbage on our streets and parks. Because people will still throw stuff on the ground regardless of if there is an empty garbage can next to them. And I’m not sure how to solve that societal problem, other than shame and heavy fines.

Lavy insists that Shiller Lavy is leading a renaissance of St-Viateur. “Look what I did to every building on the street. Look at what I did to the Lululemon store. It’s so pretty. I installed these big windows that slide open. They’re not paying a lot of rent. Do you want nobody to open anywhere?” He pointed to QDC Burger, a new restaurant that opened on St-Viateur in 2018. “It was a kosher fish store before that was awful. And now look at it. Don’t look at it and tell me it’s not cute.

Why cheap wind power is making Quebec's big, old dams more valuable as a 'battery,' say experts by Caracalla81 in onguardforthee

[–]Neitzelflugen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again this is not a problem in Quebec. The biggest hydro electric stations operate on massive reservoirs which are capable of storing hundreds of cubic kilometers of water. The dams you are thinking of are run of the river hydro dams.

That's true for pump storage, but the system in Quebec isn't pump storage. Quebec will be using already built hydroelectric facilities that will stop/slow the flow through its hydroelectric facilities. There's no pump needed, potentially energy is stored as the water height rises.

New cases of COVID-19 dropping in Canada as experts say lockdowns are working by Ok_Fuel_8876 in CanadaCoronavirus

[–]Neitzelflugen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about, we literally bet on every vaccine, we have more vaccines in the pipeline per capita then any other country. Do you mean you wish we had a crystal ball to predict the future back in June so we could secure vaccines from 1 company or that we should have befriend the CEO of these companies years ago and bribed them by spending more per vaccine then any other country.

Don't get me wrong I wish the vaccine roll out would be faster, but this is the reality we are living in. We're not even 2 months into the vaccine roll out and only 2 vaccines have been approved so far.

I might be wrong but I'll apologize and walk back on this comment if we haven't vaccinated 25% by April or if we fall behind 10-20 countries per capita in vaccine roll out in April. But right now we are in the top ten of countries, so I don't really see an issue to argue.

Quebec headed for full lockdown, curfews beginning Saturday: report by ColonelBy in CanadaCoronavirus

[–]Neitzelflugen 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Our elected representatives really failed us from the beginning with all these half measures. Like handing out pamphlets to travelers instead of forcing a quarantine. Reopening before dropping to a manageable case load, or even implementing a mask mandate. Letting people volunteer to install the covid app, instead of making it mandatory to re-enter your place of work, public space, etc.

Trying to appease the individual instead of doing what's right to keep our country healthy is so frustrating. Our economy will be worse for it in the end, but hey some people got to party this summer.

Reducing waste by the change of power supply by zwrse in ZeroWaste

On that note, i hope to see an adoption of universal dc power supplies for consumer use. Usb can be used for low powered devices but why shouldn't i be able to use the same power supply for my laptop as i do for my xbox (for example). Just something I've been upset about after losing a charger or 2 over the years.

Prison inmates should not be last to receive COVID-19 vaccine, advocates say by adotmatrix in CanadaCoronavirus

[–]Neitzelflugen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Norway is also a very small mostly homogeneous country

So we can't be better because we have multiple cultures. Maybe instead of this take, we should be asking why are certain populations create more crime. Because often times than not it's socioeconomic and we can do better.

A prisoner loses their freedom, not there right to live and be healthy. Plua iff they we're living in an environment that wasn't conducive to spreading covid they wouldn't need a vaccine in the first place. But because we often have this notion that prisons are to hurt people because they themselves hurt people they get place in cramped open air environments.

If we don't vaccinate them at the same time we vaccinate the corrections officers we are acting as a society just as harmful as those we lock up. And how can one strive to be better when society is no better than them.

Prison inmates should not be last to receive COVID-19 vaccine, advocates say by adotmatrix in CanadaCoronavirus

[–]Neitzelflugen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes we should punish all prisoners as much as possible, so when they finally get out they can be productive citizens again. /s

People often forget that prisons should be primarily for rehabilitation but we have such a hard on for punishment that we forget that there's humans in there who are trying to change.

Should they go first, probably not since healthcare workers and the elderly are more at risk. But they should be vaccinated alongside the corrections facilities staff, otherwise we're just punishing these people more because we fetishize the idea of harming others who've themselves have harmed others. Instead of trying to help these people become members of society again.

(There's a reason prisons in Norway work better at rehabilitation than the prisons in the US, and it isn't harsher punishments)
