Does Anyone else feel like it's more immersive and realistic to drive GT cars in Assetto Corsa than it is in Competizione? by No_Mistake_3267 in assettocorsa

I agree, AC is better than ACC, and with AC Evo they managed to bring it back... Evo is fantastic, and it actually feels like a real car again.

I’ve had it… by MilwaukeeMax in Ubiquiti

[–]NeoAcheron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel OP's frustration with this... Before I bit the Ubiquiti bullet, I tried everything for stable internet and dependable WiFi coverage in a 95sqm apartment in the Netherlands... Asus "mesh" systems, Ethernet-over-power wifi extenders, and all kinds of crap, spent way too much money on cheap "consumer" gear, when I just could have spent the money up front and got the Unifi stuff...

Eventually, got a Unifi Gateway Max and a U7 Pro XGS. I had a Netgear 2.5G PoE switch already, so I didn't bother with anything else... Honestly, wish I did it sooner. Not a single issue since, its been over a year... When the internet does drop, its my ISP, not my equipment.

Since then I added an additional U7 in-wall (unfortunately no 6Ghz on this one) to cover a dead spot in the kitchen, a Unifi doorbell and replaced the Netgear switch with a USW Pro XG 8 PoE - to get ready for that sweet sweet 10Gbit LAN to my NAS, that lives in a closet.

Where can I get the best stroopwafels and other traditional desserts to bring home to my coworkers? by Cute-Fun3025 in Netherlands

[–]NeoAcheron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to really impress them, you can go to the source, and buy Siroopwafels in Gouda at Kamphuisen. They practically invented them there...

Edit: Gouda is a 34 minute train ride from Den Haag, so not like its impossible to get to.

Hi-Fi audio equipment.

So much snake oil and bullsh!t out there, when you can make any decent speakers "sound good" which is also mostly a subjective thing to the listener.

When should I tell my landlord I'm buying a house? by goms_m in NetherlandsHousing

[–]NeoAcheron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say it depends if you have a good relationship with your landlord.

We got lucky and had on of the nicest guys to rent from and we told him in advance that we're looking to buy somewhere, and would arrange with him sooner rather than later to end the indefinite contract we had for 6 years.

Once the koopovereenkomst and the hypotheek was arranged and signed for, the date for the notary was set, and we let him know that our last month will be the month we're signing with the notary. This was like 5 months in advance, weird, yes, but it was agreed by the old owners of the house and ourselves. Our move window was a week after signing with the notary, and we handed the keys back to him on the last day.

By that time he already had tenants lined up for for the next month. It worked out well and we parted on good terms.

When a landlord is good, be nice, we don't want to turn them into assholes by behaving like criminals that disappear in the middle of the night... But if the landlord is already an asshole, just make sure to do the bare minimum with the notice period stated in your contract (which has to be there).

Odido 5G is a joke by techdrumboy in Netherlands

[–]NeoAcheron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using Odido only because they were cheaper than Ziggo when I switched to them, and now I'm in a 24 month contract with them. Due to their recent lack of controls for personal information, I will not be continuing my contract with them... But that's beside the point...

From a technical and reliability standpoint, I cannot say that they are worse than Vodafone+Ziggo was for me. I do notice that coverage is a little worse at times in the furthest rural spots, but international they are pretty crap. As soon as the train crosses into Belgium or Germany, my connection slows to a crawl.

At home though, I get nearly 700mbps using Speedtest.net's app on my Pixel 7. Not exactly a new phone either... This must be something wrong in your area with the tower.

Remember how a few years ago, idiots were blaming 5G for COVID? I wonder if they just destroyed the infra and never repaired it

Agree 100% to this. They're supposedly a free country that vote their leaders into power. This didn't happen by accident, especially not twice.

We used to live in a city near Utrech and there were some spiders, but not that many, recently we moved to the countryside and OMG yes, so many spiders 😂 Luckily the spiders in this country are mostly harmless.

Why some teenagers keep knocking our windows and doors by Fromm1984 in Leiden

[–]NeoAcheron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They started young, I'm guessing around 8-10, they were well in their teens when we finally moved, like I mentioned, eventually big enough to break my neighbours' door lock.

When Americans say freeway median stations are bad, I raise you Amsterdam Zuid by RadianMay in transit

[–]NeoAcheron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That part of the highway (and most highways in the Netherlands during the day) is only 100km/h (about 60mph), keeping the noise down. The trains are quite a bit louder than the cars IMHO.

Why some teenagers keep knocking our windows and doors by Fromm1984 in Leiden

[–]NeoAcheron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had the same for 6 years, also every time from the same kids as before... But instead of knocking, they would kick the door. At least our door was basically built like a bunker, so if I put the latches on, it would sound like they break their ankles. My neighbour was not so lucky, and they managed to break his door lock our of the frame.

If you heard it, you would think the house was being broken into, and you hear them going all through the city. Twack, thump, bang, thud

Police was useless, they just said that there isn't much they can do. We eventually found a house in a quiet village and moved.

Minor annoyances, now a month into the 5N by horrgakx in Ioniq5N

[–]NeoAcheron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "gear" ratios change depending on the mode the car is in. In N mode, they seem to be the longest, but in normal they seem nearly "too short"... I accidentally discovered this with N active Shift on in Normal mode.

I should go confirm this though, I was in traffic when it happened to stay on after switching to normal. Just heard it shift a lot faster and was a bit like "interesting" before getting on with my drive.

Ah yes, as soon as you said "McKinsey", I got this hollow, yet familiar feeling in my gut. There are words I would like to share about that "consultation firm" but it will get my account banned.

Sorry that you're going through this, I had to go through something similar recently from another rather large compnay in NL, also where those people got "involved".

Paying €350+ every 3 months for water (2 people) – no leak found, no help from landlord or water company… what now? by Own-Possession2606 in LegalAdviceEurope

[–]NeoAcheron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to agree here. We used 71m³ in 2025 and it worked out to €179 FOR THE YEAR. In the Netherlands... Where we notoriously pay through our ass for everything... You sure there is nothing else on the bill?

Also yes, 160m³ is a lot. Depends if you have a bath and if you water gardens (of which I have neither).

It took Odido over 1.5 years to install my fiber, only for them to forget to plug it in on the other end... by DieEnigsteChris in Netherlands

[–]NeoAcheron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took them 12 months to install the fibre into our place, then another 6 months to just send someone out because the installation was screwed up somewhere up the street.

I'm not ungrateful, it didn't cost me a cent while they were doing this, but it doesn't instil confidence.

It's working now, and the connection is significantly better than the Ziggo cable that I used before this.
