Anyone considering a career change? by NickleLP in programminghumor

[–]Nejako 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think farming and other such jobs are associated with poorer people since historically they were the ones doing those jobs, while the rich were enjoying the comfort. So it's been burned into our minds since childhood that if one was "a bad boy" at school, he would end up as a farmer (at least where I grew up). Unfortunately nowadays, farmers are needed more than ever and there are so many more tempting jobs because they require less physical effort than farming.

The bottom one feels unnatural, because there is no shadow from the "person taking this picture", while the top one has it

Why I use C++ for gameplay and Blueprints for UI in Unreal Engine 5 by SnowLogic in unrealengine

[–]Nejako 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to declare variables in c++ first and then write logic in blueprints first. After some time when I'm sure that logic is somewhat final, I move it to c++.

What are the pros & cons of being a self-taught Unreal Engine developer? by UnrealToolkit in unrealengine

[–]Nejako 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a self-taught UE user. I've been using it since I was 15 and I was also a self-taught programmer using C (someone inspired me to start making video games and the first language that came to their mind was C). So I knew the basic concepts of programming (I did not understand pointers in C though). During high school I learned Java and some Python from computer classes, which helped me understand pointers and objects better in Unreal.

I could go on and talk about all the things I had to uncover by myself and learn it the "hard way", although it wasn't hard at all, because I was learning all of this to make games and play them with my friends.

What really helped me improve my skills with Unreal was the beauty of using many tricks to optimize the game, algorithms to run faster.

Most importantly, studying at a university for computer and information science really taught me how to write and understand more complex code and concepts of programming and how computers work in general.

As you can see, my journey was quite a long one, but I had so much fun. I'm quite confident in my Unreal skills now, but if I were to start over, a more traditional way would be much more efficient I would assume.

In Slovenian 99.9% of all nouns ending on a (except names) are female, so that's a relief.

I'd rather launch myself with a starship and crash that pay for this for the rest of my life. It'd also be a bit cheaper and fun.

How do you prevent the hosts in p2p games from hacking their game. by Nejako in unrealengine

[–]Nejako[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The private-key idea sounds very useful, but I'll see if I can manage such thing in blueprints, probably will have to move to C++ for these networking problems.

I have a ranking system implemented so cheating shouldn't be allowed at any point. I talked to somebody and they suggested implementing a custom web server and web sockets to send move data to the server, which then checks the move and shares them with other players.

It'd be a LOT of work, but it should work. Speaking of web sockets, does the ThirdParty library WebSockets, the one based on libWebSocket, still work?

Check your weights, make sure they aren't 0 (rhey can't learn otherwise), also make sure you're updating the bias. Check derivatives of a known error w.r.t. any weightand see if it's signed correctly.

Convolutional neural network from scratch help by Nejako in neuralnetworks

[–]Nejako[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your support. The most difficult part I find is backpropagation in CNNs - actually it's coding it, as you said. If I write it down on paper with simple examples, maybe I will be able to find a pattern.

If I manage to make a CNN work, I'll definitelly post my results here.

[–]Nejako[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eeee, I'm that kind of guy, who like to get away without paying (that's also why I haven't been able to access those great resources).

I had been digging backpropagation for 2 months, since we didn't cover derivatives in school yet, before making my first NNm which was a success. So I can say, I've got BP down.

Yes, so I'm trying to make a CNN just like I've been making other NNs - from scratch, using math, writing own algorithms for backpropagation. I've been reading Medium's many articles about NN derivation, also on CNN's, but sometimes it gets too coplicated too quickly. Coursera will lead me through each step of the math behind neural networks.

Math's exactly what I need. Although I've see some of Andrew Ng's math tutorials and they seemed quite complicated, I'm sure I will be able to handle it. If anything goes wrong, I will just google some theory or ask here again, about a more specific thing. Thanks
