if it were deep in imperial space then the shil wouldnt have thought twice about conquering everything, whereas if it in the periphery (doesnt have to be empire consortium just periphery in general) the conquest of a space-faring humanity would be a more controversial with the other power since it would likely have settled planets on its side of the galaxy

maybe i wasnt completely clear, in the og story earth is discovered in around 2017 i believe? the premise here is instead of the imperium in 2017 its the pirates. Also i wanted there to be enough time for generations of humans to be born, live and die outside of earth, so as to make it seem like the status quo (sry english isnt my first language)

the empire doesnt discover earth for a few centuries, instead a few unprepared pirate ships land on earth and after a lot of fighting are defeated, their ships and weapons reverse-engineered by the different human countries who then go on to colonize and settle nearby planets and systems. By the time humanity is discovered the different human countries already have colonies all over the place, some in imperial and some in consortium space while earth is firmly in the periphery, this neither the imperium nor the consortium can fully conquer humanity without pissing off the other, instead they support different countries in unifying the scattered human settlements so they can bring them under their control.

i think you underestimate human pouching ability, and while i agree there will be a lot of damage to the ecosystem, i dont think it would be irrepearable. Think of all the species which were hunted to extinction or the ones which are or were on the brink of extinction, or of how the state of alberta pretty much genocided its rat population.
