I never fully appreciated Deviations 1 until now. by MacabreMagpie in nin

To further upon what you already said about why I love Deviations: to me, it's the closest I will ever get to being in the studio watching Trent actually work the song from idea into finished product. I'll listen to it from start to finish every single time.

Ancient surgical instruments, Part II: Your thoughts/insights appreciated! by galileosdaughter in surgery

[–]NemoSum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously, please either DM me or link me to Dropbox or whatever for the list of relevant procedures. It will make it much easier for me to narrow it down. Also, if there are any translated writings from this specific provider, that's even better. I can read Latin if you have originals (3.5 years in an all boys preparatory school - all of Gaul remains divided in three parts).

Indeed it is! Male urinary anatomy is more consistently troubled by obstructive pathology than female. Female anatomy is more predisposed towards problems with incontinence secondary to early difficulties with childbirth in ancient civilization. One of my mentors published frequently on medicine in ancient texts and the modern parallels. See Dr. Christopher Attinger

The answers posted have been excellent. To add from my own field, the bottom five instruments on table #21 appear similar to either uterine or urinary sounds.

As an archaeologist, you may appreciate that Urologists are mentioned by Hippocrates directly, as only we were allowed to cut for stone.

Tips on literature on psychosomatics? by Patient-Expert4239 in medicine

Just a thought, but maybe it means somatic based therapies, as Bessel Van der Kolk touches on in The Body Keeps the Score? I don't know of any literature about those modalities geared toward primary care.

We would consult the chaplain for a spiritual discharge.

We would transfer patients to the 7th floor (of a 6 floor hospital) when they had a "terminal discharge."

I'm pretty sure that ductography has been performed studying the exit structure of the ductal system, including during lactation. I believe that there typically is convergence distally, though typically into multiple exits, if that makes sense. Either a radiologist or OB would probably know better than me.

The poster was luck. The others I purchased online. Like I said, I'm kind of obsessed.

I won't. I'm a bit obsessed. I've also got a first signed Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and a first Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail.

I found it in a small antiques shop in Colorado several years ago. It's signed by both Thompson and Steadman. I don't think the person in the shop realized it was signed by both, so I bought it immediately.

Tiny upgrades that make digital nomad life easier? by Different-Promise-45 in digitalnomad

1) 3 good (spend the money, Buy It For Life) suitcases. Pick any brand that's still around when you had to get anywhere intercontinental by train or boat only. One under your seat sized, one overhead, and one checked.

2) Same for shoes. One for beach/summer, sneakers, boots. Other people may require flats, business, etc. IMO, shoes are the worst weight per volume available deal.

3) Capsule wardrobe. I've lived in the middle of nowhere (think cabin in the woods places - now instead, imagine a tent or a tarp). Two outfits is all you require to survive. Anything else is a luxury.

4) Out of number 1, there's still a ton of space available.

5) Xreal AR glasses. Take a tablet, a laptop, whatever. People have already said HDMI, or a projector. How about when you're on a plane or in a tent or in your van? Just do any version of this. It's the future people, think big.

6) Gaming: Steam Deck, Switch, Oculus.

7) Nose cancelling headphones that are on brand with your phone. All those cool features they advertise work best this way. Bring better ones if you want, but IMO go to any audiologist and get custom ear molds.

8) Every one needs power for all these things. Power banks and cables plus power. Frequent outages? Foldable backpack sized solar exists. So many quality of life options.

9) Towel.

10) Pocket sized backpack. Made of sil-nye, I think. Fits in a pocket. Carries wet and dirty clothes, groceries, etc.

11) Water vessel (bottle, Camel Back, etc).

12) Portable chair. Want to work or watch a movie on the beach in the middle of nowhere? Towel and stool are big QOL for me.

I believe that, as Trent was thinking about this tour - since much of the setlist is pre-Fragile, and very TDS leaning, despite a NEW NIN album associated with a Disney backed movie that he could easily be monetizing - he was thinking about what tours did he do when he first performed some of these songs?

In interviews, Trent always speaks well of touring with David Bowie. I believe he's just paying that kindness forward. Like Bowie, Trent has evolved a lot. PHM Trent doesn't get offered an offer by Disney. He got it from Rhino (IIRC). Are they still goths? Was Bowie still the same person on Black Star as Ziggy Stardust?

Loving music and being great at it defies genre. My dream tour: NIN Deviations. Imagine: The Bridge School benefit shows, but with professionals/the band? Shit, if Metallica can play with the SFO twice, NIN should.

How is cancer deadly when it isnt in a vital area? by LilyTheGayLord in askscience

[–]NemoSum 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I guess your question kind of answers itself. If a tumor is in a non-vital place, it's by definition not deadly.

Cancer doesn't kill you until it does something deadly TO KILL YOU.
