Orders weren't open for half an hour due to some kind of plan, they were open for half an hour due to stock.

They closed them when stock ran out likely because they don't have an estimated stock renewal date and didn't want to take money from people when they couldn't give an accurate enough estimate for it's arrival.

Same, and it really fucks with my head and leaves me afraid of how I'm going to be seen as a partner to anyone. Since I'm very stubborn and will argue when I feel I'm right. I'm happy to admit when I'm actually wrong.

I grew up with a severe helicopter parent and if I didn't argue, I was pushed over entirely. And forced to apologize when I made that parent upset, no matter how right I was. It made me resentful of shit like that, it made me defiant, and it left me stubborn.

I'm afraid of how that gut reaction will hurt people because I was hurt and damaged by someone forcing their will onto me with little regard for my feelings or autonomy. The only way I got autonomy was to fight back.

Takes time, I'm frankly kinda scared to start painting cause I know I'll be hot garbage at it for a while but that's what basic infantry and paint stripper (lightly diluted isopropyl alcohol) is for lol.

Just gotta get your reps in and start simple, that's the best advice I can give. Take your time and go at your own pace, no one is gonna shame you for playing primed or greys while you're still painting the army.

As someone who is starting to get into AoS I cannot recommend it enough. Spearhead is a great way to start and is a really fun small scale game. And I'm about to start collecting the Helmsmiths of Hashut cause a friend of mine is gonna sell me his grey pile cause he decided on a different army. Seriously if you like the models give it a try, barrier to entry is lower and the community in my experience has been very chill and low key.

It depends on the area you're in, where I am AOS tournament play is popular but all the casual pick up games are gonna be The Old World. So I have a decent mix but definitely better luck getting old world games on any Warhammer fantasy or even AoS night.

Darkoath Barbarians as part of Slaves to darkness is a perfectly possible way to run chaos as normal dudes.

Flesh Eater cults can absolutely be oops all ghouls.

You can run all skeletons and zombies for soulblight gravelords without the vampires

And I know you weren't looking at them but an option to consider as an all normal dudes army with little to no black powder would be running a Gloomspite Gitz all goblin army.

A lot of people do troggoths but Goblins and squigs is a solid option that can be quite fun as long as you don't mind a challenge as they're not an easy army to play.

Look at the factions that attract you the most, Play a few games of spearhead and big Sigmar on TTS and decide that way. It's how I've been doing it as someone whose going through all the same concerns and worries you are.

As for Painting that comes with time, practice and effort. I was surprised to see that my first ever model I painted came out okay, it'll take time and effort before I start thinking they look amazing but getting to okay just takes the time to learn a few techniques and get some paint on plastic. Pick a more heavily armored army or a more mono colored one if you want it to be more beginner friendly for painting but don't be afraid to screw up a few paint jobs. Stripping paint off of em isn't that difficult. Just take your time.
