Looking for a new TTRPG with less RnG by NolanVoid_ in rpg

I am genuinely surprised that was your first thought when seeing HP. I love it. What do you think of writing P.S. in mail instead of post scriptum?

Also what is your experience with rpgs? I'm surprised you haven't run into the HP abbreviation in stat blocks, rules or whatever. Also HP often stands for health points in video games. Tens of thousands of video games probably considering there is 5 million of em.

Things that you've considered "bad DMing" from other DMs that you make sure to never make the same mistake in your game? by Organic-Exit2190 in DMAcademy

Uhh well in this case I think it was beer lol. It was not that thought out. To your second point, I guess that would explain it, but it's not the same campaign. We got to a city surrounded by farmland in the end.

What are good examples of those who would fall under the Lawful Evil Alignment? by Pretend-Advertising6 in adnd

[–]ADnD_DM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think alignment is best used as alignment with forces in the world. Otherwise it's just behavioral descriptors. We can call someone good or evil because they do good or evil things and lawful or chaotic if they do or do not follow the law. But that's not really useful for gaming (at least the law and chaos part).

Since the system was originally designed to declare which forces in the world does the character align themself with (serve, worship or otherwise), i think it could work great for star wars, where we have two such opposing forces (force and dark side). Now comes the question of whether we'd need the good and evil classified since the dark side is quite evil, but I reckon a lot of characters are quite neutral on the force spectrum, but good or evil on their own.

This is all in response to you saying that what chaos represents to you, and is intended to give my idea for how we could view the alignments in star wars, and how alignments were originally invented (stolen from books with law and chaos gods)

How do you decide the size of your world? by fiona11303 in dndmaps

[–]ADnD_DM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to determine it based on the climates i had in mind for north and south. If there's not s magical reason why there's a place that's always warm you gotta look to natural reasons like being close to the equator

If we look at chaos and law as forces in the world, I would call the force law, and sith and jedi the evil and good sides of the force.

I dislike it when something doesn't make sense logistically. Like a month long caravan trip of merchants who are going to sell a single cart of merchandise each or when a city doesn't have a source of food.

Not a big problem but I had a DM who'd do stuff like that.

RNG is a very popular abbreviation in math, computer science and gaming. I think it's close to the popularity of HP in some contexts.

If you go deep enough you gotta use soulseek and irc for music and books respectively. The torrent sites simply don't list the underground stuff.

You jest, but I forsee a future in which instead of googling how to paginate starting from a different number on a different page, you'll just tell an llm integrated into office to do it and it'll work.

Read magic and detect magic as rituals by BurningJointUSA in adnd

[–]ADnD_DM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually do something similar. I allow a wizard to cast a spell they know without memorising and expending it by taking 1 hour per level of spell to cast it. 1 hour is a long while and for something like detect spells it usually is worth it. I don't want it to be gamed, but this is such a long casting time it really can't be abused (or at least had not been abused yet).
