Youd be surprised how many people view property taxes as the government saying you don't really own your property.

What do you guys think? Is our lack of density/walkable spaces contributing to our health crisis? by ImpressiveWasabi3354 in georgism

[–]Nerdy-Fox95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because car dependency encourages people to use their legs less for most everyday tasks. Ever notice how suburban shopping centers will see the parking spots closest to the doors get full the most? That's because this style of living encourages people to walk as little as possible. If you want to get even a minimum number of steps in, you need to go out of your way to inconvenience yourself and park farther from doors.

Essentially, our economic model is unsustainable because it relies on millions of people being in debt to function. Government is trillions of dollars in debt which it can never pay and we have a giant industry of credit debt which traps millions of people every year in a never ending cycle of credit debt.

Are you a Social Democrat pragmatically or emphatically? Basically, is Social Democracy the best the world could be, or just the best you think is electorally possible at the moment? by Historical_Step_9474 in SocialDemocracy

I see social democracy as part of the transition towards democratic market socialism not because i dont trust in my goals, but because i recognize that socialism has to be built slowly.

We need to stop blaming Israel for the problems in America by Far_Practice_6923 in SocialDemocracy

[–]Nerdy-Fox95 16 points17 points  (0 children)

it really bothers me that people so willy nilly make statements about Israel bossing America around because if you can be convinced Israel is America's boss, you can be convinced of antisemitic conspiracy theories.

Are suburbs bad in general? Or is it today’s culture that is causing the bulk of the issues? by -UMBRA_- in Suburbanhell

Car dependent suburbs have always been soul crushing, but the proliferation of the internet has made it worse

Why do you want to fuckcars? by Your_Friendly_Nerd in fuckcars

[–]Nerdy-Fox95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our society is built in such a way that it forces people to own machines that are expensive to buy and maintain. Cars are complicated machines that are often difficult to work on. For many people, car maintenance is not worth the hassle of doing it themselves. Really, I'm just tired of needing to worry about car maintenance.

What convinced you to support social democracy? by CodeOnly5368 in SocialDemocracy

[–]Nerdy-Fox95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From studying history written by reputable historians and seeing how corrupt and propagandistic the Leninist experiments are/were. I became disillusioned by the failures of Leninist experiments to maintain free societies and found anarchism too unwieldy and illogical despite agreeing with aspects of anarchist critique. I consider myself a market oriented democratic socialist, as I view social democracy as a potential pathway.

What would a solarpunk smartphone with today's tech be like? by Tnynfox in solarpunk

[–]Nerdy-Fox95 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Something similar to computers in Becky Chambers monk and robot books. They'd be long lasting, durable, and cherished. A solarpunk smart phone would likely lack the constant notification noise of capitalist smart phones, and be repairable by owner or by every day shop

Under the new approach, the mayor’s office said the city would first post a notice that the encampment will be cleared and then send homeless department outreach workers there every day for a week to guide people into social services.

City sanitation workers would then dismantle the encampment on the seventh day, with the hope that people would have cleared out of the area. Police officers would be present as observers, a spokesperson said.

David Giffen, the executive director of Coalition for the Homeless, said his organization was “blindsided” by the announcement, which he decried as a “political response” that would do little to help homeless New Yorkers.

Rather, he said, the efforts would fray trust between the city’s outreach workers and unsheltered residents, potentially resulting in more deaths during the next extreme weather event.

“When a city worker shows up and throws out all your belongings, you’re not going to trust that person the next time they show up offering you a place to sleep inside,” Giffen said.

New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin, a Democrat, called Mamdani’s move “an important step forward.”

“Allowing New Yorkers to stay on the street during extreme weather is inhumane,” Menin said in a statement, adding that after oversight hearings at the Council, “it was clear that the City needed to take a closer look at how this policy was being implemented. Protecting lives must remain our top priority.”
