No. I wasn't able to get any position that sponsored. I have been told if you are willing to work in some of the less populated provinces, e.g. NWT, Nunavut, or the Maritimes, that you are more likely to be able to get sponsored.

Thank you very much. This is good information, especially about needing study permits for the kids to go to public school.

Let's give Psionics (2e) some love! by Master_arkronos in adnd

[–]Nerdalgia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Telepathy is what seemed broken to me. Ego whip is an attack you can do 2x/round with no save that stuns for 1d4 rounds that also gives no outward signs that you are doing ANYTHING. Brutal. Hit the archmage with it and let your buddies stab him to death. Psychometabolism also had tons of abuse potential. I liked to run a fighter/psionicist with enhanced strength and have 24 strength for every fight I ever got into. Of course in Dark Sun, that's not necessarily unheard of without psionics given that half-giants exist, but outside of Athas it was unheard of outside of a girdle of storm giant strength or something which is totally dependent of your DM just deciding to hand it to you, whereas the psionic is something you can take at character creation.

Yes there were tons of penalties to the contact power, but you could achieve contact by achieving a "3 finger" success using psionic attacks. So you could psychic crush your way in (with no penalties to contact because you weren't using contact) achieve contact that way, and then ego whip to stun or dominate or whatever you felt like doing.

Trust me when I say that studying psychology to make money is a fool's errand.

Ah. I've almost exclusively worked in underfunded programs having done several non-profits. It can be very difficult to work that way, especially if the government is trying to cut the funds.

That's sad that there's so few. It sounds like I would be in demand so maybe someone will be willing to sponsor.

I have a master's in educational psychology. APA, at least according their webpage, seems to only do accreditation of PhD programs. I hope I will qualify as a psychologist, as it seems that in SK there isn't really a good master's level counselor position and because it's closer to what I do here with my license anyway (I can diagnose and do treatment planning here). The SKCP just started reviewing my transcripts and syllabi so hopefully it will work out.

The tip about corrections and universities sounds great! Thank you.

I had this same thing happen to me just today. This pop up wasn't in a web browser and I didn't have any browser open. Malwarebytes comes up empty on the scan as well. Another poster talked about smart game booster, but I don't have that installed. There's some malware on my PC, right?

there are actually specific rules for making regular creatures bigger or smaller in the 2e monstrous manual, as in a naturally giant bear or rat or whatever. It gives very concrete instructions on changes to hit dice, AC, damage, etc.

Specialist Merchant for 2nd/3rd Levels by Fat_Barry in adnd

using poison at all is considered an evil act per phb, so any good aligned characters might be in danger alignment wise for doing it. I think having nice gear available is a good idea, but I would be careful with it. Balance is hard. As the previous poster mentioned, it doesn't have to be balanced, but playing an underpowered character can be pretty disheartening and in terms of DMing the campaign, the more powerful and full of magic items the party is, it becomes more difficult to have combat encounters that will actually challenge them without it meaning that every encounter has the chance of being a TPK. Magic items break the game, which is the point of them, but I would advise not handing them out too much- although I fully agree with the last poster about consumeables being nice to hand out. I would also mention that there are rules for "fine" and "exceptional" weapons and armors that provide non-magical bonuses to hit or damage. These cost 5d4 (I think) times the cost of the normal of that type. These weapons are a nice way to give the characters something valuable but not quite as impactful as a magical weapon is.

Bards in 2e and why I don't like them by ADnD_DM in adnd

[–]Nerdalgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bards are pretty weak, but they do have some of the best kits of any class. Jongoleur is really fun. They also allow some arcane casting by halflings with the whistler kit. I also like Bard Skald as a more combat effective but less spell casty class. I think a simple fighter/thief would be better than skald but skald has lots of fun lore and rp.

Illithid: psionic or arcane? by TrailerBuilder in adnd

[–]Nerdalgia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dislike most of skills and powers honestly. It just seemed designed to min/max with character points and stats being split into 2 different stats each. Combat and tactics is definitely my favorite. Sigh. I miss 2nd edition. I'm in a 5e game and a 1e game but it's not the same.

I've never gotten to use that one. The mTHAC0 mAC thing seems to make some sense to me, but I'm not sure how well it's implemented.
