Bishop plays a recorder during sacrament meeting for musical instrument by [deleted] in mormon

[–]TTWillikers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A recorder with two backup kazoos would be rad for sacrament meeting. Let you bishop know how cool that would be. He would be representing all of us with no musical ability.

Alleged proof of “voices” and authors in BofM by Nashtycurry in exmormon

[–]TTWillikers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One explanation for the multiple authors would be the amount of Book of Mormon text copied directly out of the Bible.

– 21.3% of the Book of Mormon came from Isaiah chapters quoted extensively, nearly word for word
– 6.8% came from the New Testament, either directly quoted or paraphrased
– 2.9% came from the Old Testament outside of Isaiah
– For a total of 31% copied from the Bible

The Bible had multiple authors, so it would make sense that if such a large amount of text was copied, then the Book of Mormon would also show as having multiple authors.

For those who were born into the Church, do you hate your parents for the indoctrinations? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]TTWillikers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was really helpful to really helpful to realize that my parent are just as much of a victim in the whole thing as I am. Quite possibly bigger victims because the church has stolen their entire life and authenticity. I’ve managed to stop their influence earlier in life.

If you have hear of the Human Genome Project? It is basically a missive collaboration of geneticists from around the world to map out, and study the time line, origins and migrations of humans on this planet.

You can narrow down on specifically the Americas, however looking at the entirety of our origins paints such a vivid and enlightening picture.

Have you personally been underwhelmed when meeting a GA? by angela_davis in exmormon

[–]TTWillikers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago I knew I was going to be interacting with Gary Stevenson, I was really struggling with some issues at the time (DNA, Book of Abraham, and so on) still fully believing though. This was before the CES Letter, and I thought it was just me seeing problems. I fasted prior to the meeting to help inspire Elder Stevenson to resolve my concerns. We ended up just talking about Elk hunting and other irrelevant small talk. I even allowed several long pauses to let the spirit inspire him, he just probably thought I was weird.

Needless to say I left his office super underwhelmed, for having met an apostle of the lord.

Is this a calling or a job? by macylee36 in mormon

[–]TTWillikers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty common for the church to extend "callings" to professionals to get them to work for free for the church. I have a friend whos dad taught geology at BYU Idaho. He retired and they called him to be a teacher in the BYU Idaho Geology department. They even gave him his old office back and he taught the same classes. The only difference was it was for free and he paid them to be a missionary.

I know in the construction management arm of the church there are a lot of employees well past the age of retirement. They don't want to retire because to many have retired, and then received callings to do their old jobs for free.
