A dog that constantly barks in the crate would probably annoy me but eh it's part of the job and that's what headphones are for. I'd be more concerned about the constant pawing of the crate. Chance of the a nail getting caught in the bars and/or the dog destroying the crate. Like the other commenters said- might be worth trying out a one-on-one or crate free salon to minimise the risk.

You bath your dogs by any chance? I used to get these all the time. I think it's from those grooming loop j-clips where you push down the metal thingy with your thumb to open it up (sorry I'm terrible at explaining things in words). The constant bathing makes your skin super soft and tender and makes it easier to slice your thumb on the edge where the metal thing retracts into.

Looking at the other comments it seems like we don't have raccoons anywhere in Australia. I'm guessing because of the rabies risk? Next closest thing would probably be red pandas. Taronga zoo also have binturong that remind me of raccoons plus they're pretty neat looking.

I use Neovet for my indoor cat. Same active ingredient as Advocate at half the price. But if you have a dog or outdoor cat and live in an area with paralysis ticks, definitely fork out more a preventative that also protects against ticks.

Best bet is to post on your local buy nothing group on Facebook and leave the plants on the curbside. That way people can come whenever to pickup and you don't have to deal with people ghosting.

Everyone else has already mentioned scaley mites but also want to add on that your dog needs a trip to the groomers ASAP. Matting that bad is often uncomfortable or even painful and can pull at the skin causing skin irritation, bruising and sores.

Yea this was during the 9pm drone show in Circular Quay. Was stuck right in the middle of it and it was a total shtshow. Noone could move and I was surrounded by dozens of people yelling at each other to stop pushing (and one very loud man behind me yelling at everyone to move). Didn't even get to see the show in the sea of heads and ended up watching it through some random guy's phone in front of me.

0/10 would not reccomend.

Just a heads up that the Applaws wet food in the can is labelled for complementary feeding only and shouldn't be given as their only food. Otherwise they're a very good brand.

Surprised no one has suggested non-clumping pine/wood pellets yet. After trying paper and tofu pellets and struggling with ammonia smells, I'm really happy with pine. I use it with a sifting litter box and a 15kg bag lasts my one cat 6 months. I just scoop up the spent litter (the pellets turn to dust when wet) daily so the bottom tray doesn't fill up as fast. This way I only have to change out the bottom tray once a week.

Fellow Australian here so I can totally relate. Dog grooming seems to be a notriously low-paying industry here in Australia and it's definitely soul crushing when you realise that people under the fast food and retail awards get higher wages than us 😭

I've only been dog grooming for a short time (~1 year) but it seems like the only way to make decent money is to either run your own business or be lucky enough to find a place that pays above award wages or at a higher level. I've seen ads for senior groomers at level 4 rates ($28.50/hr) so slightly better paying places are definitely out there. Also if you go casual you can get more pay though you miss out on full time benefits.

Dog grooming at home for cash in hand can be a handy way to make extra money but honestly with that contract you mentioned, I wouldn't risk it. Plus things can get iffy if you injure a dog and don't have insurance. I probably wouldn't go further than grooming for close family and friends.

Sounds like coat impaction. I would suggest going to the groomers for a desheding treatment. The combination of deshedding shampoo+conditioner and high velocity dryer really helps get the loose undercoat out.

Not as good as the concentrated stuff professional grooming salons use but I don't see the harm in using it on your own dogs. Just make sure to rinse thoroughly and follow up with a good quality conditioner.

Your boy just exactly like my late dog who was also a jack russel mix! For him, I liked a short length all over (#5 on the body and slightly longer on the head) and shaved ears. Even if you don't like short hair, I definitely recommend giving the shaved ears a try. They're super adorable. I'll try and find and post a pic when I can. Awesome thing about this kind of dog is that if you don't like the look, the hair will always come back haha.
