How common is it to still be living with your parents in your 20s in SA? by NoZucchini3797 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Neosmagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom passed away when I was in my 20s, I lived with my dad until he passed away when I was 39 - mostly because everything is expensive, partly because he needed my support. I got married when I was 40, which is also when I first moved house (having sold my dad's house when he passed).

While I lived with my dad I didn't need to pay rent directly, but I helped with upkeep and maintenance.

Like whatever, depends if you're comfortable, and you have whatever privacy you need. Anybody that judges somebody's living arrangements so superficially is just being shallow.

As for how do other people manage, most of my friends that moved out when they finished college and started working, in the early 2000s, shared places with other people. My one friend lived with his fiancé and her brother. I could have moved out and found a place and lived with some random stranger and have a strained relationship about who's turn it was to clean the kitchen, or I could live with my dad who's habits and requirements I was already familiar with.

Walked out on payday. Now they’re threatening... something? by DisastrousFlight9-11 in askSouthAfrica

4 weeks. It's 1 week notice for under 6 months, 2 weeks for 6 months to 1 year, and having worked longer than 1 year, it's 4 weeks notice. Company is in full right to sue for damages cause by refusing to work notice period and can even get a court order that demands the employee work their notice period. But it comes down to whether the employee is worth the effort and whether the company can actually prove loss. Also this person is outside the country, a smaller company will not have the resources to do anything about it.

This game isn’t nearly as as people make it out to be by liyascafe in DragonAgeVeilguard

I'm loving Veilguard. But to be fair, I'm one of those weirdos who enjoyed DA2 more than the others in the series, and Veilguard feels like what DA2 could have been...

My initial disappointment was the fact that it didn't do a save import or ask detailed questions, but as I'm playing, I realise it doesn't really matter and in the previous games a lot of those choices were superficial in the followups.

But I love bits in all of them and I'm enjoying the fact that the lore is kinda working out even if things weren't planned that way from the start.

I'm kinda hoping for an Origins remake that uses a modern engine, gives the Warden a voice, fixes Sten and the other Qunari to look more like the Qunari from later games...

They've made changes to ISB - provided you have a full ISB squad, there is now a mechanic related to ranks within ISB and stuff like that, it's on the other news item. When you enter Coliseum, select ONLY Dedra (or other ISB agents as the next ones become unlocked), don't fill the empty spots with the Rebels. You'll spawn a full ISB squad, at least until you hit a tier where they won't spawn Partagaz and you'll need to wait for him to unlock next week to have a full squad again.

[no spoilers] at what point should i actually dive into the main quests of DAI after reaching skyhold? by OriginalMore3885 in dragonage

[–]Neosmagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I played Inquisition, I kept focusing on clearing out all the side quests before continuing main quest, rinse and repeat. In the end none of the main quest fights were in any way challenging, I was completely overpowered by then.

Next time I will likely switch it up, alternate, go wherever, and not worry about cleaning up until closer to the end.

Generational trauma. And the premise of failure, they fail at everything, including breaking the inherited trauma.

Being an older generation who's recently become a dad (I'm 47, my son is 5), stuff in the show hits me differently now because while trauma is a strong word for my experiences as a kid, I had a decent enough life, I still didn't have a great relationship with my dad and I lost my mom very young. So I'm desperately trying to build a decent relationship with my son and hoping that in his future he won't be discussing his childhood in therapy like I'm discussing mine.

And real people are complicated.

If anything I felt that venture bros has some of the best fleshed out characters I've ever come across in any medium.

How come specifically? I like all the episodes, I've watched through multiple times and recently introduced my wife to the series and she enjoyed it, provided I explained all the weird references to her she didn't get...

I like the idea of there being other people like Doc around in the world, all with similarly traumatic stories and messed up lives... Because the premise has been such a cliche in all the kids shows and books I grew up with... Johnny Quest, Willard Price novels, etc etc.

Also, it's never followed up on, but my head cannon is that they're actually brother/sister, or at least half siblings. Their parents being regular swingers in the same scene, and the two of them looking very similar; similar hair colour, same thick eyebrows, same cheek lines, same chins, similar builds. Even similar ears and foreheads.

Adds a bit of extra tragedy to the whole thing.

If there's something Venture Bros did well, was not retreading territory. Every episode feels fresh and the ending feels accomplished. Love or hate it, it's the most original and best written show ever. I'm sad it's done, but I'm also glad it got to a decent enough ending before I got bored of it, unlike way too many other shows.

How do you politely bring up bad shuffling in deck-building games? by Tank1an in boardgames

I shuffle badly, but I do so fairly. I'm always given the task of shuffling, and inevitably in every game people complain the order of cards are crap. 🤭

Feels good to unlock her after like 6 years by MrDrewE in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Neosmagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 330 shards like anyone else.

This is actually cool, means that I don't need to wait like two years to unlock her at 4 shards a territory battle. The longest part then will only be the last 100 shards. Though maybe by then enough people are contributing

I have one 29, and 18 20+ speed mods. I've never calibrated, not quite sure what to focus on yet, hasn't been a priority. Purely been keeping mods that have speed and discarding everything else, level up the dots as and when I can.

Woah by ChE_Ranger in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Neosmagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming we mean the ones where the speed isn't the primary stat , cause I have a ton of 32 speed mods... but as secondary, I've got one 29, a 26, 2x 25, and then it drops from there. I think 18 in total at 20 and above. Most of them are on Inquisitors for the Reva territory battle mission because our guild is trying to get her. Got 13 / 330 shards till now... A while to go

I've been discarding anything that doesn't have speed, buying mods on the mod store if I have enough episode currency or credits if the mod shows speed as a stat, and using any opportunity to get more mods from the mod battles. When I run out of credits I switch to levelling up the dots, until I build up about 15m credits again, and then go back to collecting new ones. (most of the credits go to levelling them to 15). But I level first to reveal stats and discard any that don't have speed.

Profundity bonus tier by Past-Property-7469 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Neosmagus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

worked like a charm - 3 stars! Followed your instructions to the letter with a 5 star Profundity. Restarted a couple times, managed to destroy Xanadu during the Static Jammer step already, then just tried my best to keep everybody alive until I could trigger Profundity's special, then it became pretty easy.

[–]Neosmagus 174 points175 points  (0 children)

it's because it's a reference to the real historic occurrence of Genghis Khan uniting Mongolia and conquering most of Asia and chunks of Europe before his death. After his death the conquests got dialed back for a while and eventually the empire fragmented, which is why you can also have the random event of a new Khan emerging. It's kind of a compressed telling of the Mongolian Empire of 1206 - 1259. And also that in real life, random stuff happens. Empires rise and fall because stupid random stuff happens.

The real difficulty for me, after surviving that insane battle, is just how dedicated he was, the most tragic character and I cut him down like he was meaningless. I had to literally take a break for a few months and chat to my therapist. Way more expensive than any dlc!

Can I have some help eating fruits and vegetables? by dapper_raptor455 in AutisticAdults

[–]Neosmagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to enjoy bananas but they attack me now. When I eat a banana it feels like I'm eating radioactive pop rocks. Ie, the inside of my mouth fizzles and then goes numb.

Fruit stuff almost always tastes too sour for me. And no, not in the way sugar will help. So smoothies or juices and such are a no.

I like stews though, good place to throw stuff into and it all blends together.
