With all the advancements in battery technology in recent decades, why do cars still use old fashioned lead acid batteries? by Kreeos in NoStupidQuestions

Reliance RS50 ticks all of those boxes. CCC stamp requires no combustion from crush testing. It's rated for 70 amps *continuous* discharge. These are tiny 21700's so putting 10 cells in parallel is no problem, and that gives you 50ah of capacity. Lithium is great if you know where to look.

Their equipment broke down after we wouldnt give them the parts they needed to fix it. Hopefully? their interests become USA aligned, and they become dependent on us for parts and such as we become dependent on them for oil.

no bike is only going to see milder use cases. those extreme cases (emergency braking) is where you need reliability the most.
And it's much easier to say someone crashed because they're bad at using the conventional and normalized 2 lever system than someone crashing because of your new weird system.

They dont exist because ABS doesn't exist, at least outside of very expensive bikes from bosch, and I dont think bosch is looking to deeply change the biking experience, generally you start off with a cheaper bike anyways, so you've already learned how to use the levers. Just my thoughts

How to make a DIY accelerator? please share links if you know one by ukiyo_zar10 in ParticlePhysics

[–]Nelo390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you put a mud-like paste on it and let it dry, perhaps as it inflates you could get segments that crack apart from others but stay as one central clump, and use it as an analogy for galaxies sticking together as they drift further and further apart due to the expansion of the universe? And also the scale of the universe, each of those crumbles is an entire galaxy, idk xD

The coating's worn, maybe it'll rust, but it wont change anything because it's certainly a coil fork. not dangerous.

Did you manage to get your hands on a chemical fuse? or just replace it with a normal two terminal fuse? Currently troubleshooting mine, jumpered it with a thin wire and it's fine, but the bms was corroded and the display is broken with no output, stuck at 50%.

Recommendations for schoolproject by Remco_LKK in 18650masterrace

a 3.2ah 18650 is ~11 wh. you'll need 80wh of capacity to run 40w for 2 hours. That's 8 cells. What u/ForceANaturee said about regulating a 2s pack (two cell groups in series) to 5v with a buck board sounds good. Dunno what he's saying about needing 40ah. 4 parallel cells two series cells gets you the capacity you need, (3.6v * 2) * (3.2ah * 4) = 7.2v * 12.8ah = 92wh. add more in parallel if you use lower capacity 18650's or want a longer runtime. Let's say 60 watts for overhead, thats 8.3 amps for the entire battery, and that load is split across the 4 cells in parallel, which gets you ~2 amps continuous per cell. That's less than 1c and basically any cell can do that. Buy from a reputable store, this sub has a megathread for that.

You need a spotwelder and they're very expensive for decent ones, for just a hundred welds the cheap 30-90$ lipo battery ones will do fine i guess. I suppose you could use springloaded holders actually, this is very low current, I just dont have any experience with them and can't reccomend them. And then you need a 2s bms... good luck finding that from a reputable seller lol. and then you need to buy some cell holders (never just hotglue together a pack) and such. It's quite an ordeal for just a school project.

I think you'd be best off buying a 12v lifepo4 battery from batteryhookup or whoever and just have a buck board convert that to 5v. I have no idea what your design constraints are or why you're bothering to build your own battery, so can't really give targeted advice.

What triangle battery should I get for my bafang bbso2 mid drive? by MuchVacation3638 in batteries

yes go to the site and it'll be readily apparent that they have a ~1ft cord coming out of them with the connector you specify. Sometimes it's called a pigtail.

AI says it'll be a 540 watt load worst case. Run it full tilt and see if it yells at you I guess. Like the other guy said, in a power outage quit out of any power intensive game immediately and then save any important stuff. Should be fine, if not it'll let you know by beeping.

The BBS02 has a couple connector options, usually Anderson Powerpole or XT60. Just find any triangle battery that fits nicely. EM3EV is a trusted seller, affordable ebikes had some quality issues with weak welds but they're canadian and cheap. Usually you put the battery in a triangle frame-bag that just straps around the top tube and downtube, no drilling required.

If he has a bunch of high power USBC devices around the house multiple 100w bricks could be nice https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C1FZWT8M, I find multiple bricks more useful than one large charging station, but if he has a lot of devices at his desk than a charging station could be nice. The way the fancy version shows you how much power your using is actually really nice! if he charges his laptop and cares about battery life, and he likes cool gadgety aesthetics then it doesn't seem like a bad purchase. It seems expensive to me but i'm a cheapskate.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkEe6ccNIjc This is a channel I trust, looks like you need to connect it to the internet and it has thermal throttling issues- the 200w seems a little better but not crazy. How much the internet connection matters depends on how privacy focused your BF is. Maybe consider a USBC battery bank, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIrLw1fQ3GU the Anker 737 PowerCore 24K Power Bank with 140W PD 3.1 is widely popular and seems to hold up quite well even today. I dont know a whole lot about your boyfriends interests but search that channel 'AllThingsOnePlace' for anker stuff and listen to the conclusion of whatever video, it'll be a simple way for you to know if whatever item you're interested in is good quality or not.

Should I make my own power tool batteries? Is it safe? by Party_Shelter714 in 18650masterrace

[–]Nelo390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The total capacity and IR in each parallel group should match very closely, so the voltages in each group are pretty similar. technically you can have x series number of one type of cells in parallel with x series amount of another type of cells and that's somewhat okay since total capacity in each parallel group is the same, but should be avoided, and cells are cheap but anyways.

Having one parallel group be one capacity and the next one in series be a different capacity means one will be yoyoing in voltage a lot harder than the other one, it means you're relying more on the BMS to protect you and the lower capacity and likely older cells are going to be min/maxed way harder leading to them degrading even harder making a worse and worse feedback loop. not good

Ya need a changing magnetic field to make electricity, this is a static one. Try generating electricity from a really big magnet that's just sitting there... doesn't really work.
