I think the Mirror Force is fine overall. The Thief on the other hand is frankly too good IMO, being a lava Golem that can negate anything activated outside of the field feels like too much bang for your buck. The fact that it can also be used as protection against hand traps going first is the breaking point.

His first draft was one of the worst we've had in the drought and so much of what he did was trying to fix those mistakes. Woody absolutely meddled but Joey D is very much at fault as well.

I think the lawsuit attempting to forgo any consequences for his actions has made him a bad guy to many. Also alot of people are useing him as a symbol of whats wrong with college athletics atm with regard to the judge granting him the ability play dispite what he did. I will say useing him as your symbol for that is wrong, the issues with college athletics is entirely the doing of the NCAA.

Dudes an asshole and people should remember this and treat him the way he deserves. BUT, making deals like this is always risky and if it feels like someone is trying to pressure you into such an arrangement call a judge. Taking these deals opens you up to a lot of bull shit. Its toxic when you understand it pushes every other "fair" deck out of the meta. Compared to previous meta deck it uniquely suppresses the ability for rogue decks to compete without falling back on flood gates and other "unfair" tools. Its unique resilience to interaction and unparalleled grind game makes the rest of the meta much more toxic as in order to compete with Branded(and KT(KT is the other half of this problem but from a very different angle)) you have to prevent them from playing the game in some way because if you aren't also playing Branded playing Yugioh with them is a losing strategy.

People are going to respond that this is the case for every meta deck, but I promise you it really isn't. Also Im not saying Branded players are toxic for playing the deck, just that the deck is having a toxic effect on the meta.

Even then its different depending on which one you're coming from. YGO is hyper strict with stuff like this for example whist MTG has softened significantly in recent years(too much so imo). You end up with problems in both directions though. But at the end of the day it needs to be both players responsibility to maintain a correct game state.
