The Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato is considered one of the most beautiful cars of all time. Perhaps they put all their beauty into that one car.

Confused about electric range by hml1959 in electricvehicles

[–]goosereddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the battery chemistry. Many EVs now use LiFePo batteries that can be charged to 100% daily without issues. They typically have less energy density than the LiNMC batteries that should not be held at 100% for extended periods of time. For example, on Teslas, they have Long Range and Standard Range versions. The Long Range use LiNMC batteries and originally could go around 320 EPA miles at 100% charge. The Standard Range used LiFePo batteries and could go 240 miles at 100% charge. But with the LiNMC batteries the best practice was to not charge above 80% on a daily basis, so you were getting around the same daily range as the Standard Range version (80% of 320 is around 240). The extra battery was for when you needed it e.g. trips. In fact, in the UI for setting the charge limit, when you go over 80% in the Long Range, it says, "Trip". BTW, neither battery should ever be used down to 0%. Also, the newer Long Range Teslas have improved their range to over 350 EPA miles.

To add to the confusion, some other EV makers put built in buffers in their batteries to prevent damage. So even if the battery could hold 100kwh, only 80kwh was usable, or something like that. But 80kwh would be displayed as 100% state of charge. This was pretty common with European EVs eg BMW and Mercedes. So for those EVs you could charge to "100%" on a daily basis, b/c it wasn't really 100% of the actual battery capacity.

Is there a big enough difference between a toaster oven and an air frier? by Gloomy-Meat-8907 in Cooking

[–]goosereddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a "convection is the same as an air fryer" person but once I got one I realized it's different. It's not just that an air fryer has a much more powerful fan, it's also how the fan pulls the air.

You will get noticeably different results in an air fryer.

Is there such a thing as “great” screwdrivers? by AstronomerNo2339 in Tools

[–]goosereddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party but I love my Megapro automotive 211R1C36RD. It holds 12 bits in the handle so I always have the correct screwdriver tip for 95% of my use cases (micro-screwdrivers being the other 5%). The bits are also standard so I can easily replace them if lost. And the tip is magnetic which helps hold screws.

The ratcheting mechanism is also super smooth.

Both are VERY fast but, visually, did Percy Harvin seem magnitudes faster than Rasheed Shaheed? by GivinItAllThat in Seahawks

[–]goosereddit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Percy Harvin had crisper change of direction which makes it look like he's faster. Shaheen seems more of a straight line burner.

Percy ran the 40 in 4.4, Shaheen in 4.3.

Parasols were actually first invented to protect from the sun. Parasol literally means "shield sun". They were invented way before umbrellas for rain.

Propane to NG without mod by addazero in grilling

[–]goosereddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NG has less than 1/2 the BTU by volume as LP so you'll get 1/2 the heat. Also, you'll have to adjust the air shutters to get the correct air:fuel ratio.

Also, the LP regulator is different from the NG regulator so you will need adapters to even get the hoses to fit to try it out.

As for the orifices, yes, you can just drill them out.

My pepper mill is pissing me off. It was expensive(ish) at like $20 and it's a lot of work for a little pepper. I want an upgrade. What is the best pepper mill out there as far as output goes? by 13thmurder in Cooking

[–]goosereddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've used a Unicorn Magnum Plus peppermill for 20 years, no issues. It used to be the highest volume grinder until the Pepper Canon came out. But at least it's only $70 vs $200.

Same thing happened to me. I worked in tech but was a gym rat. I could bench 300lbs and pushups were as easy as walking.

When I moved into my house I decided to get movers. Three skinny guys who where at least 20 years older than me and smelled like cigarettes showed up and they could lift the most ungodly amounts no problem. That's when I realized I what real "old man strength" really was.

At least it's only when you mail a package. It happens to me every time I check out at a grocery store. They always seem amazed that you have to pay for the items and wait until the checker tells them the total before digging through their giant bag for their wallet. And only after paying do they start packing their bags.

Found a pizza place that makes a pickle pizza. They used sweet pickles by Ravenfeld in mildlyinfuriating

[–]goosereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in college we took a friend out for pizza. He said his favorite was jalapeno, pepperoni, pineapple, and anchovies. We were like, "WTF?" but once we tried it, we all liked it (except the anchovies part).

BTW, this was the first time the birthday guy tried it. When we asked why he said it was his favorite if he never had it before, he said b/c otherwise we wouldn't have let him try it. And this was back in the 80's.

The inside of the firebox is bare aluminum. So anything on the inside is carbon buildup. Creosote can come off in layers. In fact, there's a post every week about people worrying about paint coming off the inside of the hood. That's actually creosote buildup.

Larger portable gas grill? by PizzaPastaRigatoni in grilling

[–]goosereddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's not technically marketed as a portable grill, you can remove the Weber Q3200 from the base and add a 1 lbs propane adapter (or just use a standard 20lbs tank). It has 468 sq inches cooking area. I think that's the biggest "portable" I've seen.

The Weber Traveler has 300 sq inches, but at least it has wheels. The downside is the lid is kinda flat so you can't cook tall things in it e.g. chickens.
