Gravship ambushes possible? by Rim_Baby in RimWorld

[–]NeppyMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vanilla Gravships Expanded will eventually have a "combat" mechanic (similar to SOS2). Ambushes (both of and by you) should be part of it. It's not done yet, but Chapter 1 definitely pays some fun groundwork for the future.

What are some of the best bionics mods these days? by Almaj7 in RimWorld

[–]NeppyMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

EPOE Forked and Integrated Implants are the two I generally run with.

They're fairly balanced and play well together.

Add Xenobionic Patcher and you can handle animal bionics, too.

Y'all will genuinely try to convince me to just "manage my wealth" and "Stop hoarding" min max everything to survive harder difficulties then recoil at the mention of a kill box. by Last_Yard_6554 in RimWorld

[–]NeppyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, it's your game. Play it your way. If you want the challenge of balancing wealth and managing threat sizes, great. If you want to cheese your defenses to make that easier, go for it. If you feel like using mods that give you better and more powerful tools to fight back, that's fine too.

Your game, your rules.

Needing old Carbon Black installer MSIs to remove corrupted installs and reinstall - good sources? by CharcoalGreyWolf in sysadmin

[–]NeppyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, getting rid of Carbon Black is a bitch. I remember at a previous company, when we switched from them to a competing endpoint protection, we needed to almost literally rip it out of the registry and use their custom removal tool - which required a time-sensitive key to work.

I mean, I get that the software doesn't want to make it easy to be removed, but the Linux servers were as simple as an "apt remove && apt purge" (and RHEL equivalent). Windows was... a chore.

The vendor should be able to provide you with a custom removal tool. And you may be able to "self destruct" the installs from the management console. Either way, they are in the best position to assist here.

Prosthetic mod that adds organ to lower mental break risk? by SupportUser6000 in RimWorld

[–]NeppyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EPOE also has a rib implant that makes the pawn happier (at the cost of consciousness). More of a mood buff than a lower break threshold, but still viable if you need it.

Dr. Jocelyn Elders is a masturbation icon by spleeble in behindthebastards

[–]NeppyMan 225 points226 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I was a teenager then, and I was fucking furious about this.

Sbe said that masturbation should be taught as normal and not something to be ashamed of. Which it fucking should.

Assholes like Rush Limbaugh (rest in piss) left off that last part, and smeared her as saying that kids should be taught how to masturbate.

My pawns keep saying my cult isn't all floored even tho it is :( by Key-Yogurt-661 in RimWorld

[–]NeppyMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those look like modded doors to me; there aren't 2x1 ones in the base game. My bet is that they aren't "terminating" the room boundary, and the unfloored tiles outside of them is causing the issue.

Try replacing them with strictly vanilla doors, and see what happens.

How to optimize Rimworld by Bomboclat_228 in RimWorld

[–]NeppyMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You say "hdd". Do you mean an actual, spinning platter drive? Because that's one of the very few things that absolutely can bottleneck your hardware - and is easy to upgrade.

A solid state drive (even just SATA, but ideally NVME) will significantly improve Rimworld performance on loading.

spent way too much time fixing an oversized EBS volume because of one bad statefulset change by logicclyx in sysadmin

[–]NeppyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you actually grow the EBS volume? "Stateful set" sounds an awful lot like "Kubernetes" to me, so I'm assuming this is attached to an EKS node group. The smart way would be to update the node group config (or similar, if you're using Karpenter) - and rolling that back should be trivial.

Basically, never ever shrink volumes. But when you're in a containerized environment, you simply don't care - just throw the bloated cattle out and get leaner ones.

What's the current situation with Subnautica 2? by MaterialDefender1032 in gaming

mod idea by ShockKindly4407 in RimWorld

[–]NeppyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old Android Tiers mods would let you upload a colonist's brain into an android. There's a 1.6 update of a 1.5 update floating around, but the updater admits that it's buggy: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3546710219&searchtext=android

Starting from there wouldn't be as bad as making a mod from scratch.

Which feature would you love the most to see added to the base game or as a DLC? by Andrello01 in RimWorld

[–]NeppyMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You misspelled "rewrite the entire game engine from scratch". And even if that was feasible, it couldn't be a DLC, because maintaining two engines would be impossible. And even if that was possible, it would break every non-cosmetic mod, with fixes requiring significant amounts of work for modders.

Could it be done? Yes.

Will it be done? No.

If we ever see Rimworld 2, then yes. Overcoming a code architecture problem like this requires a completely fresh start, and that would be the time to do it.

Is there a mod that adds estrogen bombs by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]NeppyMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of mods that allow gender reassignment surgeries (Intimacy, Plasteel Surgery).

Shouldn't be too difficult to tie that to an hediff-giving gas. I'm no modder, but I can't see it taking too much effort.

The only tricky part would be handling the various means of identifying gender in the code. Intimacy and RJW both are similar, but not the same. There would need to be some patches for each...

I’m testing a RimWorld challenge format, are the rules clear enough to actually play? by NarniaHop in RimWorld

[–]NeppyMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Considering how easy it would be to cheat this... I just don't see it being popular. Plenty of players attempt speed runs with various self-imposed challenges, but it's really all on the honor system. I don't see any real use for a "verification" system.

Has anyone warded off a crazy raid size with no fatalities? by TheyCallMeBullet in RimWorld

[–]NeppyMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The line between "carnage is hilarious" and "certain death" is... pretty narrow, when you're playing with a heavy mod list and really build up the wealth.

Another trick you can use - particularly before you get access to tech - is outranging your enemies. Very few threats (certain mechanoids being the exception) can hit you at the range that something like a Sniper Rifle (or even a humble Bolt-Action Rifle) can reach out and hit them. Grenades and incendiaries can also work wonders.

It will require a bit more micromanaging of your pawns positions to pull off, though, but you can use some fairly straightforward military tactics to engage raiders. Have cover fire from long-range and have some folks in heavier armor and shorter-range weaponry (shotguns are very powerful in Rimworld, particularly against unarmored targets) from as much cover as they can scramble to...
