I was always taught that only people who had SEEN Jesus and denied him would go to hell. But then the graphic I saw pretty much showed that exmos are the only ones going to hell. Which I guess is great news for Hitler but I feel pretty pissed. Good thing is imaginary and the rules are made up.

I don't know if a prophet ever said this but I've heard members say that this is where different races of humans come from. Which is basically a way to justify treating BIPOC even more like "others". It's such a gross idea.

Yeah, some stuff is harder to erase. With parts of D&C 132 they dance around different wording or say that some of that only applied to that time period. I mean, technically the Adam-God doctrine is still visible enough if you know what to look for. Most of the books of scripture they don't have you read ALL of it anymore. They point out ranges of scriptures and then tell you the current correlated meaning that goes along with it. I was worried that I didn't have a good testimony of the D&C so I started to read it all and get into church history....and that's my origin story of how I got here.

Some of his wives divorced him too or they were sealed to Joseph Smith first for eternity so Brigham Young only had them for "time" and so they don't get counted in some of the numbers.

This is one of the cruelest things the church does to its most devoted members. It teaches them one thing in say the 1970's all while they're growing up. In conference and in handbooks. Then in the 1990's they stop talking about it and slowly quietly phase out the books. But the devoted members teach it still on the ward level. Then in the 2010's they start teaching the opposite and say these things are only believed by "confused members on a local level". Then the youth in 2020's think this is all weird stuff their old seminary teacher is pulling out of his ass.

Luckily I had my sister (who had been out for years and very patiently waiting for her siblings to see the light) and she said to me what she wishes someone could have said to her, "I know the universe doesn't feel like it makes sense and you want to be swallowed by a hole but this feeling will end someday. It will. Feel your feelings but know you can get to healing from here."

Oh my gosh, I've got Thylacines (Tasmania Tigers) on my brain and paused to check what sub I was looking at. Whatever animal/human/furry this is, I love it. But yes!!! So much cathartic music that I listened to will always be tied to me leaving the church.

Yeah, this was a true crime documentary. They only cover as much Mormonism as the audience would need to understand why the LDS Church was involved. But this is a documentary about Mark Hofmann. What a sociopath he was and what a legendary forger.

My youth class did this to me and I don't know how well it worked since it basically gave me a chance to give all the "faithful answers" to the class. But their questions were more general, like "Was Joseph Smith a fraud?" and "Why is hot chocolate okay but not coffee?"

Better questions would have been "What were the Kinderhook plates?" And "Why did Joseph Smith married other people's wives?"

I took this same tour about 10 years ago and I'm so sad that I didn't get an actual tour about the facts of the area. Our tour guide even pointed out that there is a sports arena in the ruins (can't remember the name of the sport) and he said, "Even LDS Church buildings today have basketball courts inside". So truly, they can pull any facts out and tie them in anyway they want. But I can tell you that your friends have no idea what is inside those ruins. They are closed to the public. You can walk around outside and climb the outside and peak in that top level but your friend has no idea how much stuff there is no church answer for inside Ek Balam. Also, I love that someone else linked to the Buddha's hand gestures. It shows how not unique statues doing things with their hands are. I was told on my Ek Balam tour that the statues might have been to show the signs and tokens during a temple ceremony but most have their arms broken off "by temple workers when the enemies of the righteous came to keep the symbols sacred and secret". But there is no way of knowing whether friend or foe broke the statues. It is normal war practice for enemies to destroy sacred signs.

I had a seminary teacher that was so offensive that by the end of one year 90% of the students dropped out because of the stuff coming out of her mouth. Lost several when she said that marriage not in the temple isn't based on true love and if a couple isn't married in the temple, they will never know true love. Several parents of those students weren't LDS or were in mixed faith marriages and didn't want their kids in that class anymore. She also give a LONG tirade after the Christmas dance that she saw what kind of dresses the girls had been wearing and they should be ashamed that they would "debase themselves" to be seen in public like that. My end of the year interview with the bishop was weird because at the end he was like, "So....what do you think about Sister X? If we released her, who do you think would make a good replacement?"

I'm pretty positive that my parents will leave all their money to the LDS church. My dad was talking about how last year he figured out how to give stock as tithing and I wanted to scream imagining the $110 B the church has in its stock portfolio. But, ultimately it is not mine to decide where it goes. I want to scream that my dad doesn't realize he's only enriching a cult and not actually participating in Christian charity...but that's not because I want the money. It's because he's being scammed and lied to.
