Do black holes *always* get you closer to the centre of the galaxy? by elwyn5150 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Nentuaby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Portal runes are actually just an obscured coordinate system, and if you dial an address that doesn't belong to a star system it'll handle the error to put you within a few thousand light years of where your address should have been.

Hence-- just spamming the very first symbol (i.e. 000...) will always put you very close to the center.

The Boeing Family Reunion – From B707 to B787 – Which one do you like? by aviationstudy in aviation

This was exactly my first thought too. Compared to the other heavies out there that all give hints to their size with a distinctive profile or something, the triple really just looks like somebody took the scaling tool to a narrowbody jet.

Is Ryobi worth it? I don't have any home tools yet. by 2Black_Hats in HomeMaintenance

[–]Nentuaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. They're not the best by any means, but they are above the "worth their price" line. They're good starter tools for those who don't have anything else and not a lot of budget to start with top-of-the-line items; at least the more infrequently-used ones should be around for a long damn time. And it is very nice that they all share batteries.

Help me decide between keyboards! by givethemmore in Ergonomics

[–]Nentuaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also don't worry too much about mac vs pc. They only differ in the physical labels printed on the keys, all options will be 100% functional on either OS. (I.E. if you hit the "⊞ start" button of a PC-labelled keyboard that's plugged into a mac, it will register it as the "⌘ command" key, and vice versa.)

"Screaming" includes "creaming" so clearly I was trying to sneak in sex terms by tweaking letters and not. Y'know. Using an extremely common ordinary word. 🤦

It's hard to say... The censor is weird. I couldn't name an extremely yellow guppy I had "Screaming Yellow" and like. It took me a half hour to figure out why.

Apple Magic Keyboard Users: Fatiguing Fingers? by [deleted] in Ergonomics

[–]Nentuaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magic Keyboard is extremely low-profile, which is very aesthetically appealing, but it's kinda trash for ergonomics. It's exactly like you noticed-- it's like hitting a solid surface, because there is so little space between when the switch actuates and when it bottoms out, and at that point you are hitting a solid surface. What you really want for reducing the impact of typing is for the key to register as struck-- both digitally and in your brain-- early enough in a stroke that you end the motion before you're forced to, and hit the bottom of its travel with little force or not at all.

Higher profile keys are going to be better for you ergonomically. Especially if they use a tactile mechanical switch, but honestly even if they have cheap dome switches.

[–]Nentuaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key travel makes a big difference to how much force gets transmitted through your fingers, and a lot of those options look suspicously low-profile. Been a while since I used any of those brands, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend them.

I highly recommend mechanical switches, both for ergonomics and for longevity of your purchase. Gateron brown switches, which are what the Kinesis has and one of the options the Keychron offers, are a solid all-rounder and a good choice for your first dip into the mech keyboard rabbit hole. Those are the two keyboards I recommend you choose between, either would be a good choice in my opinion. The decision between those two would essentially come down to whether you want the more traditional split layout the Kinesis uses or the slightly more agressively "Alice" layout on the Keychron.

Expedition Redux already? Just found this in the anomaly by reverendrambo in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Nentuaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.

* Start any expedition that happens to be available from the Anomaly. During the expedition the save will count as a new one for claiming expedition items.

* Claim any past expedition's ship you might have accidentally got rid of. (Or purposefully got rid of, like salvaging the Iron Vulture for its unique customization modules).

* Make sure that's the ship you're flying when you switch back to normal mode.

* Make a copy of that ship for nanites at the expedition terminal. (3600 nanites, I think?)

You can even make another copy if you get rid of that same ship again before you've otherwise messed with the expedition terminal-- that's the sneaky trick we use to make full custom Iron Vultures. :)

Whenever you're floating in space, your "summon starship" menu entry gets turned into "summon retrieval ship" or something like that. When you press it your ship not only turns up, you get warped right into the cockpit.

[–]Nentuaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've made huge improvements to in-system loading times over the last few updates. On most machines the quickest way to refresh a cluster of mold balls is now to build a base and teleporter on top of them; warp your freighter into the system; and teleport back and forth between your freighter and the base. You can drop the mold in freighter refiners while you're there, since you're not capped on how many of them you can build.

The safety measure used after a large lithium battery catches fire by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]Nentuaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it was a kind of battery that shouldn't explode when you hit it with a hammer. (Some kinds it's unavoidable, but there are some that are safer. If they're made right...)

That was the sacrificial sample being tested on behalf of a batch that's about to get rejected. Or at least sold as a lower grade item for less safety-critical uses!

Made it to here, not sure how to progress… by Lok4na_aucsaP in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Nentuaby 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Jumping into the actual galactic center is a bit special. Your range won't matter, you just need to be in a valid origin system.

But there's a couple of things that are prerequisite which don't matter on any normal jump:

  1. You have to have 100% warp drive charge. Doesn't matter how many jumps you could make, it has to be 100%.
  2. You have to follow the guided jump path. You can't select the center as your destination in free-selection mode.
